Thecus NAS RAID5 vs. RAID0 w/backup?

Thread Starter
I am currently running a Thecus 4100PRO NAS w/ 4x1TB WD green drives setup in a RAID5 configuration. I had figured this would give me the best compromise between size, performance, and redundancy. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just go RAID 0 to get the full 4TB and just back it up to an external USB drive attached to the NAS. I believe this could be automated and localized if I loaded the rsync module from thecus.

Currently I'm ok for space, I'm just serving my DVD rips, downloaded video and music off the NAS over wireless. Eventually I want to go to wired GigE and put my blu-ray rips on there as well though, which is going to chew up space fast.

Anybody have any thoughts on going one way or the other?

Thanks!
Rob

I think you would be safer not using raid at all if you are going to back up the data anyways. Just have 4 separate drives and then if you are using media browser it will see it all as one anyways if you want.
