Pioneer or Denon AV receiver

Thread Starter
Hi. This is my first post so be easy on me. I am looking for a receiver and am stuck between Pioneer or Denon. I definitely need 7.1 or 7.2. I was thinking the Pioneer VSX-32 or some comparable denons. Also which would be better in EQ setup, Pioneers MCACC or Denons Audyssey. My price range is no higher than $900.
Any suggestions or comments appreciated.

if you are even considering the Pioneer VSX-32, then take a look at the VSX-1120. With the exception of the 12v trigger, amber display, and RS232 remote control input the two units are the same, and Amazon.com has a 37% discount on the 1120 !!!

Amazon is an authorized Pioneer internet dealer - but the Elite line can only be sold by brick & mortar stores http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...ternet+Dealers

I thought for the cost I would check into the VSX-1120 instead of the VSX/31. But the 2" additional depth between the two is a deal breaker. Wonder why they are different?

the VSX 31 = VSX 1020 and the VSX 32 = VSX 1120
cute bit of marketing on Pioneer's part, I guess the additional price for the Elites pays for the additional year of warranty. But if warranty is an issue, just get a 3 year warranty from SquareTrade at a fraction of the price.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the VSX-1120 also has RS232 control?

Bottom left corner... or is it not as fully featured as the VSX-32? Oh and BTW, BB has them on sale for just a tad higher than Amazon in case you want to see it in person first...

But how would either VSX-32 or VSX-1120 compare to the Denon 991 or Denon 3311 or other receivers within this range. Also, any other recomendations other than these. Really appreciating the help.

Well, for one, the 3311 and 1120 are NOT in the same price category.

The 3311 is better in a few areas than the 1120; but, the real question is whether or not you think the very large price difference is worth it...

What are the differences. The price won't be a problem if the features that denon offers are better. Is it something where i should be willing to pay an extra $100-$200.

The 1120 is $500... Where are you seeing the 3311 for $700, or less?

even ebay doesn't sell a 3311ci at that price point, and that's for a gray market unit with no factory warranty service. Legitimate authorized dealers are $1,100 and up

Comparing a 1120 to a 3311ci is absolutely "apples to oranges" and a legitimate sale on a 3311ci will be more than the OP's $900 budget

You can get the 3310 for around 500.00. Its a good deal if you don't need 3D. I had a Pioneer 1020 and didn't like it as much as my denon 1508. I don't think it had the power of the denon because it would get bright at loud volumes. At moderate volumes it sounded great. The Advanced MCACC is a powerful tool so if you like playing with settings and being able to control everything Pioneer would be for you. The Audyssey gave me better results but it's not something you can have alot of control with. You run it and you're pretty much done. The 3311 has Audyssey Multi EQ XT so that might give you slightly better results than the Multi EQ on the 3310 but if you don't need 3D I don't know if its worth the extra price. I went with the 3310 and I'm very happy I did. They are all good receivers and I don't think you can go wrong either way. The 3310 and 1120 are both great deals on amazon right now

I am sorry about the misunderstanding, but i was talking about my budget being raised to $1100. But is the price difference worth the extra feature denon might offer. Plus i was thinking for pioneer i might stick to the VSX-32 or is there no point in doing so at all.

Well, the vsx-32 is identical to the 1120 in every way, except: the vsx32 has a 12v trigger, yellow text LCD (instead of white), a longer warranty, and the gold Elite badge. The vsx32 is roughly $100-$150 more than the 1120. There are no other differences.

So, you can decide. Are those four items worth the added premium to you?

So could anyone give me a run down on the differences between the Pioneer VSX-1120 and the Denon AVR-3311. Really appreciate the help. Also I am switching over from the Harman Kardon AVR 745 and it was a great receiver so how would the two receivers compare compare to HK AVR-745.
