RCA to 3.5mm Audio Quality

I am planning on getting a new shelf stereo system, and both of the two I have narrowed it down to only have a 3.5mm input and no RCA input. I thought this was kind of strange. If I use an RCA to 3.5mm cable to connect a DVD player or an Xbox 360 to the stereo will I experience any loss of sound quality?

I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section

a well made shielded audio cable with stereo 3.5mm plug on one end and standard RCA male connectors (to connect to the external sources) will work just fine.
