Will I be able to send my computer screen through the BDP-93 to watch past TV episodes?

Your current choices are Netflix and Blockbuster streaming services, with perhaps more to come in the future. If you have video saved on your computer as media files, you can serve them yourself with DLNA.

Well finally got around to hooking it up. Have the following setup:

OPPO 93 HDMI 1 out to HD Fury III to tv. Works fine with the limited BD titles I have played so far. Need the HD Fury to convert the HDMI to component for my aging 1080i component in RPTV.

HDMI 2 out to my Denon 4806 via LPCM. No problems with SACD playback. Did not and do not plan to use HDMI 1 to my Denon.

Was able to play a FLAC file from a USB thumb drive that I downloaded from HD Tracks dot com. I converted the same file to apple lossless with XLD, and even though it showed up in the browser, it would not play.

I was also able to connect to my wireless, and it found my NAS, but not any file or directories. No server software running on it yet. Used for my backups

I set up the BDP 93 using the same cables that I used with my BDP83. I sent the Hdmi 1 to my UMC-1 and from there to my projector and HDMI 2 to a sony TV. I get video only on the hdmi 1 and both video and sound thru the TV. I designated in the set up wizard primary Hdmi 1. I reversed the cables and Hdmi 2 provides sound thru the UMC1 and video while I still only get video to the TV. I dont get access to primary video output in the regular set up menu. In order to change video settings I have to reset factory default and start all over. Any suggestions

If I have a good DAC already, does the Oppo not have digital outs so I can skip its dac and use my separate one instead?

Does the whole downmix to stereo process in any way modify/degrade the signal, or is it kept in its purest form? I mean, comparing to a SACD / DVD-A player which is meant for high-end 2-ch. audio, is this downmix solution a disadvantage?

Thanks again for all the help!

See the FAQ: Why is Primary Output greyed out?

Does a DLNA server exist that allows streaming a podcast from a webpage to the BDP-93...or even an Xbox 360? I tried twonky manager and twonky beam but the Manager program closes automatically after 2 mins.

I want to stream this website: http://www.trancearoundtheworld.com/tatw/349

Thanks!

What was the extension on the file name?

Try the Oppo BDP-83 DLNA/UPnP thread.

I know Twonky server has features like that but I have not explored them.

Sounds like we did the same experiment...with the same results. I was able to play the FLAC, and the same tracks converted to WAV using MAX, but the Apple Lossless files (.mp4 extension) show up, but the Oppo just skips through them w/o actually playing them.

I have not tried an AAC compressed .mp4 version, since I am not interested in playing lossy files.

.m4a, just like the AAC file. I think in the apple lossless file , it is wrapped in the m4a.

The AAC compressed file worked fine

I'm not very familiar with how things work on Apple, so check me here:

Two .m4a files. One is AAC lossy and plays, the other is ALAC lossless and doesn't play.

I don't have an Apple lossless example in my test suite. Could you post a small example somewhere? I don't know if this is supposed to be supported or not.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case and have disconnected the optical.

I really wish Oppo had included dedicated 2 ch analog outputs on the 93. It would make things so much easier to use with my Zone2 2 ch configuration.

On the 93, using both HDMI outs (one to a MC pre, one to an LCD TV), can HDMI-1 be set to output MC (5.1) and HDMI-2 set to down-mix to 2ch, or is the downmix applied globally to both HDMI outs?

Using FL/FR anlaog outs and constantly switching from MC to down-mix is a PITA and not a working solution IMO.

I know its been discussed before but now that people have units in hand can someone confirm if the 93 will or will not strecth 2.35 content in 3d? There is another thread that vaguely suggests that they are accomplishing this task. Since that thread isn't an oppo 93 thread, I figured it would be best answered and explained here. Thanks!

When having the Nflix problem earlier, I did not even consider this an issue with BD Live. So, FYI, you may need to connect to the wifi, before booting the movie, if you plan on using BD Live.

You can bring up Setup and force the wifi reconnect that way while the disc is playing if you have to. That won't work for Netflix, but it's available during disc playback.

For watching what's on a computer, is there any reason that a DLNA server to the Oppo would be better than simply connecting the computer directly to the display (in my case, a projector, with the audio going through my AVR)? With Netflix, it looks like higher definition is available when going through the Oppo compared to the computer, but with Youtube, etc., is there any benefit to using the Oppo?

You could return it and wait for the BDP-95.

Downmix does not apply to HDMI at all. Only analog.

Just sent a PM with a link to some files. Let me know if it works. I plan to send to OPPO also.

I'm wondering whether subtitles are available for foreign films, or perhaps they are automatically turned on, with no option to turn them off.

As to quality, streaming over the 93 is MUCH better than streaming from a PC (connecting to the projector via RGB). Was PC streaming limited to 480i? Looks like it.

I thought I would bump this question from a few days ago in the event someone has an answer.

It's hard to advise. They will look and operate differently, but if you are happy with the computer connection then why not use it. On the other hand a lot of people have found DLNA easy to set up. It won't do everything a computer can do.

I'm running the FL/FR outs into the analog inputs of an older Yamaha receiver and did not use the down-mix setting but left it at the default setting. I'm not noticing any loss of information and the music quality sounds good to me. You might give that a try and see what you think. YMMV.

it does not. I know that you cannt do it on the ps3 either. I was able to rent the 3 movies on dvd and then watch them with the subtitles on. I also had the same problem.

In my current setup, I do have a computer connected to the projector via RGB. I'm getting a new PJ which lacks RGB, but it does have a component input, so I guess an adapter will work. Regarding DLNA, I think there may already be a server on my WD network drive (My Book World). At least, the Oppo is able to see and play MP3 files and a home video stored there.

What about foreign language films? Even if there is no option, you would think they would be automatically turned on for U.S. audiences.
it does with foreign films, but not with the red riding trilogy. you canask netflix to send you the disc. that is what I was able to do. sorry. I meant to asnwer ealier but the thread went too fast.

Thanks, Jacob. After two discs of Red Riding, I think I finally got used to the accent.

Just to clarify, however: with foreign films streamed to the Oppo, are you given an option to turn on subtitles, or are they on automatically and can't be turned off?
On the PS3 there is an option to add subtitle on some movies, not all of them. This has been introduced together with the 5.1 audio on the new firmware. I think that's what Grampa was asking. I believe the Oppo will have the new Netflix interface in near future.

Hi All

I finished my rack today and thought I would show you some pictures with the AV7005 and Oppo 93.
