After that set to your preference.

Exactly! Just to clarify, the idea is to have the subwoofer in it's flattest and most extended mode so Audyssey will be equalizing for the room modes. Once Audyssey has corrected for the room response, setting the subwoofer to other modes will still have flat in-room response.

I wondered if you have much experience with xt32? I don't myself, but it appears they have somewhat fixed this boosting down low. notnyt has some comparisons here and he liked how the xt boosted his sealed subs down low, and that the newer 32 didn't boost down low as much.

No, I have not used Audyssey myself. Glad to hear that they fixed that issue. No harm doing it the way I described. It is still equally effective even if Audyssey has fixed that bug.

Just to verify, when you say to have the sub in it's flattest and most extended mode you mean 1 port plugged (the port closest to a wall or object, in my case it will be in the front left corner of my room bumped against a chair facing out) EQ1 and Q.=7 at 9 O'clock or less? I have a Yamaha V-667 and it runs YPAO, I'm not sure if it really varies from Auddesy or is just an equivelant. My 15H will be here tomorrow!

That is correct. I have not used a Yamaha, but even if YPAO does not try to boost the low bass, the suggested method works equally well.

Enjoy it! Have fun fine tuning the sub.

dr-hsu/fellow dual H15s owners,
it would really be nice to have a complete and detailed procedure for how to integrate two H15s (or any other HSU subs) into a room with Audyssey equalization. Here is what I understand so far (and what I do not):
1) Place sub at listening position. What setting should the sub have for this first step? Both ports plugged? Eq=1?
2) While playing (which cut from the included CD), take measurements with calibrated microphone in different portions of the room.
3) Place subwoofer in room location where response is the smoothest
4) Place second sbwoofer next to the first one? Or is it recommended to place second sub in the opposite side of the room? When do we test the impact of switching the phase...before or after Audyssey?
5) Now you are ready for Audyssey calibration. Set both subs to Eq=1 Q=0.7, phase =0, volume at 75 db each (using Audyssey microphone). Which ports to be opened if the two subs are next to each other?
6) Save Audyssey file and then tweak away? Is the tweaking done based on listening tests alone? or is it best to use the calibrated microphone in the listening position and use a frequency analyzer to measure the affect of the changes?
Thanks in advance

1) Place sub at listening position. What setting should the sub have for this first step? Both ports plugged? Eq=1? (one port open, EQ1, Q=0.7)
2) While playing (which cut from the included CD), take measurements with calibrated microphone in different portions of the room. (Don't remember specific tracks, but play from 16 Hz up to 100 Hz)
3) Place subwoofer in room location where response is the smoothest.No. Place them where the output is highest. If there is no location where the whole response is highest, choose one where the response is highest in the low bass, and no big dip)
4) Place second sbwoofer next to the first one? Or is it recommended to place second sub in the opposite side of the room? When do we test the impact of switching the phase...before or after Audyssey? Place both subs in the optimal location.
5) Now you are ready for Audyssey calibration. Set both subs to Eq=1 Q=0.7, phase =0, volume at 75 db each (using Audyssey microphone). Which ports to be opened if the two subs are next to each other? Does not matter.
6) Save Audyssey file and then tweak away? Is the tweaking done based on listening tests alone? or is it best to use the calibrated microphone in the listening position and use a frequency analyzer to measure the affect of the changes? You can just use your ear for the tweaking. Response should be flattest as is, but not in terms of headroom, nor listener preference.
Thanks in advance

Answers in Red above.

You need to be approved by a moderator. The Dr. should be able to do it.

Dr Hsu

I am planning on purchasing a VTF-15H and a pair of black HB-1 MK2's.
When will the HB-1 MK2's be available?

Well my baby(VTF-15H) has arrived! Using a setting of one port open, EQ2, Q=0.3(Thx again Dr Hsu) and the volume set at 9:00 o'clock this baby is smoking . At some point I will experiment so more, but for right now I going to just enjoy it!

I get home from work this morning at about 5 and am sitting at my laptop with the 15H in my cart. I hear the immortal words of Arnold in T3: "It is time." And thus, the order was placed.

In keeping with their excellent customer service, HSU sends me the ship notification this afternoon telling me Thursday will be the day my neighbors start to hate me even more than they did (I had an STF-2).

I had the opposite affect they wanted to know how much it cost so I sent them a link.

Maybe someone can help me out, I finally ordered a VTF-15h, waited for it to come off backorder, waited for it to get delivered, and now I am not happy with it. Just not what I thought it would be. I must be doing something wrong. Here are my specs on my room and speakers.

Onyko TX-SR707
Fronts: PSB B6
Center: PSB C5
Rears and surrounds: PSB in-walls

I have tried the sub in both front corners of the room and every tuning option available.

Room is 18' x 29' x 8', the tv is on one of the 18' walls.

I ran Audyssey with 1 port open, EQ1 and Q=0.7 and gain at 9'oclock.

After Audyssey runs and I play music and movies, there is almost no bass. Audyssey sets my crossovers at 40hz, so I moved them up to 80hz. I have tried increasing the level cal on the Onkyo from -4.0 to 0, and increasing the volume on the sub. Both do make it louder, but I just can't get it to sound good. Not what I would expect for $1k. Everyone seems to love these, so I know I am just doing something wrong or my room placement is just horrible.

The bass will get deep, but when it hits it doesn't sound great. I can't think of a good word for it, the wife said it sounds loose. I described it as a whomp sound. I know, that is horrible.

Does anyone have any ideas on placement or setup?
