Thank you for the response. Did you have a chance to compare the drivers firsthand?
FR charts look very good but I am not sure this is enough info to draw conclusions.

The Big Raffle is Done

I decided to go a little nuts with the raffle this evening. Prizes listed here.

Tonight I took my Dad, his wife, my sister, and niece out to dinner for Father's Day. I called my sister earlier and reminded her to bring all the names my niece cut out for the individual drawings.

Here's how it went down. She dumped all the names for people that ordered 7+ waveguides on the table and my niece picked one out. Then, that name plus the rest from 7+ were added to the "3-6 pre-ordered" group. Those were dumped on the table, one name was drawn. On the 1-2 preordered group I did something slightly different to get more winners and give away all the prizes in that section.

RESULTS:

Steven W***y wins the "Pre-ordered 7+" and picks from a new Maelstrom 21" subwoofer from the "Vegas Sub sale", or a JBL 2242H subwoofer from the JBL group buy, or 2 Anarchy tapped horns with 2 new Tang Band 6.5" subwoofers from that group buy.

Peter W***h wins the "Pre-ordered 3-6" and picks from 2 of the original compression driver samples, or 3 pro JBL 8330 surround speakers from the JBL group buy, or 2 Nano Neo speaker kits with all components.

John K***y wins the "Pre-ordered 1-2" and picks from 2 of the original SEOS waveguide samples, or 1 MFW subwoofer, or 2 custom 10" Eminence pro woofers.

Here's where I added some extra drawings.

I took the left over names from the 7+ and she drew someone to pick one of the left over prizes from the 3-6 category that Peter W doesn't pick. I then took left over names from 3-6 and drew a name to pick a left over price from the 1-2 category. Then dumped all the names together and drew one last time to pick the final prize left from the 1-2 category.

Basically........3 more winners. cool.gif

So here we go.

Brian M****r gets to pick one of the left over prizes from the 3-6 category that Peter W passes on.

Robert C*****o gets to pick one of the left over prizes from the 1-2 category that John K passes on.

Bill S******r gets the remaining prize left in the 1-2 category.

I reserve the right to give more audio things away in the near future!biggrin.gif

I haven't matched up screen names with real names yet, but I will try to this evening or tomorrow.

I think I have a few MFW subwoofers left over from the group buy that had some really ugly boxes. or front gaskets that weren't centered. I sat them aside last year and they eventually got hidden by gobs of flat packs. I'm going to check how many I have left and will likely draw more names from the entire pre-order list for those. I also have the components for some JBL pro surround speakers and other things that should get raffled for free as well. If I have a rain day this week, I'll start looking for the left over group buy stuff and raffle it all off. No better time than now.

Hmm I wonder how long a legal name change takes. Shoot, bet the office is closed.

Awesome!

That said, I honestly just don't have the room or the need for anything else DIY related right now. Once I get my SEOS/CD shipment and the TD15Ms show up I will be 100% wrapped up in the theater and need to focus on other projects around the house.

So I'd like to forfeit my spot in the raffle and let someone else who will put this stuff to good use get a shot at it.

Erich, thanks again for all the hard work on this! Can't wait to get the product in hand.

We all know what happened to SMX screens when Rubin turned it into a business. He stopped supporting the DIY crowd and prices doubled as he added a distrubuter network. Many e-mails now go unanswered. Great Product, I have one.

the odds of this business turning away from DIY community are slim given that the whole niche is centered around DIY. I am thinking PE rather than SMX.
it's OK if the prices go up, especially if it helps to get more designers on board. As it is, the products are probably underpriced anyway. And I am not sure it's reasonable to expect Erich or anybody else to do this work uncompensated. IMHO.

eek.gif Wooooo Hooooo! That's awesome. biggrin.gif

I haven't won anything since I was in 8th grade and that was a stereo from the school magazine drive. It's a good day. I suppose I had some good karma coming from towing 2 car loads of teenagers from revine out in the backwoods a couple weeks ago. Apparently they had been stuck for 2 days when I came upon them. Good thing I had tow cables with me. Not sure why they were so far out without 4wheel drives.

Thanks Erich, you the man!

Because teenagers are idiots.

I asked the same question Wayne Parham of Pi speakers. He basically seconded your opinion.
his comment on the FR overlay was that he's seen more unit-to-unit variation between drivers from the same manufacturer.

I am settled with DNA360 for my build.

Thank you!

Definitely interested in surrounds. Should be a fun thread.

Guys, I didn't get as much stuff boxed up over the weekend as I had hoped. I forgot it was Father's Day. I feel pretty bad about it.

I'm taking 90% of the day off tomorrow and all day on Wednesday to get things caught back up. I'm also going back down to my shop this evening to box up some more items. I think there's at least 75 packages that need to be boxed up at this point, and literally 400+ emails to go through. No doubt many of those are people that pre-ordered telling me if they want matte or gloss finish.

I'm pretty well caught up at work except removing some shrubs and trees at 2 future landscaping install places. So that should give me at least 3 full days to get orders back under control.

I've matched up real names with screen names from the drawing and will be contacting everyone soon. I think there was at least one person that already got their order that also won the raffle. So if by some chance they pick an item I already shipped, obviously I'll refund that amount.

Mrkazador, if you have time, can you get a photo of your matte finished waveguides from about a foot or so away so people can see that they're okay? I'm getting a lot of people asking if they should change their order because they aren't sure about the matte finish. But there's really nothing wrong with it.

Taking a photo of a very lightly textured matte finish from 1" away in the sun makes things look a bit different than they really are. If you don't have the time to do that, I'll try to get some close up photos posted tomorrow. It would be better coming from other forum members though, so maybe someone else can post some photos. If I take a photo and post it, people might think I chose the best one I had for the picture, which I wouldn't do. I did a lot of work to make sure these were really nice waveguides and the very first photos didn't do them justice in my opinion.

A lady friend did help me bubble wrap the first ones that went out. She checked the front finish after I checked the tabs around the throat. There's always a chance that one got by that didn't look quite right, who knows. But so far, most look pretty much the same. If you have one that doesn't look quite right, please just let me know.

One will be the JBL 12" pro woofer. I'm thinking the other will be the FaitalPro 12". Possibly the B&C. Still waiting on one to decide.

If anyone has any input on whether it should be the Faital Pro or a B&C, just let me know.

For what it is worth it looked like the AETD's from the group buy is very close.

I think it might be worth waiting for some of the AETD12's.

Am I being overly optimistic?

I just got an email from AE too.smile.gifeek.gif. I specified 8 ohms for my TD15m's. I guess this is the best option.confused.gif I suppose what matters is what load your amp prefers.

After considering a couple 15" woofer options, I too, am almost certain to be using the AE TD12M. In a largish enclosure (120L) with a pair of PE 10" passive radiators, I think I might be able to get the TD12M down to just about 40Hz at -3db. Well, according to some sims at least. I hope to find out for sure.
