How much has reciever tech improved in the last few years? (805 vs. 3007)

Hey guys, a few years back I bought a closeout Onkyo TX-SR805 and have been fairly happy with it, it was a marked improvement from my previous Sony receiver. This week I saw the Onkyo TX-NR3007 on clearance for $750. It looks like a great receiver but was wondering if audio tech had improved enough over the last few years that it would be a considerable upgrade. Anyone have experience with both units that could give opinions?
Thanks!

You may want to do a search on my username LOl; my last 3 weeks of posts are mostly about my transition from an 805 to a 3007 just like you are looking at ($750 @ BB). In a nut shell, if your doing it for height or wide, go for it but understand there are little bugs with clicking and the hdmi stream occasionally resetting you will have to deal with. If you will only use 7.1 then it's not worth it. The 3007 sounds wonderful, but it has some usage quirks. The network and USB stuff works well for me though.

Thanks, interesting reading. I'm running 7.1 right now. I was interested in the 3007 purely for audio quality purposes. The second subwoofer out would be nice, I have a Buttkicker and a second sub that I could run either off of it. I've heard there are separate power supplies for each processor that clean up the sound, I thought that might help with audio quality.

I've been reading that the 805/875 generation were more powerful and output wattage closer to their advertised levels, and that the newer units don't reach anywhere close when pushing 7.1 or more. I'm kind of surprised that the higher end 3007 with Ultra 2 Plus and all the new features isn't in a different class than the 805.

I looked on Best Buy and did not see the 3007 for that price. Is it refurbished or open box?

I've seen it at 3 BB stores. They were all labeled as "Clearance" on the tag, all found in the theater room of the Magnolia section. If your BB doesn't have a Magnolia room they may not carry it. All remaining stock should be at the clearance price, so if they have an left it would be for that price, otherwise it'd be the display model. I didn't check which stores have boxed units remaining, as I wanted to get opinions if it was worth upgrading or not.
