kinect extension cable

what type of cable do I need and can I get it at monoprice? I am using a front projection setup.

Hate to be a whiney little b*tch but this xbox is killing me. I bought the 4gb Kinect bundle since I don't want/need to store anything. First off can't do hd since my hdtv only does component and the silly xbox comes with a proprietary connection and only cables for composite? I thought this was an hd gaming system? so I have to buy an extra cable for component. Then the composite cable stops working (TV working fine) so now i get audio but not video, don't know if its the cable or system.

Take it up to the projector room won't work on one hdmi cable that works fine with everything else, then try another cable and it works but then the kinect cable is not usb so I can't use any existing extensions I have.....

Would it really kill microsoft to just use standard connections like every other piece of electronics I have bought?

then whats up with the seprate power brick with loose connections, geesh, seems like a fire hazard.

ok rant over.

Halo better be worth it because my ps3 is killing it on first impressions.

ps3 doesnt give u component cables anymore eiither, only composite so... not such a big deal afterall, same case with the wii, only composite, component costs extra these days, they figure most use hdmi by now so they figured why should they include it if they dont have to..

Actually the PS3 was always composite and never offered component. So not sure what the OP is tripping about since he stated he has had a PS3.

yea that was my main point, he says it like the 360 is the only one offering only composite these days lol, the wii didnt offer component EVER and charge 40 bucks for the cable, people still buy it like crazy.. lol its really not a big deal, the OP is having probs with his kinect though ,thats where he has a problem.

...I bought the 4gb Kinect bundle...

You have two options:

1) Buy the proprietary extension cable (USB + power) made for Kinect. It's expensive though ($49), and is only 10'. I don't think monoprice has it, but you can get it at any gaming store. The advantage is that you don't need a separate power source.

2) Get a USB repeater cable. This is cheaper, and you can get one at monoprice (16' cable or 32' cable) for $8-10. Unfortunately, though, since you bought the bundled system, your Kinect did not come with a power supply. That will cost you about $40 (I think).

I got the 16' repeater cable from monoprice and it works great. Depending on how long of an extension you need, it may be your only option.

I need an extra 15 feet so I need two microsoft extensions $100 nice.

or cheaper option is getting the usb adapter powered kinect deally that comes when you buy the kinect sensor by itself, $36 plus a repeater usb cable I don't think either are in stock now of course.

Does anyone know if I can use the usb output for the kinect even though my slim console has a dedicated kinect output?

Wii doesn't have component outputs because its not HD
PS3 does not have any SONY only cables needed
My xbox has two special microsoft connections a/v outs and Kinect sensor
PS3 worked flawlessly for several years
Xbox slim broke in 2 days

Not a fanboy but My xbox experience has been the perfect storm of problems

And I'm not even sure if you can chain them together like that. Anyone try this?

Yeah, they're out of stock at the MS store at least. I am wondering if someone on here has one they don't need... maybe they would sell it to you cheap.

Yes, just make sure you are using one of the USB ports on the back of the Xbox. Also, I'd recommend getting the repeater cable, just to be safe.

I don't know about the PS3, but the Wii does have a proprietary av port on the back side, and you can get Wii component cables for it.

What happened to your slim? Did you get it replaced?

Good luck!

I'd sell that cable. I had a slim already and don't need that one at all.

GO to gamestop and get a used component cable for the xbox 360. they are only $9.99

it seems like you're trying to find the worst deals possible to make your life as miserable as possible.

you can buy wii component cables. heck, i even have component cables for my xbox1.

the 360 used to come with a component cable but now that HDMI is more popular, it doesn't come with one. Sure, it sucks if you only have a component TV but component-only HDTVs are fading from memory. you can buy a component cable for 360 for dirt cheap. I saw one at a used game store for $4.99.

you don't need to buy official MS extensions for your kinect. get the kinect power supply and a standard USB extension and be done with it.

i know your personality type. you're a complainer. but just chill out, dude. you'll give yourself a heart attack.

Thanks guys

Kurtibird you are right that powered piece will be what I need for the theater room. Thanks for verifying it will work off of my usb ports on the slim.

Got a replacement tonight and the console seems to be fine I swapped in the new composite cable setup and its working and the kids are playing right now.

I should of mentioned I ordered the composite cable setup a few days ago. I live out in the sticks so I typically just order stuff.

You mean you ordered component right?

The red worm is mailing me a powered usb kinect setup thanks!

to start off with a more positive note the extended fam loved the kinect big hit over thanksgiving vacation.

fun and games continue though..... So I ordered the component cable setup, I thought from the picture the audio and video cables were seperate wires, nope 1.5 foot whips for each connected to a 6 foot or so cable. So audio inputs will only reach the tv. The tv has a monitor a/v out, but it only works for antenna inputs. since why on earth would you want to take the sound through the tv on the way to a receiver, only if you have an xbox 360

The component cables are also available very cheap at amazon. I bought an extra set for the rare occasions when I move my (non-HDMI) 360 to another TV. Worth the $10 to save the hassle.

Sewell Direct has a USB Extension Cable that does this and they even have a video that shows 4 16' extension cables daisy chained together with the Kinect. The video shows it working perfectly and everything hooked up with 64' of extension. Would be great for any projector set up.

Here is the link: Kinect Extension Cable

FYI: chaining two 10' ($49) Microsoft kinect extension cables to reach 20' does not work. These cables cannot be chained to reach longer distances, so if your projector is more than about 10' away from the xbox, you will need to have an active usb cable extension and sensor power adapter (the latter doesn't come with the Xbox 360S + kinect bundle, so those people that bought the bundle will have to buy the ~$35 adapter separately).

I tried chaining two 10' kinect extension cables and it does not work, so I'm sending them back to Microsoft.

I too have a projector setup in my theater room, and bought the repeater cable from Amazon. Had to jump on this site to find out why I could not get the cable connected to my kinect unit. Since my xbox is the 4gb kinect bundle, I'l have to buy the powered adapter below as well? Then the repeater cable will connect to the usb cord of that powered adapter?

Thanks
