-edit .. nevermind. Looks like the apple TV unit will allow that! Damn it. I might be out $2000 + $100 dollars now! Do you just plug in the Apple TV to an HDMI port on the receiver and then you pick the input from the receiver which recognizes it as Apple TV? Do you always have to have the TV on to navigate around to pick what to play from Pandora?

You don't browse the entire hard drive. You browse what is in an iTunes library. You would have to make sure your music + video is in your library. The Anthem doesn't recognize AppleTV as a specific device. You configure an HDMI input and it will show up the same as any other source device.
I suggested it because it is a cheap, easy fix for a streaming solution with a solid UI + easy to setup + easy for others to use. It also won't be outdated as quickly as if it were built directly into the receiver. iTunes can also be controlled via the remote app on an ipod / ipad. The downside is you need iTunes running somewhere on a computer. All media servers need to be run somewhere. Unless you really want to mount a hard drive / USB device into a player -- I find these hard to browse / sync with the rest of a large library.
You will need the TV on to select some apple TV apps / features. If streaming audio though, I typically have the TV off and use the computer directly or the remote app on an ipad to browse.
The closest I've come to browsing with no tablet / no computer / no TV is something like the Marantz NA7004 streamer. It's doable, but you do not really want to browse a large library that way (Same as having a large hard drive attached it's usually a massive list matching the filesystem on the drive). The only thing that makes the Marantz bearable is the quick scroll knob type control it has. I use this in a separate two channel system where there is no screen hooked up. I still prefer to use the iTunes remote app for this Airplay device as well.
