Anthem MRX Receivers - 300, 500, 700 Owners Thread & Tweaking Guide - Page 15

In anticipation for the up coming installation!

My room is quite small and 3, at most 4 people can watch comfortably. The 4th person would have left back very close to their ear!

In terms of doing the readings when runs ARC, if I am correct one can use up to 10 different positions. My question is should I do 10 different readings or just 3 using were people sit? I sit slightly off centre and the others sit on my right if that helps.

Apologies if I have missed this.

Am I correct that the ARC software is the same for the D2v as it is for the MRX 500? Version 3 if I am correct.

In terms of the MRX 500 is there anything else the dealer will need (bar computer etc) to install and use ARC?

Thanks

I will definitely do so, but I am still experimenting with various alternative settings and I am receiving an uploading/verifying error message when attempting to complete ARC during the initial setup window. I have to save my measurements and go into the saved settings and then recalculate and upload to complete the process. Although, I am using a Thinkpad with the Keyspan usb adapter that I have used since my older D2 days, I am thinking that it is not an Anthem MRX/ARC issue and that there is a timeout issue with this ancient laptop as upload/verify seems to take far greater time than previously and the Thinkpad has been exhibiting some freezing/shutdown issues as of late. It may be time to locate a copy of Windows and try BootCamp on my new MacBook Air. Is ARC compatible with Windows 7?

On another note, the MRX settings do not appear to have hit the Harmony database yet as the Anthem MRX is not recognized. And, the existing Anthem AV volume setting (there is only one) in the Tivo remote control settings database does not work with the MRX. I guess I have some work (play?) to undertake this weekend.

ARC is the same for all receivers and processors. You may need a sound meter to set the trim level for the LF and SUB so you end up with a 75db solution. ARC will set all volume trims even the LF and sub since it uses a broader freq. to measure.

I would like to run ARC on a PC in my audio rack. How long is the USB mic cable that comes with the unit? I am guessing I will need 15'-20' to reach all my seating positions.

As a side note, I just noticed the user manual was put up on the Anthem site. Makes for some required reading for those like me waiting for their unit to arrive!

I have no problem with Windows 7 and the new version of ARC is compatible with it. As for this sequence you have to follow to complete ARC, let Anthem tech know about this as it should not happen. Make sure you get the win 7 drivers for the keyspan.

The manuals are also located in the downloaded ARC file, as well and have been available for some time now.

What is the new firmware update for?

If this doesn't work, email or call Anthem tech, they wil be happy to help. Also if you do have a screw up with a firmware update there is a utility call Flash Eraser which is in the ARC download folder. However don't play with this unless Anthem Tech advises.

I did reboot the computer several times but I kept getting the same error message. As I said, it seems logical that if the monoprice cable was able to communicate with the receiver and update the firmware, then it would be able to communicate with the receiver when running the ARC software. This doesn't appear to be the case, so I'm wondering if ARC requires something different from the USB-RS232 adapter than a firmware does.

Do you have to go into the driver settings in Control Panel to change the stop bits or any of the other serial comm parameters?

Fixes some glitches. Below are the release notes for what has changed in the main firmware.

CHANGE LIST

v50.00 main update:

1. Changed Dolby Volume default to Off and Dolby Volume Leveler to Low.
2. Fix for S/PDIF audio loss when cable/sat receiver switched between SD and HD channels.
3. Copy protection should not engage with component in/out HD resolution - fixed.
4. Fix for a video game that couldn't be displayed properly.
5. Fix for a Blu-ray player that could not be connected in MRX Through mode when outputting 1080p24.

Multimedia Update v.1.01

1. Minor display improvement.

check my posts earlier on in this thread. i had the exact same issue. i resolved it by uninstalling arc, downloading the version off the anthem website, and re-installing. reboot and it worked perfectly. just to be sure it wasn't a fluke, i uninstalled the downloaded version again, re-installed the version that came on the cd, and again had the same issues.

not sure why this happened, but try downloading and report back to us. i too was pulling out my hair that night!

Thanks...I vaguely remember reading that post, but I guess it didn't register with me OK, I'll try it again tonight. I just heard back from Anthem tech support and they of course suggested the Keyspan adaptor. They also suggested running it in Windows XP with SP3, but I've already tried that too.

There is now a link in the FAQ on the first page of this thread, to firmware updates. As well there is one on the first post for ARC.

well recieved my MRX500 . YEAH !!
I will hopefully set it up tonight but had a question. I was reading the ARC operating guide that came in the box and it says : the installation will put serveral files into an Anthem folder on your computer and create shortcuts on the start menu and desk top . Two of the files will begin with your AV processor's serial number : Examples : 123456_1000002.cal and 123456_100002 Anthem.file.
my question is i see the cal file but not the other one . should there be 2 or only one?

Both files should be there. If not, uninstall the ARC program and then delete the remaining Anthem folder in program files. Reinstall ARC from the CD, not the downloadable one, and see if those two files are there. After deleting the ARC program, reboot and then reinstall.

Any word on when the 3D support is going to be added?

check the CD and see if it is in one of the folders. Copy the missing file and place it into the Anthem folder. If not there, you might need to have them send you another disc or perhaps they can email the file. Call Anthem Tech if the above doesn't work.

No luck as there are no files on the cd or you don't know how to look for them? The cd that came with your receiver should have these files.

I am at work and do not have the CD with me, but when I installed the CD, I did note that I could only view the .cal file. I do not recall seeing the second Anthem.file being visible. I know that I had the two files with my D2. Maybe, the ARC firmware for the MRX receivers has been modified to not require both files. But, this is not what the ARC information sheet states.

I was looking at my D2v files so maybe there is only one. Won't be able to check for a while also at work, so hopefully gostan will find and solve this mystery.

It is quite likely ARC only needs the mic calibration file for MRX users since there is no such thing as an MRX receiver that doesn't have an ARC license. The 2nd file used with the AVM and D series processors is just the ARC license file, needed because when ARC first shipped it was an add-on for those processors.

These two files (or just one) are not hidden. They should be on the install CD in the same folder as the Setup.exe program -- the installer itself.

After the install, the files end up in Windows > Program Files > Anthem > Anthem Room Correction.

Did I read correctly that arc doesn't set speakers distance?

That is correct. You set that yourself manually. Why? Because the current schemes to set distance automatically can produce less accurate results in some setups.

Unfortunately, I am not able to dial in completely accurate distance results with the MRX700 since there is no ability to set speaker distances other than in set one foott or cm distance(s). All of my speakers seem to be located at the foot + 6 inches location, which means that I have to fudge the final distance up or down one foot. Anthem should have given us the ability to set speaker distances in inches/cm or in the alternative, simply allowed automatic distance setting. Right now, the MRX receivers do not allow for completely accurate results.
Ok. I can set those manually without much trouble. It does set the crossovers correctly though right?

Automatic setting would be no MORE accurate and would often be significantly LESS accurate.
