Flyboyusa's Basement Theatre

So, I previously started a thread when I was in the planning stages. I've decided to start a new thread now that I'm actually underway with construction.

First off, a couple sketchups and ACad dwgs showing the overall layout. I think this will be the best layout considering the overall length/size of the basement. I was concerned with leaving the bar/theater all one area due to acoustics, light, etc. so I designed a divider wall with a large arch and another smaller doorway. The 5 ft. long arch should provide the "open concept" but yet still give some division between the areas. Besides, I've seen a few designs with the back bar concept that looked really great.

I agree, the seating area may be re-purposed eventually, just had to throw a few seats/couch in to keep the wifey interested!
Anyhow, the guest room may become my daughters room when she is older. I have DD and greenglue on the bedroom side already, plus Roxul in between, plus another DD and GG layer on the other side once I get to that point. Also have a DD w/o GG on the ceiling, with cellulose blown into the joist bays b4 drywall went up. So far, the green glue has performed exceptionally well, amazing stuff that I would recommend to anyone.

Finally got the bedroom hallway drywalled! Need to mud/tape and flooring next.

The osb is used only because I have the arched openings, it's used only for support to make the form for the arch. Most of the walls are 2 layers of 1/2 drywall with green glue in between for soundproofing, but around the arch areas I use 1 layer of 1/2 osb and 1 layer of 1/2 drywall. If you just have square door openings, you could just use the 2 layers of drywall with gg inbetween.

The main recessed lights for the HT room are in and working! I plan to have additional eyeballs along the soffit to wash the side walls as well as stage lighting.

Thanks Fuzzybear. The flooring is a engineered bamboo 3/4" snap together product, they had it on clearance at Menards in Elkhart for $2.89/sq.ft. which is a bargain for this type of flooring. It was easy to install and so far is working very well.
Anyhow, nice to see another northern IN Hoosier on the forum!
Sounds like you enjoy beer as well, bonus!

Thanks RT, homebrew is a lot of fun, I would highly recommend you take up the hobby, anyways that's got it's own forum to write in, I'll stick to the audio/video here.

markek, the underlayment I used was from Menards, it's a thin blue foam with a poly liner on one side. This was recommended for install over concrete, since it acts as a moisture barrier as well as a sound absorber. The sales guy specifically said not to use any felt or natural fiber based underlayment as it will absorb moisture and begin to mold/mildew.

It is difficult to think of any and all wires, cables, water lines, natural gas lines, drains, etc.. that need to be run in the ceiling. I want to make sure I have EVERYTHING that I will possible need before I insulate and drywall the ceiling.
I plan on stapling landscape fabic to cover the enitre ceilling and filling all the joist cavities with blown in cellulose. Then cover with double drywall and green glue. This is what I did in the guest bedroom and it worked very well. I just need to make doubley shure I have everything ran before closing it up!

OK are there any plumbers out there?
I have to tie into my main drain trunk running down the center of my basement.
I will be using an undersink mounted drain pump for my wet bar, it required 1-1/4" drain line with no vent required. So I want to put a Y into the end of the main drain line, I have access to the very end of it and plan on solvent welding in a Y here:

This line is a 3 or 4" running the length of the house and exits out the end of the basement into the septic tank. This is the opposite end and reduces down to 1-1/2" pipe, the elbow pointing up is going to the clothes washer drain.

Thanks leo, I always tend to second guess myself, it's good to hear confirmation from someone else that this drain setup will work.

I managed to get the bar rough framing done tonight as well as the cabinet layout drawn on the floor. Framing for the 1/2 wall was done with 2x6 lumber for stability/strength.

Also, I got the natural gas, electric and low voltage ran to the fireplace location. I started framing the hearth and fireplace corner wall, but realized I have to drywall behind before finishing the framing. Hope to finish this tomorrow.

Well I've made some progress since Jan.. I've decided against the full bar and will leave this space as a sitting area. Got a great deal on a demo unit direct vent fireplace (gotta love craigslist!). All electrical is fully complete, hope to start blowing insulation in all the floor joist bays soon, then hanging sheetrock on the ceiling. Once that's done, I'm hoping the rest will go a little faster.

The fireplace guys were back and finished the install, it's fully functional now - the new fireplace is great.
Just picked up 60 sq. ft. of veneer ledgestone and supplies to get started on the finishing of the fireplace.
Also, picked up oak lumber to build a custom mantel for above the fireplace.
Off to get some more done!........

Scratch coat is complete. Lesson learned, it's better to be too wet of a mix rather than too dry. I started off too dry and had major difficulties, as soon as I made it about like yogurt, it started working much better.
Anyhow, I got it done finally, I have a new appreciation for stone masons!

Finally got to start installing stone work on the fireplace, almost 1/2 way done. Very time consuming, I was trying to go for the stacked stone look without grout lines, but it's not that easy to make them fit exactly together, so I will probably end up with some grout lines.

I'm out of grout, need to get another bag tomorrow, so for the rest of today I'm going to try and get landscape fabric stapled to the bottom of the floor joists in prep. for blowing insulation into the joist bays, then drywall. Can't wait to see the ceilings drywalled so I can start on the soffits in the HT and the stage! Should be soon, pictures to come.
