Show starts tomorrow and I can talk to reps then.

Thanks for the info. Couple of questions if you don't mind ;-)

1) does the MRX 510 have the 7.1 or 5.1 pre-outs
2) have they changed the DAC/DSP chips from the initial MRX line --- if so, did they do it in house or are they using an off-the-shelf chip?
3) will the ARC software be able to be run on Apple devices?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Best if the specs handout literature on the new MRX series could be scanned & posted here.smile.gif

I think it is a big mistake to update these units with no HDMI 2.0 (if that is in fact the case). I would not update my main receiver (Onkyo 3009) without 2.0 at this point because it is very possible I might buy some UHDTV equipment in the next 2 or 3 years and will need 60 FPS (HZ) switching capability for sure.

I think this is why Onkyo has held up replacements for the 3010/5010 series.......logical if you want to supply your customer with the cutting edge equipment that you can use a few years.

Is there anyone that doesn't use an off-the-shelf chip?

Here's a picture of the back panel of the 510. The 710 looks identical, and so does the 310 except the pre-outs and amp outputs are 5.1 only. So, 510 and 710 have 7.1 pre-outs, but there is no pre-out for wide or height channels.

The show opens tomorrow at 9:00 mountain time. I will try to find out if ARC will run on Mac and ask about DAC/DSP chips. I will not be able to scan any literature, but I could try to take a picture.

On a side note, Martin Logan has a sound room nearby too, and I see some of their subs are able to be calibrated using PBK (ARC for the low end). They actually appear to be selling PBK kits under that name. I did not know that Anthem was licensing that technology for other companies. Interesting.

Do it comes with HDMI 2.0 or just the old HDMI 1.4?.

Thanks! I have the PBK kit for my two Paradigm Reference Seismic 110 subwoofers. Works great.

Cheers.

That rear panel shot has got me worried, it appears that support for either Heights/Wides has been dropped. The speaker terminals only have labelling for Rears, Bi-Amps, and Zone2. My fronts heights would become redundant???
Also, I thought the early release info mentioned support for two subwoofers???
Have to wait til the full info is released.
Regards, Mike.

Information is now on Anthems website for the new MRX line

Looking at the pdf on Anthem's site it also says only the 510 and 710 can decode DTS-HD Master Audio. The 310 can only do DTS-HD High-Resolution Audio. So even if you only care about 5.1 that will rule the 310 out for a lot of people.

Probably a typing error/oversight. Worse case scenario is to let the Blu-Ray player send it LPCM data.

Cheers.

Very true the player could always do the decoding. not sure if it's an oversight or error though. They made sure they printed under decoding as "• DTS-HD Master Audio (MRX 710/510)" Looks like they meant to list it that way. I guess only time will tell.

I'm in the same boat. I've actually got 9.1 with heights, so I definitely can't do the new line without the pre-outs. It doesn't look like it has hdmi 2.0 either, unless I'm blind - which is unusual considering these will be the new line for a few years anyways. Oh well - guess it saves me money for not having to switch.

According to Anthem's literature yes.

I would be surprised and disappointed if that's true. What modern AVR at even 1/3 the price cannot do that?
Yeah kind of cheesy having the cheapest receivers out there able to do it, but not an Anthem. It would clearly be Anthem's way of trying to get people to buy the 510 over the 310.

How were you deceived? I'm not questioning if you were or not, I'm just wondering what you meant. You didn't go into any detail.

From what I understand there were specific things in the MRX x00 line that Anthem was unable to change with the DSP stuff that was out of their control. They did have the ability to fix this in the AVM and D2 pros so I figured that perhaps they learned from the initial release and the 2.0 version will allow them to fix any similar type issues.

Cheers.

Well, what can I say? I am a (happy) MRX500 owner and I expected more from the specs of these receivers... Sound, in the end, is all that matters, but I would have expected Anthem to make me want to update my gear. Up to now, I am more than happy to have an "old" MRX model
post #15330 of 16455
Awww shucks. Look at it this way: the 300 was an over achiever.
