I felt the same way. The US top gear, felt like a UK version wannabe.

In my opinion it would have been better, if they took queues from the UK version but went in their own direction.

I don't like that this show is simply called Top Gear. instead of Top Gear America or some such like the rest of them with Top Gear Australia and top Gear Russia. Also like original Pop Idol, Canadian Idol, American Idol, Australian Idol, Music Idol, etc. I guess they went with it like "the office". but in its current form it sort of diminishes New Top Gear.

turned it on late and caught about 5 min of them in some battle to beat a gondola to the top of a mountain. It was ridiculousness... horribly spliced together shots of normal driving and closed road drifting.

turned it off for something better. 1 and a few min and done with this dribble.

Tanner Foust ...

Please no Nascar in Top Gear, get rid of Rutledge.

I keep on forgetting to watch this or set my DVR to record it. But from the sounds of things here, I'm not really sure if I want to remember.

It's been getting progressively better with each episode but Tanner, Ruttledge, and Adam still don't have all that much chemistry.

I'm hoping the History Channel will keep it around long enough to let it improve. They're already learning - I don't know if you noticed but they now edit down the celebrity laps to a quick 10 seconds or so of film. In the first two epsodes it was about double that and was truly intolerable.

If the hosts don't develop some kind of chemistry quick there need to be some cast changes or this show is doomed to an extremely short life-span. Part of the Brits' charm is their unabashedly "homer" attitude toward automotive things either British or European. That and their heartfelt belief that every other person in America is occupied in shooting everyone else. None of the Americans sound like any of them know or like the others well enough to take a shot at one or both of their cohosts.

Along with chemistry, the hosts need to develop some personality other than making fun of each other. If you had to describe these guys, how would you do it? Probably just physical appearance. The guy with the black hair or the Southern guy or the Drifter guy. You can't differentiate them by their behavior.

Agree that the lack of personality with these guys is really letting the show down. Granted they have a tough act to follow here, but it's obvious that everything with these three is forced because they can't make it interesting on their own.

I don't mind the various stunts so far, but the guys just put me to sleep.

An entire segment on a Ford pickup truck that rides like a Cadillac and has a switch to make it even louder... whatever.

Why didn't they just hire Mike Rowe and completely sellout?

You obviously haven't watched the BBC version that this one tries to copy - it's not just a commercial, it's a critique. They're not fawning over every car/truck like Motorweek does.

My take so far, is I have seen this before. It is like a re-run with different hosts.

It is ok, but the UK version is far superior.

Motorweek IS an extended commercial for the cars and trucks they cover. Pretty sad, actually, but I'm sure the industry loves it.

Top Gear is not, but the current hosts are killing it. I think all of us fans of the BBC version were afraid this would happen to the US version, and it has.

Dear god... someone can this show. Or blow up the set...

Thankfully, the real deal was back on today. And will be on again on Boxing Day as well.

I've been trying really hard to like this show, but it's simply no good.

The last episode the douche rich racer called the chubby one weird like 3-4 times, and in different segments. There were also some weird cut always and long pauses of awkwardness, probably leading to those cuts.

The Italian guy isn't so bad, but he seems the most at home in front of the camera and seems to be the only one acting naturally and not fluffing it up for producers.

The show is, frankly, stale.
