DD & DTS levels compared to new HD codecs?

I have the Insignia NS-R5101HD 5.1 receiver, which has it's own "Auto Speaker setup". After I ran it, I checked and it set front speakers to large. I switched them to "small", and then checked speaker levels with my Sound & Vision cal. disc's test tones. There was a couple decibel difference with most of the speakers. How do I know which is more accurate? And will the results be the same when I listen to Dolby True HD or DTS-HD? Thanks.

Hi Jim,

I would always double check any auto settings as they rarely are correct.Do it manually and as long as all channels are at the same db level for the same test source it will be fine.

Dts and dts MA analog out in my system are approx 4db,s higher than dolby digital and true HD.With a AVR etc this may,or may not be the case with dialog normalization.

Cheers Victor.
