I haven't run arc yet because I am waiting for the keyspan adapter to arrive.
My firmware is 40.08 and I cannot update it due to lack of adapter.
I also have Anthem MCA-30 driving my LCR speakers.

LCR Speakers are Paradigm Studio 100's
Sub is Paradigm Sub 15
Rear and surrounds are Triad In/Wall Bronze

My current Blu Ray player is Panasonic DMP-BDP310 but my new Oppo 93 will be delivered today.

I have not been able to get any sound into the sub woofer.
First I found out that default settings in the Panasonic were to downgrade 2 channel PCM. I changed its setting to bitstream and Anthem receiver started showing Dolby 3/2 when I played Casino royale.

I don't hear any sound coming out of the sub woofer. It is plugged in and the cables are connected. I am using Sub W pre-out from the receiver and plugged into LFE in in the sub woofer.

I have tried doing a quick setup many times. I do this when I have a BluRay movie playing. First question I have to answer is something like HDMI/TV what should be the answer. I am using a Projector.

When I choose the subwoofer to Yes the receiver changes from BluRay to Tuner on its own.

I have 2 sets of wires running from the media closet to the sub woofer. I was thinking of switching wires to rule out bad prewiring.

Let me know if anyone has any suggestion to verify if my sub woofer works.

I have waited a very long time to finish the home theater so it is tough to not being to able to get even 7.1 working.

Thanks

I would like to point out that if you do have a serial port on your pc/laptop then you do not need the keyspan. My laptop has a serial port on the dock so that is what I use.

Many thanks for your response.
I was able to send manual test tone to all 8 of my speakers include sub woofer.
It was a relief to hear the subwoofer turn on. This is a relief because I was not looking forward to finding faulty wiring.

My laptop does not have a serial port. I do have another brand serial to USB adatper but Keyspan adapter seems to be the one to use so I will wait for it.

I did hookup up Oppo 93. Change the audio to bit stream and the receiver is showing Dolby 3/2.

I am going to play around with various settings and see if I can notice sub woofer turn on when a movie is playing.

You say "notice [the] sub woofer turn on"... what turns on your sub? Is the sub set to turn on automatically when it receives a signal or is it set to turn on with a trigger or do you simply manually power it on and off? Is there a light that lets you know when it is on?

Keep in mind that at lower volumes if the sub is set to auto detect it is possible the signal is not strong enough to trigger the sub. Can you set the sensitivity of the subs auto detect circuitry?

Also what do you have the MRX's sub level set to? 0, negative number, positive number?

What did you set your speaker crossovers at? If they are all set to full, there may not be a lot for the sub to do except the LFE track of a DVD...

Lastly, I can't recall if you can set "Bass Manager" to none? Just check that your Bass Manager is set to the Movie Profile (at this point) under the Main Source Setup for the source input you are playing with.

Sub is set to turn on automatically. It does not have any lights.
When I sent the test tone I heard loud thumping noises.

Sub woofer Volume level is set to 50%
Crossover set to 80
Phase set to 0

Bass Management is set to movie mode
Everything else set to default values.
The default value of Front was large.
I changed the front to small at 60hz
I changed the sub crossover to 60 too.

Now when I play a movie I can hear sub come on.
I will wait for the Keyspan adapter to arrive and tune the system.

Thanks

When you run ARC you will want to set your crossover to either the highest setting or bypass. Let the MRX handle the crossover.

Well, things may not be set quite right yet... but at least we established everything is working! Once you run ARC it will overwrite/update/correct all the MRX settings to the correct speaker sizes/crossover points/level settings.

+1

When you run ARC, remove any crossover settings all of your speakers (most likely only the Sub). As rwheel said... ARC will take care of the crossovers for you. When did you order your Keyspan, that thing has got to be getting close

Just curious, for the CEC, will I need the rev 1.4 hdmi? I haven't done the MRX updates as yet. Soon hopefully...summer can be so busy with normal outside living going on.

I just recently purchased MRX 700 with milleniaOne 5.0 with sub. After running ARC speakers set to small at 120hz, sub setup with PBK. Sounds great was wondering if anyone had any pointers. Thanks.

We assume you ran PBK before running ARC? If not you will want to re-run ARC once PBK is completed.

Also you mention setting speakers to small and 120hz... is this were ARC set everything or did you change it after ARC was run?

As Jayray said... post up your graphs and your targets window.

Here are some pictures of the inside of MRX500 if anyone's interested. I did not know they used capacitors "ELNA for Audio" for the filter.

http://soundnews.ro/2011/08/18/anthe...arc-precision/

Does anyone have any idea what the DAC's are used in MRX500?

I suppose the main question is this. After running the PBK for the SUB, do I need to make any adjustments before running the ARC? Before running the PBK set level at midway point, cut-off to bypass, and phase at 0. Should this be adjusted?
Thanks.

Once you ran PBK you do not need to do anything before running ARC. No volume changes, cut-off, phase, etc...

I have a Panasonic TH50pz800u. I was using several inputs for satellite, PS3, PC and Xbox. I had each input configured for what I thought was the best picture. Each one was different. Now with the single output on my MRX500, I can only configure one HDMI input. What looks great for the Blu Rays does not look the same for my satellite. Any ideas? Anyone else have a similar issue? I am slowly reading through the 200+ pages of this forum now.

I got my keyspan adapter yesterday and I am now at the latest version of firmware.
Based on the recommendation here I will install the multimedia update next.
I will run PBK on Paradigm Sub 15
I will read the quick start guide on ARC and start configuring the system.

I do have a question about HDMI.
I ran 2 HDMI cables from my media closet to the Projector. I also ran 3 cat 6 wires.
Reason for HDMI was having an extra wire in case there is a problem with one of them.
I recenlty purchased OPPO BDP-93 that has 2 HDMI outputs. I do have the option to bypass the receiver and run one HDMI directly to the projector.

I wanted to understand the impact of running everything through the receiver.
I like the simplicity of running everything through the receiver. Will the picture quality be in any different if HDMI is going through the receiver vs directly to the display device.

Picture Quality should not be any different. Especially if you set the MRX to use Through. Though I suspect in most cases you won't notice the difference in Auto either.

Main Impact (and a big plus in my mind) one source for changing everything... the MRX.

configure the inputs at the Anthem accordingly, they allow video changes like brightness and contrast

The article you linked lists the DAC: Cirrus CS42528, which is a CODEC (eight channel DAC, two channel ADC on one chip).

Additionally, I posted the same DAC info in this thread last month:

when a new set of speakers are set up, will arc need to be re-run once the speakers are broken in?

I would run it when you first set them up and again after a few hundred hours of break in. The sound is likely to change and ARC will need to know about it for a new correction.

This is what I wrote Anthem Support.. any outside advice?

Brand new unit ver 4.05. I have visual snow like distortion and lines appearing from my video source (pS3 in 1080P).

I opened a previous ticket an recieved firmware 5.12. Didnt help

I've tried switching inputs on the MRX, I've switched inputs on the display device (EPSON 8500UB), bought all new HDMI cables $$ and tried a separate Blu Ray player. I've connected the blu ray player/PS3 direct to the Epson, no problem. If i run it through the MRX, even powered off (through) I get the distortion.

I have my MRX registered. Please contact me with a resolution.

Thank you .

Give Anthem a chance to work with you. They provide excellent support and if it looks like there is an issue with your MRX, they will take care of it!
Is the video processor on the MRX the same as on the AVM 50v?
Noise reduction, up scaling, deinterlacing, able to do stretch for scope?
I know the receiver is cheaper than a stand alone scalar, but, how would it compare to the Lumagen mini?

Based on my troubleshooting, is there anything I missed?

What BR Player would you use if you were me? besides an OppO $$

Have you changed the video output to through?

I have a Sony S550 and it works great. A little slow sometimes but no problems. I am considering either a an Oppo 93 or a Sony 780.

Any decent current BluRay player from a major manufacture should work well, especially in through.

If I'm not mistaken, you said the snow appears when the MRX is set to "Through" for video and also when you have the MRX off and simply are passing the signal through?

I think I would work with Anthem, it sounds like you have tried a number of reasonable tests and I think at this point you need the Pros at Anthem so they can run through tests (some you may have already tried, just work with them) and see if they think there is an issue that might be firmware related (I'm thinking if you have tried several source players this is unlikely) or perhaps an issue with your specific MRX.
