I'm interested in the Samsung 55 8000 but am also looking at Sony. I can't figure out the models so damm confusing. Is XBR kaput? I'm interested primarily in 2D but also want 3D. What models?? 900? 909???

Tried the Sony Style store, they were clueless, as well as BestBuy.

Sony 3D LED TVs:

XBR-LX900 series
XBR-HX909 series (3D Ready, needs extra equipment* for 3D).
KDL-40HX800 series (3D Ready, needs extra equipment* for 3D).
KDL-NX810 series (needs extra equipment* for 3D).

*glasses ($150 a pair ) and separate emitter to sync the glasses to the TV ($50)

Did you try the Sony website? It's pretty darn self-explanatory if you ask me. As for your question about the XBR, Sony has designated two models as "XBR" models including the FABULOUS XBR-HX909, but it's 3D, not 2D.

And he didn't say he only wanted 2D-only TV recommendations. In fact, he said, "I'm interested primarily in 2D but also want 3D." Anyway, any 3D TV will have 2D, as you, and many others, already know.

Ok, looking now, there's an LX, HX, NX, EX series all in the 52" to 60" catagory.

4 60" ones
4 55" ones
3 52" ones

With a sprinkling of XBR models.

So which is considered the best quality line? Why can't it be simple like samsung?

HX909 is Sony's TOPmodel http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1259856

Thanks for the info. I live in the Atlanta area, no one carrys the HX909 in stock, like Best Buy, HH Gregg, Fry's etc, only the Sony Style store. Everyone carries the Samsung UN55C8000 though. So I really cant do a visual comparsion.

Next question is, how does everyone feel about ordering over the internet? What would be a reasonable discount? I've seen all kinds of crazy prices.

I'm hoping to get a good deal, everyone says LED tv prices will be dropping this holiday season.

You can order over the internet but what happens if your set has clouding or flashlighting or some other issue? If there is a problem then you have to ship it back at your expense ($200-250). That's if they even allow you to ship it back. They may tell you to call the manufacturer.

Depends from whom you order. I've never had a problem returning things to "my favorite very large on-line retailer." I've also never had to pay for return shipping or a restocking fee.

I think if you order from Amazon then they pay return shipping. As far as I know all the other charge. In fact, we have had this conversation on the board with forum sponsors and they all require you to pay. They don't like to admit that.

Hmmm, didn't know that. I was referring to the one you mentioned.

Jim, with the way the nutjobs here return TVs can you imagine any of our sponsors staying in business? They know better which is why the won't openly admit they won't pay for return shipping.

As you can see here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...16&postcount=3 (17 sony models compared) the HX700 is a CCFL LCd (LED LCd's are more expensive) - it has 200Hz while more expensive models have 200Hz Pro - contrast ratio is Standard, more expensive models have a contrast ratio Over 1.000.000:1 (this is a post from the HX701 owners calibration thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1233487 ).

I was wondering if anyone has had a chance to comapare the Sony HX909 side by side with a UN55C8000? I have to go to a Sony Style store & BestBuy for the Samsung. Both look great.

Not so much concerned about 3D, more concerned about 2d performance.
