I think a matching center, at least in timbre is important. The surrounds less important for movies, but for multichannel music, I would timbre match.

Curtis,

I'm late to the party but anyone that feels that your post with the pictures of the Towers was "marketing" is wrong IMO. Over the years I have seen owners of ID companies post pictures of current and future products. The same can be said for those posts (being marketing) which I have no issue with at all. To have an owner of an ID company give members here a heads up on current and future products is a benefit to the members here IMO. Especially if it is in a dedicated thread for that specific product or manufacturer. If someone is posting about a specific product (with pictures) in different threads not related to that product then I can see there being an issue.

What I find interesting is that the pictures of the new center from Ascend that you posted are still up. I guess the member that had an issue with the Tower pictures didn't have problem with that picture. Or maybe they missed that post.

I'm hoping the mods told that member to settle down and that it wasn't a problem.

Peen, it is imperative that you timbre match at least the front three speakers. You don't want the center channel to have a completely different tonality and pitch than the fronts.

I have got to say this as I just saw those ascend towers at the ascend website forum and they really look good. I can understand why some direct competitors will make up unreasonable complaints in having them deleted in this dedicated topic.
^ Who said it was direct competitors? That's a pretty large scale assumption man. Do you have proof?

I think that is doubtful since the post was taken down.

Maybe not a direct competitor, but a fan of one. Those would be my guesses.

Well that narrows down the list of suspects considerably

Anyways, the towers look pretty nice. I may have missed it, but how does the impedance/phase angle curve look?

Moderators for other websites, even though they're unpaid, walk a fine line when posting direct links to the website they moderate for. This line can even be extended to zealous owners who actively promote their speaker or whatever especially when cursory examination of the the other forum(s) they post in indicate concerted and coordinated efforts to engage in getting the word out, i.e. marketing.

Whether Curtis' post was reported by a competitor, someone who fancies themselves as a competitor because they've opened up a lemonade stand, an owner of a different product, a forum member, or even a moderator, who knows? I guess Curtis will be a tad more careful in the future.

What the towers have going for them aside from appearance is an owner who actually knows something about speaker design, deals with quality suppliers, and has the tools and knowledge how to use them to design well regarded and performing speakers. This is in pretty stark contrast to other speaker brands who call themselves designers but in reality are like some folks that call themselves plumbers.

I just thought its an obvious assumption that direct competitors and yes, maybe die hard fans of direct competitors of these new towers would have maliciously reported for the pictures to be deleted. I don't have proof for my assumptions, I'm just using my common sense.

I would add that my view is that both Jim S. and David F. are gentlemen and good businessmen. As such, they know not to engage in petty competitor bashing. That said, they cannot control the actions of everyone they sell speakers to who become "rabid fanboys". It should not reflect on either company but the individuals themselves. Rant over.

It's still an assumption, and a pretty big one...although now you've included "die hard fans," so that could be anyone. Common sense and assumption usually aren't used together in the same thought process. But hey, it could have been anyone I suppose. I'm betting a competitor fan or a hater. It is technically abiding by the rules to do so, but I didn't think anyone actually took time to watch closely enough; I just don't see what the big deal is. To each their own I suppose.

Absolutely agree. Definitely not Jim...and I definitely did not mean to single out any one competitor.

I might be a bit more careful...

What is interesting, I was told recently by an Ascend "competitor" that he believes Dave/Ascend has skills, vendor relationships, and manufacturing capabilities(I guess that would fall under vendor relationships as well), that most of their competitors don't have. A very nice compliment from a competitor.

It is a big deal as some posters don't want to take time to log into other forums and register as members as I did just to be able to see photos of new speakers they may become interested in comparing to a number of highly regarded speakers in similar price range.

Ah...that's not what I was talking about. I meant it shouldn't be a big deal that Curtis was posting pictures here; I think he should be allowed to.

On a positive note, I encourage all new Tower owners to post their impressions as well as speaker pics in this thread for potential owners to collect valuable info during the decision making process. This would hopefully put an end to the shenanigans

You need to post high quality shots of your set!

Thanks! Yes they are the hand rubbed piano black. The finish is very impressive but prone to dust etc. I run them full range in 2ch with no port noise I've ever heard and I do crank them on occasion

thanks, i would crank them too

as i research speakers, those towers seem like a good deal .

without going full custom or spending more$$, i haven't seen any others with the same quality of components and build to match.

With other Towers now being shipped, you might want to try and meet up with an owner to hear a pair for yourself. Post where you live, and hopefully someone local will chime in. They are a great speaker and tough to beat for the price.

Great setup mm520. That finish is truly impressive. I'm hoping the step down high gloss black are as appealing to the eye.

Thank you. Since those pics I've replaced the proceed amp with a Parasound A21 and also use a PS Audio Dac3 off the Touch. I'm sure the gloss black will look phenomenal and maybe will require less dusting!

I don't think you'd lose that bet Curtis..... Having owned Energy RC30's....I've recently become a Sierra 1 NrT owner, they are without a doubt IMHO a better speaker and the RC's were no slouch....
