It's a bug. You can't do it until the bug is fixed.

The 93 supports NTFS and the 4GB file size limit is no more.

Just to clarify, if I play the ts file, do I get HD Audio which I can bitstream to my preamp?

Mine went to "packaging" yesterday, to "shipped" today.

Mine is sitting idle at:
Status: Approved-Ready for Fulfillment
The invite E-Mail now links to a message that units ordered now will ship beginning on Tuesday, Nov 30. This must imply that the initial offering has sold out? It still indicates the pre-release product.

Mine reads 1542 Thursday. The status JUST changed to shipped. Be patient...
so if these players are about to ship, can any of the beta testers comment on the layer changes and if they are an improvement over the 83?

Here we go again
On my 63inch HD plasma screen, would I notice an improvement in the DVD upconversion of the Oppo 93 vis-a-vis the one of my current Denon DVD3910, which uses the Faroudja DCDi FLI-2310 (only 1080i, no 1080p) ?
Although I don't have macroblocking with this Faroudja, I find the upscaled picture lacking sharpness, but that's maybe a limitation of the DVD format and not of the scaler ?
Upscaling is always going to look a little soft because the resolution just isn't in there in the source. If the 93 is as good as or better than the 83 you will definitely see an improvement in scaling over the Faroudja.

So it looks like they are continuing to process over the weekend? I was thinking they'd placed everything on hold until Monday, but hopefully that I'm wrong.
They are but if you track it, the number is not valid. It looks like they are working hard to get orders out, but they wont ship till Monday. Nice to see these will be rolling out next week, and we can get some user reports.
Worth a shot asking... if anyone is not going to use their pre-release link, I would be certainly grateful to use it.

Cheers and thanks in advance to some generous soul (I hope!!)

No improvement. I would wait for the firmware to be out of beta before reporting actual times.

Availability: Pre-release. Limited Quantity. Fulfillment to begin on Tuesday, November, 30.
Will the owners of the pre-release models be under NDA or are they free to make any comments that they like? Or will the NDA be lifted before then?

If only this were true! I still have some HD-DVDs moldering in the back of a closet somewhere.
Yes this so called descriptive reprise of tidbits from everywhere (portrayed as a review) wasn't written too accurately.

People buying pre-release BDP-93's are not under any NDA, they are free to make any comments they like.

@eecubed -
Many of the pre-release purchasers have theirs in "handling" or "shipping" phases and can't say anthing.

The (likely) few that actually have the 93 in their hands may be *gasp* actually watching movies on it.

I think we'll hear a lot on Tues.

Note: even though we had a bunch of locals' that collected theirs Thursday morning, it has been awfully quiet. I still suggest +2 to NR against 26-1108 FW for good playback of DVD/BD.

Hi, did you try the analog multichannel outs? How do you found the sound?
Question: Since the 93 excludes stereo outs...

what would be the best method to connect and set up the 93 with a headphone amp that only has L and R inputs?

Use the FR and FL outputs. There is a downmix setting in Setup that will mix multi-channel sources to stereo and put them to those outputs. Stereo sources do this anyway.

I picked mine up on Friday and used it for about 8 hours.

Initial impressions:

1. Build quality seems to have gone a step forward. The tray mechanism glides open and closes with a nice subdued "thud". I'm digging the new look.
2. It passed virtually all the motion adaptive interlaced tests from the Spears and Munsil BD.
3. Subjective DVD impressions are positive. I don't think it's any better or worse than the ABT so far.
4. The Netflix interface (browsing titles) looks soft compared to the 720p Roku, with some jaggies in the movie artwork. Playback looks fine however. I also wish internet content was integrated into the UI better.
5. The analog audio does seem improved. Need more testing.

So far the 93 is just what I expected-- an evolutionary, not a revolutionary product.

Full review in a few weeks.

Been using the hdmi cable for sound. I don't know if I will use analog. It seems to sound fine anyways. I am bitstreaming.

In my tests with the Beta hardware, the SD-DVD layer change delay is a bit worse than with the 83. However it is possible that the units you folks are getting have a newer loader (based on the version numbers posted above), so that may need to be retested.
