The Official HSU VTF-15H Thread - Page 110

Well, as my luck would have it, my wife now wants a longer sofa... There is now an end of a couch ~7 inches in front of my sub. Will this seriously impact my sound?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

Do you mean there is a 7" gap between the front of the sub and the sofa? That would be plenty of room for the sub. Not a problem.

Exactly what I meant!

Thanks Dr Hsu and happy holidays!!!

Curious question: Does HSU research run specials on this Sub? I am almost already ready to pull the trigger. However, dragging my foot waiting for $50 off. Hope my wait doesn't end up as a mirage.

Merry Christmas

I've never seen this model go on sale. More surprising to me is that the price hasn't gone up since it was introduced. Shipping went up $10 , but I can't fault HSU for passing along an increased cost.

They do have a "B-stock" page, listed about 3/4 down on the FAQ page, but I've never seen an VTF15 there...and there's not usually much there at all. AFAIK, it's what they do with returns from their 30 day in home trial offer...and those items don't offer returns or an in-home trial. Really, there's hardly ever anything there, and when something does pop up.... 10 to 15% off ... it's not there long.

I'd say just get it if you want it. That sub wouldn't be less capable even ... not on sale.smile.gif

Thanks. This is exactly what I wanted to know.

Glad you noticed that we have so far kept the price! Costs have been going up and up and we are trying hard not to raise the selling price. Hence it's effectively on sale! Thanks to all of you buying many of these, we could so far hold onto lower margins and making it up by volume.

Merry Christmas everyone! Thanks for your great support.
Don't raise it yet! I'm trying to get one around Jan or Feb timeline. I just need to sell my VTF3 MK4 somehow.

Merry Christmas to you too Dr. Hsu, to your family, all the good people at Hsu Research and the extended family of Hsu owners who post on this thread, the ULS-15 thread and the owners thread, that have not only helped me in my decision to purchase a great sub, but also to get the most out of it.

Merry Christmas Dr. Hsu.

I placed an order yesterday morning. I need help to get speaker cables. The woofer will be connected to Denon 3808ci. I see that it has only pre-outs for SW. I am guessing, I need these cables?

1RCA to 2RCA - link
2RCA to 2RCA - link

Any help is appreciated.
All you need is the appropriate length RCA cable. It hooks to the LFE/subwoofer output on your AVR and the RCA input on the sub.
I agree on the length. Does the Y cable make sense? I can always get 12' or more depending on my needs. Thanks in advance.
You can use a Y cable if you wish, but is not necessary. I think some people have used both RCA inputs on the sub using the Y cable to get the sub to turn on whe.n using the standby mode. I just leave mine to "on" all the time. It doesn't use any more power leaving it on.
Excellent. Thank you very much for the suggestion.

Dr_Hsu I wanted to personally thank you for the wonderful customer service you provided to my wife Megan. She surprised me with a VTF 15 on Christmas Day! She said you were very nice and shipped the sub immediately so that I would have it in time for Christmas. I still can't believe she did that for me! It sounds awesome!

Merry Christmas and happy new year!

Ok 1 port out, 10 o clock volume, eq1, 70 hz crossover, what q control? It shipped at 0.3, no idea what it does!

I have Bowers & Wilkins CM8s for the fronts. Should I crossover the fronts at 40 or 80? I have it set at 60. I feel like I over spent for these front speakers with this sub. I prolly could have gone with some lower priced fronts huh?

Actually it prolly doesn't matter cause I can't tell a damn bit of difference. But I lovvvvvvve this sub. smile.gif

I think I like the one port open setting. Sounds deeper to me.

I hear they are great speakers. Can't bring myself to spend that much on fronts but the sub will justify it's purchase. 80 is the generally accepted crossover but play around with it to see what sounds good to you.

Got my 15h! Almost finished rebuilding after Sandy smile.gif

Got some tuning questions...

My room is 12.5'x26'. One door sized opening at far end.

Thinking of using one port open, EQ1. Usually I have moderate listening levels. Thinking of using Q=.5.

I use the system for 95% movies/gaming, 5% music.

Do my settings seem right for my room and usage?

A little tighter bass with Q 0.3.

One port open definitely goes lower. If you get enough headroom with one port open, do that.

Can you post a room layout? TV on 12.5 ft wall or 26 ft wall? 95% of movies do not need the deeper extension. Better off with the two ports open mode for most movies.

I get higher spl's with 2 ports open, eq2, and q7 than I do with 1 port open and eq1. Must be my room. I've got the sub directly under the peak of a cathedral ceiling.

No, it's how you have the sub set up. You have it in max output mode.

That makes sense - two ports open, EQ2 is max output mode, so you should get the highest SPL.
I know SPL means sound pressure level but what does that mean? Just higher sound? Like louder volume?
