Hey guys...we need a little rallying here... - Page 228

So I'm interested in putting together a full SEOS 7 speaker system. The Sentinel 15's intrigued me, but I have limited room for the center channel. I can only go 9" high, 13" deep, and ~26" lengthwise.

What would be good designs I could use that would be timbre matched? The surrounds would be 8 or 10" woofer sizes.
9" high would be too short for any waveguide speaker I can think of unless you put the waveguide right between two 6.5" woofers. But that's not a good idea. Maybe there's a chance of that with the smaller 8" waveguide, I'm not really sure.

Even 8" woofers need a box that's 9.5", so it would be tough.

Try phantom center? That's what I'm going to do until I do an AT projector screen.

Dayton Audio RS125T-8 5" should fit under the Seos-12, Daniel style wise, just even closer together and right out towards the edges of the baffle.

The waveguide is 6.5" tall. With 5" woofers, the box would still be about 12"-13" tall.

Oh bugger, nvm me, didnt think and switched depth and height redface.gif

How about a pair or single Dayton DS175-8 beside a Tang Band W3-881SI crossed around 450hz. I've been playing around with it and its a good application for it.

The center is the last place I'd skimp.

If I ran a center the way things are now, I would have to. I may just run a phantom center instead. I would rather have 2 SEOS fronts than none at all. Would be a nice upgrade over the JBL 190s that are currently there.

Yup. Doesn't perform like a SEOS though.

I agree, Phantom would be the way to go in your situation.

Erich,

I know you stated the birch sub flat packs aren't going to happen... But are there going to still be other size sub flat packs than what is currently listed on the site? Still plans for a 1cuft sub box?
I have some 4cuft models now, the rest should be cut on Tuesday. 3cuft is going to be done directly after that because the wood is coming in at the same time. The 1cuft and 1.25cuft will be done during the same run as the 3cuft.

Hi Eric,

How would I make the sealed/shorter Tempests?

Do you just cut the bottom off?

I am also considering making my own baffles from butcher block but that might be beyond my skill level

Contact EricH so he can send you a sealed front baffle (14.5 x 21") instead of the ported one.

Butcher Block! will make for a very stiff and rigid baffle.
I bought a slab of 1.5" thick maple butcher block for a kitchen island. I did some routing to the underside for supports. Routing this stuff was quite the workout (I mean challenge)...

What about just doing multiple passes?

Mine would be beach so not as hard and onl 1 1/8
post #6830 of 7639
Multiple passes were indeed the key - that damn Maple is just very hard (a good thing for a kitchen worksurface!

I've never used a router and don't own one yet... nervous on what to buy
post #6832 of 7639
Router? Hard to go wrong with an industry-standard porter-cable. Sure, you can buy cheaper ones (or more expensive) but be sure you get one that fits almost every accessory made for a router.

http://www.amazon.com/Porter-Cable-693LRPK-Fixed-Router-Plunge/dp/B00006411C/ref=sr_1_2?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1359599656&sr=1-2&keywords=porter+cable+690

Also get an inexpensive 1/2" bit set....not saying this is the best but it probably beats what you find at your local big box store.

http://www.amazon.com/MLCS-8369-2-Inch-Carbide-tipped-30-Piece/dp/B001NXC6ZA/ref=sr_1_3?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1359599751&sr=1-3&keywords=router+bit+sets+1+2+shank

Overkill if all you will ever do is a couple of speaker boxes....but real easy to justify if you get the DIY bug which can infect you for a lifetime.

Just make sure to get a plunge type not just a base router

+1...do NOT get a fixed base unless the router comes with both.
I bought a base router first and figured I would just drill a starter hole when cutting circles. No bueno. You really need to cut them in multiple passes. Thats where a plunge router comes in. I do 1/4" at a time with an upspiral bit.

I've been using my Bosch for a while which is a forum favorite at router forums. It's got plenty of power and features and is priced reasonably, I can recommend it:

http://www.amazon.com/Bosch-1617EVSPK-4-Horsepower-Variable-Collets/dp/B00005RHPD/ref=sr_1_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1359642471&sr=1-1&keywords=bosch+1617

Oh, and +2 on the MLCS router bit set, killer for the price.

Hey Erich

I've tried to contact you over PM, but no luck. You've probably got a mountain of messages from everyone to work through!

I wondered if you were in a position to ship to the UK? I'd like to build three Fusion-10 Max. I could always source the Delta-10a from here and, if I had to, do without your lovely CNC baffles to keep shipping down.

I would be sure to brag about them on UK forums once built :

Pretty please !

Eek a little pricey but guess it's a long term solution buy...
