Thanks Jim and Pete. The VTF-3 HO had a two position EQ switch labeled:

Position 1 = 16Hz/1 Port Open or with Turbo
position 2 = 22Hz/2 Ports Open with No Turbo

So the 15H two position switch would be:
EQ1= 16Hz/1 Port Open or Sealed
EQ2 = 22Hz/2 Ports, 1 Port or Sealed

Thanks Jim that's what I thought, but since the amp's toggle switch is labeled EQ1 & EQ2 instead of 22Hz & 16Hz like on the HO, I just wanted to verify it.

I'm sitting here reading threads and watching Mann's Public Enemies, some of the gun shots are so "chesty". I hardly believe I have another 15H enroute.

You have another one on the way because you are a glutton for punishment. I'm trying to decide wether to get another 15H(one is really more than enough in my 13x24 sealed theater) or the new Marantz AV7005 pre/pro that I've been eying for the past few months. Decisions, decisions.

Tough call. The Pro sounds good, I wasn't as impressed with the amp.
If you can decode everything now i'd be tempted to add the sub.
However, i'd love to play with the aud setup even though it's not the latest and greatest version.
Decisions are a bit*h.

That's what's holding back. The multEQ was the latest when they started developing it, but by the time the AV7005 hit the streets it wasn't the latest MultEQ anymore. I'd hate to buy it and then a month later a new pro is out with the latest MultEQ in the same price range.

Being able to EQ two subs is what makes me curious.
My Pio 9040 does no sub EQ. I use my SMS-1 for that.

You can never escape the market. I would be surprised if they didn't come out with one with the XT32 but not likely at that price point.

Same here using the SMS-1 for the sub. true fat chance of XT32 in that price range, but as soon as I pull the trigger on the AV7005 with XT then XT32 will be offered in that range.

Hey where do you have your 15H and where will your second one go? I definitely have room for two so maybe I'll just go with another one after-all.

One port EQ2.

I have it nearfield atm, which actually is quite flat (with no EQ) but drops large at 22hz. (very little room gain) Front corner placement it was peaky but I had good db lvls at ~16hz up to my crossover. I wasn't able to get both with the one sub.
I'm expecting to place one front corner and the 2nd nearfield when it arrives.
I'll see what the SMS-1 says and work from there.
I have 4500 cu ft total. I have an opening to a bar and workout area off one corner of my listening area.

Even though the SMS-1 only goes to 15Hz(which I'm flat to) I've also checked with the RS meter and correction values from HTS and I'm flat to just under 11Hz with 1 port, EQ1, Q=0.7. My 2 ports, EQ2, Q=0.7 is flat to about 16Hz and things are pretty amazing.

It easily destroys the HSU 3.3 I had, along with the MFW's I have, and so far the IXL 18.2.2 (I ran those same scenes with it afterwards) that I currently use. I ran it in 2 ported mode, eq 2 q5. I am quite sure that it is not the greatest thing out there, but I really, really was taken aback. I was very surprised, I swear my eyebrows were flapping. I can't imagine some of you running any sub or system for that matter at or near reference. And with anything that comes out of my mouth, it is IMHO. So far I am a happy camper and I wish everyone a Happy Bass Night. Regards.

I dont doubt that a bit. A 12" driver is seriously outclassed by a 15"... well considering they're both performance drivers in their own league. Built to many subs to know different (to know what one knows respectfully). I was quit excited to see HSU take on a 15". Yeah they got to watch the size enclosure so they can handle shipping, but EQ has it's place as do with all other sub offerings. Hat's off to HSU (Peter) for taking on a 15" in the vented format.

I agree - The GP measurements really is one of the only proper ways to to compare subs but those #'s will be up or down quite a bit at any freq measured room to room. 5-6db's up vs another subs GP measurements could be much more or much less in any room. It does give you a good idea though of a subs capabilities.

With both 1 port and both ports open and Q @ 0.3, I can get it pretty flat from 15-120hz on my SMS-1 before it drops a bit and my room is about the same size as yours(4600cu.ft.). The HT side has a 8ft half wall on one side and the other 9ft is open to the rest of the basement. If I can get flat down to 15hz in a 4600cu.ft. room that tells you how this sub can perform when it's not in a parking lot. And that's after having to bring it down -10.5db's between 15-20hz cuz of a big low end boost. I do use it in a Home Theater - not a Parking Lot Theater and that's how I would show it off.. not on my driveway

Good to see this thread back to normal though

I personally would rather have (2) HSU's than a single Ultra. Keep in mind, this is only my opinion in regards to the $2K budget. If my budget was $3400 I would go with dual Ultras. If my gudget was $4,500 I would go with dual Submersives HP's. I think you see the trend here.

The only thing I didn't like about the HSU is it does not offer XLR inputs. Not a big deal, but my cable lengths extend past 20 feet. Good luck to the OP.

I think that pretty much sums it up. Oh by the way I have owned 12 SVS subs and they are the mark to shoot for imo. 15" driver is a well executeted effort. Hey the sub is worth the $800 imo and no doubt a dam good sub.

For me, that would be an easy choice since you already have an SMS-1. The second sub gets my vote. I think you'd notice more of a change than going with the Marantz (a brand I happen to really like).

*No bias here. I have a Pioneer SC-27 with external amps and an Ultra.

This thread amazes me. I have an HSU VtF3 MK2 ( 7 yrs. now)and I am upgrading to a VTF-15 soon because I moved into a bigger place and need tgo fill a little more volume, and I don't want to spend more than $1,000. delivered.

The HSU has been an amazing product for the price point and performance backed by a company with world class customer service. It exceeds my expectation (don't need specs), for what I am willing to pay. If I wanted more performance, I would gladly pay more, but I am very pleased.
