Reason being, I don't have ethernet connection up in my theater room. I could connect it down at my computer, but there would be no display.

I thought there would be a file to download on a usb for firmware. That's why I asked.

New to Oppo, sorry if this is elementary to you all!

Ethernet (wired or wireless) is just one of the options. You can also download the firmware update when available and put it on a flash drive or burn it to a CD / DVD. Yes, you would need a display of some sort available to do the firmware update.

Edit - I see Bill posted as I was typing - stop doing that Bill

There is no more protection at least at the network level (unless your router supports mac filtering for wired connections, which I have never seen). Of course you have to select DHCP or static IP setting based on your router config.
The wireless dongle provided is to be used only if you can not use wired connection.

As for the audio, yes you would use the bitstream setting if you want the preamp to do the decoding.

gracias amigo!

Just got mine in today...I have to say the front bezel and sublime control buttons is a much more mature theme than the previous model IMO. That's why I actually holded out buying oppo83. But defiantly glad they pushed this out this year.

If I have my HDMI set to bitstream for blu ray and I pop in a SACD, will the player automatically convert the SACD to PCM and send it to my pre/pro or do I have to change the HDMI setting?

Mine arrived today, also, and I agree. Although, when not using a remote, those buttons on the front are sure going to be hard to find.

There is a separate Setup menu setting specifically for SACD output. Choices are PCM or DSD.

Thanks

I actually like the front bezel on the 83 more. I like the bigger letters/screen on the front of it. I can read how much time is remaining on the movie on the front of the panel from the couch with the 83, it's pretty tough for me to make out what it says on the 93 from the couch.

Id prefer to not even see it when Im watching a movie, considering the room is dark.

You have that choice. There's a Setup menu option which turns off the front panel display until you do some action with the remote.

Yepp, I was glad to see that. Same thing on the DVDO, it goes blank after a few seconds.

I wonder if that is newer firmware out already?

Oppo's attention to detail is amazing. Providing customers with this level of status updates is unheard in all of my electronic purchasing over the years.

If someone want my link PM me, I think it's still good until the 30th? I'm tempted to buy the 93, but I have keep my eye on the price.

So it's either I delete or someone can use it.

I'm a little surprised it's showing an estimated arrival of the 26th being that I'm only about 4 hours away. It was in San Jose as of 7 pm today.

Hope it somehow makes its way to me tomorrow.

****fingers crossed****

Unfortunately I don't know in which direction your "4 hours" are, but there is an option for "local pickup" for those in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I'm actually 4 hours south of them. I just saw an update today.

It went from its original location to roughly 10 miles south, then back another 35 miles north, only to go another 396 miles south. It is now 3 hours south of its destination!!!

Why are they torturing me like this??? LOL. I'm scheduled to receive it on Black Friday. I likely wouldn't have watched any movies tomorrow b/c of family coming over and all, but I just don't know why my player went so far south.

For those that have it, I hope you're enjoying it. Oh, and an early Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!!

Neuromancer can you answer this question? I'm curious about this too as I make my BD backups as straight folders and not ISOs. You said before in other posts to extract iso. I would just like a definitive answer that it will play folders from a hard drive like a disc (i.e. Disc menus, etc). I searched this thread and it only give vague answers for assumption that it does it, but I'm sure people want to know for sure.

Thanks in advance

P.S. If it does, I may go back to Oppo from my Dune Prime.

Yes, with a no. Right now NTFS drives are not supported for AVCHD, but once they are, you will get the full BD experience (menus, annoying trailers and all).

If you are referring to your budget, I understand. But if you are referring to the price of the player, do not expect it to change. It is what it is and it will remain exactly @ that price; it will not be discounted or "on-sale", same as the 80 and 83. That is the Oppo way.

Someone at the fedex office is testing it for you.

Seriously, what did FedEx say when you called them about this?

Wow.

I thought the "93SE" concept wasn't supposed to come until well into 2011?

Heh, I'm surprised I posted about it before someone already would have put a thread up for it.

Somewhat old news. It's not an "upgraded BDP-93", it's built from the ground up with analog output as it's primary attraction. Release date and specifics are not due till well after 1/1/11. Even "Q1 2011" might be pushing things. A lot depends on how smooth and quick the BDP-83 release goes.

plus you also better hope that oppo was not incorrect in what they told me in that the bdp-93 does NOT have cinavia detection...otherwise your BD backups will all be useless once they all contain cinavia protection, and that is coming for sure. once i get mine next week i will be testing it and reporting back with "The Losers"..but I am still hoping someone will try it before me.
