Does anyone of you have the same problem with HDMI-CEC, in that even with the HDMI(Limited) setting, the Oppo switches on my Samsung TV, when according to the setting description in the manual it should not?

Quote:

HDMI 1 (Limited) - HDMI CEC is enabled on HDMI 1 output, but the BDP-93 will only respond to playback control commands. It will not respond or issue power on/off and input selection commands. Use this mode if you do not want the automatic setup function to turn on/off your devices.

Is there any chance that this player will ever be able to stream BD-ISO over network? I know it will do this via attached storage but I'm using a Dune player and WHS via SMB.

It doesn't do it today, what it will do in the future is unknown. So if this is a factor in a purchasing decision, purchase the player for what you know it can currently do.

That's what I thought. I love what the Dune can do but I miss the true untouched video and 4:2:2 colorspace option of the Oppo. I had a BDP83 but sold it. I'm sure another Oppo is in my future regardless.

I check this forum every day, hoping I'll see a post about new firmware that supports SMB sharing, or that someone has found some other way to stream .iso. I love my BDP-93 and don't miss my HTPC at all...I just wish I didn't have to have a drive always plugged in to it's USB port.

Oppo, please include now Apple Lossless Codec as its free!!!!!! Many of the Oppo users have Mac running iTunes with CDs stored in Apple lossless Codec format. The playback of these files would be really nice and a big bonus.

It's not really up to Oppo, other than they can request it. It's up to chipset makers, in this case MTK, to include support. It's more likely to show up in future revisions of decoder chips, but its not impossible either.

On a side note: I see in a banner ad at the top of the forum where Dolby Labs is giving away a BDP-93 along with a Transformers movie.

Ahh... the company we keep.

When do you guys think they will release the new models for the 93.

I don't know if I should wait for the new model or grab this or the 53FD of pioneer.
Signs point to there being no new model any time soon (say within the next 6 months, which is about as far out as anyone ought to try to guess with electronics like this). For example, Oppo hasn't been tipping off new models at industry trade shows. Firmware will change of course in the 93 and 95 but that's within the same model (and free).

Hi Ornette,

Indeed I noticed this exact problem just yesterday !
I always like to switch on my audio gear for at least 1/2 hour before listening, and was getting tired of my Samsung TV always switching on (it's very useful when watching a movie though), so I set the Oppo 95EU to HDMI (limited):
My TV still switches on, BUT it doesn't select the right HDMI input !!!
Quite annoying, so now I turned the HDMI CEC completely of in the Oppo.
Must be a bug...

Regards from your Belgian neighbour

Thanks for the confirmation, michdys

Indeed, the TV is switched on, but no input change takes place. It also does not switch off when the Oppo does, which happens with the full HDMI-CEC setting.

So it looks like a bug, the "Power on" command being sent by the Oppo when it should not.

I note that both of you are using Samsung displays. I wonder if there might be a problem in the Samsungs such that it powers ITSELF up when it sees the source turn on (i.e., when a source becomes present as an HDMI CEC device) even though the Oppo isn't actually sending a power up command to the Samsung? Are there CEC function settings in the Samsung that might affect that?

You're probably right Bob,
I have an older Samsung BD player that even though I had CEC functions turned off on my display the BD player would turn on when the Plasma was turned on. I quickly realized I had the CEC turned off in the plasma but not the Samsung...
Thanks Bob for your input.

When I switch HDMI-CEC (Anynet+) off on the Samsung TV, then the TV does not switch on when the Oppo does, as would be expected. Of course the other HDMI-CEC functions (playback commands) don't work either.

The HDMI-CEC settings on the Samsung are limited to two:

Anynet+: On/Off
Auto Turn off: On/Off (When the Samsung is turned off, it turns off player, and vice-versa). I have set it to "Off"

Send OPPO Tech Support an email on what you have found and they'll check it out.

Ornette and Michdys: I have an older Sammy lcd, it also has cec but I turned all Anynet off and have never had a problem with tv, Oppo, or my AVR. Depending on the series of tv sent for EU use, then it could be a difference in that and what was made for the US, depending on your model no. of tv.

It will be nice to have a Plex app to see movies. You can put PMS (Plex Media Server) on a Mac/Pc/Linux machine and use the Plex app on the Oppo to see all your movies with descriptions,...
I have this on my Samsung TV and its really nice, and usefull.

Can i think that will be this kind of implementation? I mean, Plex/XBMC or similar app.

Thnks.

OT, but you guys might want to check out this: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...postcount=1362. It has nothing to do with our BDP-93s, but seems to solve the problem (RE: network streaming of ".iso" files).
I just installed latest FW that added Pandora. I'm a little confused, having never signed up for internet radio b4.

All I want is the free service...do I sign up with the Oppo player using the activate button? or sign up using PC and then have the Oppo connect to it using activate button?

Sorry for the simpleton question.
Anyone know what the bitrate is for Pandora and if there are options to upgrade to Pandora One with 192K bits?

* High Quality Streaming: When listening on the web, experience 192K bits per second audio. That's the highest quality streaming experience on the Internet. More bits means better sounding music.

There's no inherent problem streaming ISOs over a network, it's just that you can't do it over DLNA -- you have to use SMB/NFS/etc as that player and many others do, but which unfortunately the Oppo can't (yet?).

As Pandora explains as part of What are the benefits of upgrading to Pandora One?

High Quality 192Kbps audio, on your computer only:
o on our website www.pandora.com and
o when using the Pandora One Desktop Application.

All other devices including the OPPO 93/95 get 2ch, 16 bit, 44.1KHz regardless of a Pandora One membership.

I think the technology is too new to just drop it in yet...give it some time...ALAC tech that is..

So I'm getting "CD Quality" sound over Pandora on my 93? I have it on right now and it sounds pretty good, but if you asked I wouldn't say 16/44. I've had piano music on so it isn't a difficult type of music. I'll put on something a little more complex later and take a serious listen.
It's 16/44 but that doesn't mean it's CD quality because it's been lossily compressed to 128kbps. It sounds pretty good but you're right, not CD quality.
I didn't really think so. But good enough for background music in any case. It sounds better than Music Choice over cable, or XM over DirecTV. I still prefer FM over the air, when you have a station that isn't pumping up the volume, compressing the sound and overloading the signal. But I still like vinyl & tubes too...

So I recently purchased the BDP-93 after reading all of the rants and raves and don't get me wrong I do love the player. I've had it about 3-4 months. just recently though I noticed that audio especially at the beginning of previews or the beginning of an intro to a movie is delayed. Not sure I'm using the correct description.

Basically, when let's say the 20th Century Fox intro comes on, for a split second there's no audio and it then it comes on with a bit of a pop. It's subtle but enough to be an annoyance. I do have the latest firmware. Anyone else experience this?

Bleh, this is why I hate to get something more 'high end'. It seems the more high end you get with components, the more tempermental they become.
I've never ever had issues with my PS3.

My 93 does the same.

Depending on the speed of your HDMI handshakes, you will see a delay in the audio acquisition and amplification. For example, with my combination of equipment, it takes roughly 7 seconds for the video and audio to be handshook when the resolution changes (such as from the OPPO logo to the Previews).

Audio handshakes take on average 3-5 seconds to be acquired.
