Are Powerlite, Home Cinema, and Pro Cinema the Same???

Not exactly the same, of course, but it seems like the Powerlite and Home Cinema lines share manuals, while the Home Cinema and Pro Cinema lines share chases!

What's the about? Reducing costs? Why not just paint the HC black like the PC; seems more logical for "darkrooms."

Pro (compared to HC) offer additional warranty, different color, and at least in 8700 vs 9700, 2 mode anamorphic lens setting, and also a free ceiling mount, and only offer through installer...

Annoyedbuyer,

I believe you hold some type of record for the total number of posts to threads started ratio. I mean no offense by this at all, but many of these questions have readily available answers either here already or on various other sites. I say this because with some simple searching you can probably find answers quicker than you will here.

Hi, SB,

I hear that all the time, about using search engines. But they just keep throwing up garbage! Like I was asking about portable screens. Had to go dig dig dig AVS for...two mildly relevant posts.

Ultimately, I suppose all newbie questions are buried somewhere in the archives. But how many pages of results is one supposed to wade through, sifting and sniffin' -- before one just figures, hey, lemme just ask!

It's the same thing when you show up at the hospital or some such place...you can spend your time looking for every posted sign before approaching someone, or you can just approach someone.

Just a personal thing -- don't mind me. =) I'm the type who goes into a restaurant and asks the waiter instead of scanning the menu first! (Oddly enough, however, I do read manuals first before playing with gadgets....)

The Home versions are all white, and geared towards internet type sales (discounted). The Pros are internally the same things, but have a few unlocked features, such as ISF memories, an extra year on the warranty, and include a mount. The Pros are sold at brick and mortar type dealers...

This has been my experience as well. In fact, I sometimes have read about some problem, or a trick, etc. that I do not need at the time. Perhaps a week or a month later my situation changes and I decide to look for the post. I can practically picture the post and comments so I think it should be easy to find it again. And yet, somehow the search engine gives me dozens of unrelated posts. I look over my search words and realize that some of the words I used are too common or can have multiple meanings, so I try a different search. Eventually I get desperate and end up trying long search strings with logical operators and still have to sort through a huge number of unrelated posts.

I do not know what it is, but the search engine seems absolutely possessed at times. However, some of it may not be the problem of the search engine. The AVS forum is the kind of place where certain acronyms, terms, or adjectives come up with incredible regularity. I once remember looking for a post that I thought had a very specific title. Don't remember now exactly what it was, but it had a bunch of common terms like " Very unusual receiver sound problem occurs when switching from component to HDMI". I went back several months later and tried to find the post. I think that just about every post on the forum came up in the search.

Wow, Jason, unlocked features??? Hmm, I wonder if some "gear-heads" (I use the term affectionately) know how to hack 'em, pry them open! You know, high-end projectors might take off if there's the opportunity to hack things, mod things, like what happened with muscle cars, gaming rigs, and even software....

Tsaka, THANK YOU!!! I AM SO GLAD SOMEONE FINALLY UNDERSTANDS!!!! And believe it or not, I work in SEO!!! No, really!! I work for an SEO firm!!! (No names, please, LOL!) And I can't for the life of me understand why search engines are so bad!! Then again, of course, I do believe that SEO companies ruin it by gaming the system, despite Google's best efforts (and really, Google is so easily manipulable by internet marketers -- but not me, a simple ol' web surfer who's looking for stuff!!)....

Seriously, I'm glad you explained things to me. I was really starting to feel stupid, like someone who can't program a VCR!

I suspect it could be done if someone had an understanding of the projectors software...though not sure any of them are worthwhile for the effort it would take.

Do NOT paint the Casing. Your Warranty will be voided.

As for the posting of questions for answers that are there for the searching....much depends upon just how proficient one is at using search criteria. Especially using AVS Google.

But the reality is that NOOBs are gonna be both apt to want a short-cut to answers, and anxious to get things going. It only get obnoxious when ridiculously simple...common sense answers are posted and still, inane questions are posed.

Like:
  • What will happen if I hang the PJ upside down?
  • Can I watch regular TV on a PJ or just Movies?
  • Do you / can you just hook up your Cable to the PJ?

Or my Favorite.....
  • Has anyone tried projecting directly onto a wall?

Well.....

Ya know we seasoned members must bear the weight of such circumstances if we are to make the new Member people feel welcome. The initial response a new member/poster gets can set the stage for a good or bad attitude. But I've seen many "Old Timers" flee the Forum because they simply had to quit repeating themselves or risk going into Berserker Mode with every person who asks a question they just got done answering 3-4 posts back.. Comprehensive Stickies help...but they too are often overlooked and must be pointed out. It's a simple fact of Forum Life that even new members with Doctorate Degrees can seem dumbr' than Owl Poop on a Cold Forest Floor to those of us who indulge in the Forums daily.

Just kick that Poop to the side and give 'em what they ask for and eventually......they'll kick back.
