GT720 Projector...

Man, I haven't posted in decades it seems...

I currently have a 47" LG 60Hz 1080p that will be relocated to the bedroom should I decide to pull the trigger on this GT720 however, being an LCD guy, I'm having a hard time committing to DLP for lack of knowledge.

The major feature I like about the pj is the short throw combined with a wall mount I found (that costs through the nose @ $250+) which extends up to 57" from the wall - not ceiling. I have a rather large ceiling fan that makes any kind of down-rod in my vaulted ceiling impossible.

The reason I'm trying to get rid of my LCD is because now that I have XBL Kinect & PS3 Move, I need a little more room between me & the sensors. Additionally, because the Kinect sensor ideally wants to be at 2.5" with nothing in front of it, removing my curio under the LCD seems the most practical way to gain 3" of space and allow me to wall-mount the sensor as well.

I'm on the fence about the 3D but I threw two of their branded glasses in the cart to pair up with my HTPC to see what it'd be like. My biggest question is...

1. Has anyone had a GT720 Mounted Upside-down for 6+ months yet?
I've heard stories of other Optoma's having issues with lamps working themselves lose because of gravity and heat. Additionally, when the screen is rotated, is the 3D compensated as well?

I've also heard, that aside from it shipping in a well-packed backpack, the actual unit is constructed of rather flimsy plastic. How likely is it to withstand the occasional lugging around - as it seems to be designed - or is it instead more of a marking ploy than realistic?

As an FYI, LCD flat panels and LCD projectors are totally different beasts. My only reason to bring this up is that you mentioned you were concerned with switching, but it really is going to be different no matter what (whether you get LCD or DLP front projector).

I meant switching from a LCD display to a DLP projector. My GT700 (not 720, apparently, although I can't really track down the differences in the models, if any exists) arrived today. Haven't had a chance to unpack it because nothing is set up for in the living room anymore as I'm also in the process of renovating the coat closet to the AVS closet.

Still very interested to find validation/dismissal of a review on the GT700 that I read that stated the lamps fall out of their socket when mounted inverted for long periods of time. This is my first pj so we'll see how it goes...

The screen will be 106" (diag), the pj will be 5'7" away and I will be approximately 13' away except when playing motion-based games like my Kinect/Move.
