Wasn't Tom Hanks the guest that they hit with the meteor on the second episode of TTS? It seems Hanks is very willing to return to his roots as a comedy actor after all these years of serious roles.

I still find that kind of hard to believe.

I didn't see the performance, but if Cornell was a bit off key and his voice was cracking, that wouldn't be unusual for him live. Practically everytime I've seen him on TV live, it was like that (and I'm a huge fan of Soundgarden, too - I'm not "hatin", before anyone gets up in arms over me saying that. I never said I've seen them everytime they've ever appeared on TV, nor have I ever seen them in concert).

Sounds like you're talking more about the band as a whole, though. I think I remember them being not quite as tight as they are in the studio when I saw them years ago sometimes on TV.

I saw the second half of their performance last night. Actually, Cornell's vocal was pretty good. Much better than other live performances I've seen. But he was also playing guitar - possibly forcing him to concentrate more on both playing and singing.

Regarding the band as a whole - I would agree they did not sound very tight (independent of the quality of the song they chose to play).

Yeah - I have seen him on TV once or twice where his voice was fine. He's kind of hit or miss. Maybe if it's stressed from performing or something, because when you see them, it's usually during a tour.

Maybe last night's performance is online now. I'm curious to see it.

‘Conan’ Second Night Averages 2.8 Million Viewers, 1.6 Adults 18-49 Rating

Tuesday night’s episode of TBS’s Conan had another strong performance with young viewers, delivering 1,415,000 adults 18-34 and 2,126,000 adults 18-49. Conan was watched by 2,815,000 viewers overall. The median age for Conan is tracking around 30.

That adults 18-49 viewership works out to be a 1.6 adults 18-49 rating, down 36% from his premiere’s 2.5 rating. The 2.8 million average viewership was down 33% from the premiere’s 4.2 million.

In Late-Night Metered Markets Tuesday night:

In Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, household results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 2.5/7; CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” 3.0/8; and ABC’s combo of “Nightline,” 3.2/8; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 1.7/6.

In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.9/4; “Late Show,” 0.8/4; “Nightline,” 1.0/4; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 0.5/3. At 12:35 a.m., “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (1.2/4 in metered-market households) trailed CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (1.5/6). Letterman beats Leno again. Team Coco is killing Leno.

To me, I immediately thought they didn't do an effective sound-level check prior to the show. The microphone for vocals seemed lower than the musical instruments (both nights), which made it difficult to hear the lyrics.

Yeah, regarding Soundgarden, the mix was really bad. Guitar was overpowering the vocals big time. I pressed 30 second skip a few times during that performance. It's no wonder they don't perform on TV very often.

No. Maybe they should have stayed retired. LOL

There was an obvious video edit tonight when they went from talking about the Conan Blimp to the Ted Turner segment.

Yeah, when Andy was talking about driving the blimp and Conan said something about him being in a wheel chair and then he went into an explanation. It was cut off.

And what about that Asian chick? What a horrible guest to have on the show the first week.

Not exactly bringing out the big guns is he? For a premier week that only requires four days of bookings it's very weak. Budget cuts, drop in prestige by going to TBS or Conan just intentionally choosing people he likes I don't know, but it makes for a weak lineup considering how many talk shows are on the air now every night.

Hard to top the fire that he exhibited during his final NBC week but they could have made an effort with a better lineup.

Thought the guests were kinda mehhhh on the third night. I did enjoy Yi's song though. She's definitely an acquired taste. Hamm is a handsome fella, but sometimes doesnt interview very well. But I do think he qualifies as a "big" guest. Not quite Hanks, but still a good get. Will Forte as Ted Turner was my high point for the night on an otherwise OK show. Hey they cant all be gems.

As others have pointed out, there was some really obvious and poor editing in the show. I actually wanted to hear Andy's blimp tidbit.

Agree that this was just an alright show. I think there were a couple instances of editing last night that were too obvious to miss. I believe they still need time to find that groove, after all 9-10 months was a long time to be off. I'm certain it will get better.

It must be Conan himself. His bookings on Late Night and The Tonight Show were regularly terrible. Conan undoubtedly gets the worst guests of everyone in late night.

But Jon Hamm, Tom Hanks, Seth Rogan, and Lea Michelle are all good celebrity bookings. It's a bad time to launch a talk show, since there aren't many big budget movies around Christmas time. And although it would be nice to book the star of television's fall hit, unfortunately there haven't been any this season so there's no one to book. But, even still, this is par for Conan.

Why Julie Bowen is playing second fiddle tomorrow night to Micheal Cera is beyond me.

If you think this week was bad, just wait until next week.

^^^ And the week after that, and the one after that, and... it's only then, when Conan's guests are the indie film star from Shrilanka and the third supporting actor guy from "Raising Hope," that the show's true ratings will be known. Because, by the time we get down to the bottom of the guest barrel (and even the most popular talk shows occasionally hit a rough patch), the people tuning into "Conan" will watch him talk to anyone because they tuned into the show to watch him. And that's the universal truth about all talk shows (morning, daytime, late night): a good guest will spike the ratings needle, but most days the people that tune in regularly are the one's that are there to see the guy/gal hosting every day at the same time on the same channel.

The Hollywood Hierarchy:

movie stars > tv stars > radio

Besides, Micheal Cera is big with the college fans that Conan is looking for.

Bill wrote the best summation of the whole Conan-Leno thing months ago. And rightly said Conan's show deserved to fail the second they agreed to water down their show for an audience he never had a chance of attracting anyway.

Liking Conan so far! (though I've always been a fan). I do have to say though....Soundgarden sounded terrible the other night. I was really looking forward to seeing them perform after so long. Chris Cornell was.....ugh.

'Conan' Third Night Averages 2.7 Million Viewers, 1.4 Adults 18-49 Rating

Wednesday night's third episode of TBS's Conan averaged 2.72 million viewers compared to Tuesday's 2.82 million. Wednesday's show averaged 1.88 million adults 18-49 (which works out to a 1.4 adults 18-49 rating) vs. 2.13 million on Tuesday. His Monday premiere had a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating and an average viewership of 4.2 million.

I finally just got around to watching one of the songs. That was the same impression I had.

I didn't think the song was really that crappy, like some did, though. It was droning and monotonous, and had absolutely no chord changes to it at all, and it certainly didn't compare to any of their better stuff, but my tastes still prefer something like that to 99% of the crud I usually hear on late-night talk and variety shows these days.

I sure wouldn't buy the album based on that song, though.
