Hi Ryder125,

We would be happy to do this for you smile.gif We have a large batch of tower cabinets currently under construction so it would be best to discuss this option quickly so that we can custom finish the pair for you before they get finished in one of our standard finishes.

Please give us a call or email if you are still interested.

Thanks!

Long-time lurker here. First, many thanks to all the thread regulars for your in-depth help on this thread. I'm in the market for a 2.0 tower speaker setup (100% music) and I'm really intrigued by these Ascend Towers. I currently have a Denon 2112 AVR [90W/per channel (8-6 Ohm)] and would like to use the zone 2 channels for these towers in a separate listening room. Speaker cable run for this zone 2 would be at least 60-70'. Would I be able to drive these towers in my current situation or would I be better off with a dedicated amp?
Cheers,
J

Just by way of example, I am running 2 Ascend 340's as surrounds with a 60' run of 14ga. cable up one wall, thru the attic and down another wall. I used one twisted pair per binding post so combined it's ~11ga. They are powered by an Onkyo TX-NR809 and I have no issues with driving them. They are less efficient than the Towers so the same run to Towers should be perfectly fine.

HI Jmac,

The Sierra Towers have good efficiency and 90 watts of power is more than enough to drive them to any listening level you would desire. 60 - 70' of cable is also not a problem but I would recommend that the cable be at least 12 - 14 gauge to keep added resistance down (this would be the same for any speakers)

My only concern with the Denon is if you plan to use the Zone 2 at the same time whn running your main 5.1 setup. Doing this might cause a lot of strain on your receiver's power supply (I doubt this unit has a separate power supply for zone 2) and thus the rated power will actually drop for all the channels. If you don't plan on using zone 2 at the same time as zone 1, you will not have any issues at all.

Hope this helps!

Dave,
Thank you very much for the reply. This answers all my questions. I can't see a situation where I'll be running both zones at the same time (especially now knowing it could overload the Denon). Now come the difficult, er, fun choices (finish, RAAL) wink.gif

I don't see the sierra tower center (horizon?) on the website. Does anyone know the dimensions? (Are they published?)

That is only one of the custom centers. Dave will make several different ones depending on what you need.

Of... course restrictions would apply keeping it to a minium of 8" in height x 26" in width...like he stated over at the ascend forum the depth is more flexible.

Well it's official, the Ascend Acoustic Sierra Towers with RAAL are now on my list. Can someone here tell me the crossover points for the drivers? Also can someone provide me detailed specs of the mid and low frequency drivers? I believe these are good drivers (name escapes me ATM). How do they compare with the drivers offered in the SALK SCST and the PSB Imagine T2's?

These will be used for HT and 2 channel music (or 2.1). I want the priority to be on music reproduction, it will likely see as much or more HT use with the wife but when I'm listening to my 2 CH stuff I want it to sound good. I'm coming from the SWAN DIVA 5.1's as my mains and their C3 center. So I'll swap out the frontal arrangement and cross over my SVS PB12/NSD somewhere between 40 and 80hz depending on the speakers/room.

The drivers are proprietary to Ascend....they are not off the shelf.

For the crossover points, I don't recall if Dave ever mentioned them. Might be best to give them a call and ask.

They are proprietary but I thought it was a fairly well known and respected company mfg'ing them?

That is for the soft dome tweeter, which is manufactured by SEAS for Ascend.

Hey guys....

I'm thinking about switching my front stage to Ascend CMT-340s. Currently using Polk M60 and CS2 center. After two years my ears have had enough of these cheap Polks. I'm looking for a more laid back and full sound which I read the CMT-340s would fit the bill. I wanted CHT sho-10s, but the wife is complaining how ugly they would look but approved the Ascends. Has anyone heard both Polk monitors and Ascends? I'm not wanting to make another lateral move but rather an upgrade. Just wanted a little reassurance before pulling the trigger on some B-stock Ascends. biggrin.gif

Or if anyone is thinking about selling their CMT-340s, let me know.

I see a discrepancy....it says they are priced 700 less than the original price of 2598 which should make them 1898, but the price offered on site is 1998.

Good catch. Dave will probably see this post and put up a correction.

I have Polk RT800i's and Ascend 340's and have compared both side by side.

The 340's are much more detailed than my Polks (I use them in my workout room now) and are very neutral. A great speaker to be sure, You'll definitely enjoy the upgrade.

Hello everyone, with the cost of the Towers starting at $1898 with options and finish upgrades adding to that starting price, Ascend has now made that very expensive and extremely intensive process for the piano black finish now just $100 additional charge. In the interim release the piano black finish has been expensive due to the efforts required. Now that its just $100 additional hopefully more can use those funds maybe for the RAAL upgrade and still somewhat be close to that original piano black finish total. Hope this helps.

Brian - when I went on there to order it was adding $200 to the total- bringing it to $2098. Is that fixed? Oh, with the RAAl upgrade it goes to $2798. Should it not be $2698? A bit confusing. Thanks

Hello there in Canada, I just went on the site to simulate a purchase and it did calculate the correct amount, now the "high gloss black" is a $200 charge which also came up correct on the Ascend Direct portion of the site. I'm blown away that the "piano black" charge is now so much more affordable, that is one crazy finish and I had no idea how complicated it is for that. Dang, no wonder baby grand/grand piano's are so expensive eek.gif

Anytime one finds a possible glitch always call us so we can investigate to ensure everyone has an easier and more pleasant purchasing experience. So, who will be the first today to get some of these beasts?
