Top Gear on History Channel HD - Page 7

I've seen a few episodes of top gear usa on bbc 3 and although not as enjoyable as top gear I must say it's not nearly as bad as some of the posts here would have you think. I've actually been catching up on episodes i'd missed on the iplayer which shows I must have enjoyed it!

Well, I guess it's good at least it was "original" Content. Did the UK ever get the Aerostar?

You know I have to say, when this show first came out it was horrible because they tried too hard to copy the BBC version (which I *love* and watch fanatically). The show and the hosts were trying to be something they were not, and it showed. They were trying to do all of the segments (news, hot lap with Stig, SIARPC, car review, challenges, etc) and it seemed so forced and artificial.

Now however, with the exception of the SIARPC and hot lap with Stig, they've gone to the full-show serial competition where the three of them are involved in one adventure for the entire show. MUCH better, and different enough where they can stand on their own. I think each host has finally settled into being themselves which is a good thing. Now, the SIARPC and the Stig laps seem even more out of place though. Get rid of those two segments and just make it a full hour three-way challenge/adventure and I think the show could make it. I know I'm still watching.

Now that the good TG is done for the season I have to try to like this show... It was... going then they showed up at the mistery celeb's place... :sigh:

Pianoman, I agree, it became more watchable. Not get rid of "Top Gear" label, and it will become a decent car show. Because, you know, there is only one real Top Gear.

I LOLed at the ending heartily.

I can't believe I'm saying this but they are getting better! Now if only that nerd can spare us his constant "this is so gross", fainting etc.

How is that different to TGUK? The singular adventure whether it be racing across Japan or snow driving through Sweden has been a TGUK staple since it was relaunched.

Seems to me the only reason they don't have more segments is because they can't get the cars for them. Which is why this week was another budget challenge and was again another segment that TGUK did years ago.

TGUK has the same (or very close) segment structure every week, which works really well. A competition/challenge is broken up over the hour with the other segments cut in between. TGUS started that way but eventually dropped all of the other segments (they don't do news, single car reviews, etc). This was a good thing. The show starts right with a three-way challenge with no real intro like there is on TGUK. So with no other segments breaking up the action, it seems weird 3/4 of the way into the hour to switch to a SIARPC and an interview and then go back to end of the challenge.

And yes, I kinda rolled my eyes when I saw the challenge this week because of seeing the one TGUK did with the limos several seasons ago. However, it was still pretty funny and unique on its own, and it worked.

Advertising breaks up the action pretty badly. And repeating the same stuff again after the break robs another minute from the show and is boring for me as a viewer.

This is ****ing hilarious. That's not the pain meds for my broken collar bone talking too. lol

Well, it's kinda hard to take the douche out of Foust so... they probably won't be THAT much of a major change.

This show is becoming more boring (if possible). Every episode seems to be about the cast selecting 3 junk vehicles and then using different excuses to destroy them (look at the past 2 episodes). If nothing changes, it may be time to delete this from my DVR schedule.

Agreed.

It's obvious the show is being put on a very limited budget (junk cars come pretty cheap).
And rightfully so, it never has been very good.

The cast ain't even on the same planet as the boys across the pond.

I agree that this season has mostly been a waste of time. I'm also tired of the same old 'let's trash some cars' stories every week.

I still don't think the cast is all that bad, but it's obvious that their budget is so limited they can't do half of what TGUK does.
