Hey guys...we need a little rallying here... - Page 73

Erich,

You are the "Go To" guy in SEOS acquisition, IMHO.

I don't think a mold seam just into the conical section of a waveguide would be perceived by my ears.

Well I'm far from an expert. I'm just helping to get it done.

With fiberglass and a gloss finish, I think it would be a little difficult to get a nice smooth seam. Both pieces would almost have to be cut and or sanded flat so they would fit together perfectly. You'd probably be able to see the seam because these aren't very deep waveguides. Not that it matters too much.

But like you said, I'm not sure it could be heard.

This week I am going to be working on the SEOS-10 and trying to make the Dayton RS28F rear mountable. I'll try to get some close up photos of the throat so you can see what happens when it's widened a little bit.

Hi Erich:
Congratulations on getting your new website up! I can't imagine how much work all this represents and thanks for that.

When will we be able to order SEOS waveguides? Like others, I ordered AE mids off the group buy and hope to have both them and the SEOS sometime in December. Is that what you expect to happen?

thanks! I bookmarked it this time
I wouldn't bookmark it.......the /template will be removed shortly. As in today.

The pallet from Poland is in Cincinnati and the smaller package is suppose to be in New Jersey.

Also, the new CNC company should be ready to start designing things in a week.

The current CNC company is delivering 300 flat packs to me on Thursday! Half and half of the Overnight Sensation MTM's and Naon Neos.

I think they were only $18.50 each! 3/4" mdf, Roundovers, recessed drivers, rabbet joints, bracing, etc. Can't beat that!!! I normally pick them up myself, but there's a chance of rain and I only have open bed trucks. I don't think they charge much for delivery anyway.

I might have to charge $1 for packing material.

Gotta go to work......the season is finally winding down, then I can spend more time on the audio stuff. Just one more landscaping job.

By the way, how did you guys find that "/template" page!!?? Only a few guys knew about it to test the ordering process!

I was wondering the same thing. I didn't disclose.

The site is looking good though.

After JackNC posted congratulations about your new site, I just went to my bookmarked diysoundgroup.com and there was the template. Didn't order anything though.

Naw, I set up the accounts to pay year round.

Well, not the installs, but the maintenance is set up like that. This year has been a busy working year with all the rain.....so I'm actually glad it's finally slowing down.

The only thing I have to worry about through the winter is snow removal on the commercial accounts.

By the way, I'm a little embarrassed about putting that site up without much on it yet. I still need to get pictures of the other boxes and parts, but it will improve over the next couple months Obviously pricing and all that stuff will be done like before, even though it now looks more like a "store". I just didn't have a choice, it was getting hard to track everything.

To be fair, it shows up in pretty much every horn out there, but I wouldn't say the hardcore OS profile designs are showing the least amount.

Maybe you missed it the first time, but can you elaborate?

AFAIK they're not easily measured.

Here's something interesting; jzagaja is working on what I believe is the correct ideal phase plug for CD's.

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/group...ml#post2758450

If I understand correctly, anything that results in the wavefront varying from the ideal generates HOM's, and the closer to the throat the worse, so if Jack knew what to measure for he could see how well it worked.

"what I believe is the correct ideal phase plug for CD's."

how is that better than this?

Beats me; maybe it's not.

Cool driver, is it current?

Anyway, Geddes has said that there's no CD's with phase plugs that are right for OS G.

The pallet from Poland finally came in today. I unloaded it all, but only brought one of the new sizes back to my house. I had 3 pallets of speaker flat packs delivered today as well, so it was busy.

Anyway, here's the SEOS-6. Neat little bugger:

I love it

Yeh, the color looks good too. It's a cream color. I'll try to get photos of the red and black ones this week end while they're getting boxed up.

The only new size I haven't seen is the SEOS-8, and that should be here next week.

NOT that i'm not jumping the gun a bit here, but what I was thinking of..

was a modified fibreglass SEOS-15 to have the reverse roundover/curve of the JMLC horns, designed for above-driver placement rather than in-box placement.

Too many thoughts running through my head from now until those TD15s come in

What was finally decided. Any word on the US FG SEOS?

I too like the appearance of the free standing waveguide. I'm curious as to the level of finish of the backside of the SEOS. It would be nice to have separate bass bins so that you could experiment with various horns and waveguides without having to construct/modify an integrated cabinet.

So is the reverse roudover/curve necessary to enable the SEOS to be freestanding? Exactly how does the baffle interact with the WG? I'm in for the SEOS 18 and the TD15m. It would be nice if suitable bass bin flatpacks were available. If a freestanding SEOS 18 isn't feasible, I'll probably construct a separate box/baffle to hold the unit.

Wayne has summarized many of his responses to questions in one place. We get the benefit of that.

It wasn't necessarily going to be a US company.

That "rush order" I put in to the guys in Poland for pairs of SEOS models is sitting in customs. The entire pallet beat it by over a week now. It was a rush order, not rush shipping.

The box is not big and has about 18-20 waveguides in it. Like 20" x 22" x 20" or something like that.

It was about $385 to ship! Whatever. So now they called yesterday and said after customs fees, document fees, taxes, etc, etc.....it would be another $255.

I spoke with the guys in Poland and they said they also had to pay some extra fees. I hope this isn't going to cost nearly $700 to get these here!

The entire pallet is around $1800 after all fees. Se they need to really explain $700 for a small box.

"Hmmm hey Larry take a look at this, these could be bomb parts or something for terrorists....... We better call in an expert, these horn looking things are suspicious looking. Better hold Em until
we're sure...........".

Meanwhile $700 later.....

That sort of thing happens all the time with shipping to Canada. I have themost luck with the cheapest First Class shipping. Any UPS or fast shipping type will ride me for all kinds of customs fees. It's like if it's cheap shipping, it must be worthless and harmless. If the shipping is fast and expensive it must be something taxable and/or requires extreme scrutiny.

My bad I thought you were talking to local companies.
We have more waveguides and options.

I picked up the small box from the shipping company. Wow, you should see that box. Not one hard piece of cardboard left on it. But incredibly it looks like the parts inside made it okay! I'll post pictures.

Anyway, some samples from the pallet have been shipped out to various people. Plus, some people did order them on the last group buy. I boxed those up last night.

Last month I spoke with Autotech about making cheaper models. We went back and forth on some different options. They made a pair to try out, that's what took a little longer. They're made from liquid, but not urethane. I'll go into more details later and pricing.

The new samples I have are for the SEOS-12. They feel very very solid and weight about 2.5 lbs if I recall.

I will get pricing from them on the cheaper models, and we will have to make a decision within about a week to go with these, or straight to plastic. I'm ready for either method.

I say about a week because I want to get this project done so we can have these parts in large quantities before the end of the year. Plus we need to keep interest in this project. But with speaker designs coming, I think interest will grow.

You can order any size you want RIGHT NOW but the cheaper ones that we've worked on for large quantities revolve around the SEOS-12. I'll get photos of the new sample later today.

If the price is posted elsewhere I apologize, but what is the cost for these "expensive" versions?
