Thank you hawkfan.

I own the Oppo atm and all I use it for is playback Blu-Ray discs. I m thinking about selling the Oppo and looking for a cheaper Blu-Ray player since I don t need any of the other features of the Oppo. Except there is one really really important feature the Oppo offers that another BR player needs to have: Dual Audio Output. The Oppo supports simultanously audio output over SPDIF and HDMI at the same time. The SPDIF sends the core dd/dts signal as output and the HDMI sends the dts-ma/true-hd signal as output. I need this feature for my D-Box setup (my D-Box decoder needs a SPDIF core feed and at the same time my receiver needs the lossless hdmi audio via HDMI).

I know the Dune B1 for example also supports this dual audio output feature but the B1 supports no 3D.

Anyone knows of a player that supports what I m looking for?

I don't know of one for less money than the OPPO, but I can't say that I have researched that particular feature.

I don't know of any myself either, but you should try posting your question here.

yeah, its all about timing..
I bought it at 3months old, for about $450 and after nearly 9months of use (sparingly) sold it for the same amount..

As others say, its a serious overkill for most of us.. and it being built like a tank, I dont want it to be built like a tank. It is not engaged in warfare is it?
It is going to sit on a shelf for 4 or 5 years, dont know why it has to be built like tank

I found it too big, too heavy.. and just too expensive for what I use it for. I am glad to get rid of it.

I am on a quest to seriously downsize my stereo equipment and the Oppo was the first to go. The next one on the list is a Denon 4806CI receiver.. too big too much for what I use it for..

I was looking for a small footprint receiver and settled on the Peachtree Nova and Marantz 1602 .. I havent installed the marantz yet, but the peachtree certainly sounds nice, although 2channel audio..

I regret to say that I fell into the trap of thinking that the 5.1 is better, then 7.1 and now 9.1.. I realized now that it just takes 2 good speakers and a nice receiver to enjoy high fidelity audio.. I dont need 9 channels. so out goes the Denon

so today, I sat down and ripped apart every component (I had over 8 components) and infinite wires behind them (aargh!)

Every cord, every box better have a serious reason for it to be present in my setup..

I thought they all did that. It's takes no special processing inside the player, so it ought to be easy/cheap to do.

They seem to have completely vanished in thin air without any explanation !!!

Off topic and the person was trying to sell their mod chip solution. AVS Forums has a strict no solicitation/promotion policy.

Utter rubbish :

1) Many people would be very interested in the matter of firmware rollback, or ISO support in future firmwares, so certainly not off topic !!!

2) I did not read 1 post were the guy was trying to sell his mod !!!

So better tell us you don't want to tell us the reason for the deletion instead of spreading lies...

Firmware is released every 2 to 3 months. I would not expect anything soon, or if there is a release, a minor firmware just to remove the Blockbuster app.

I fill in feedback form on Oppo BD UK website.
At "What current feature would you most like to see refined?"
I advise:
-Same plugin architecture as Enigma2 images(Linux GPL powered settopboxes).
-Also online apps in EU images, like we seen at USA images.

Hope we can use plugins soon.(like opkg package management)

AVS Admin has confirmed:

Due to copyright circumvention concerns, please limit discussions about firmware hacks for such purposes to private messages as this is not something AVS Forum would wish to promote

OTOH, if you need one or (especially) more of those features, the price bump is small for what you get.

It's a average user, so then the Sony bluray player is fine.
I have one rule when buying a/v equipment: never buy from a manufactorer who also have a record label
And most people forget that Oppo BDP is excelent in...customizing.(hardware & software). And ofcourse full DVD-A/SACD support with analog outputs(not for average user).

Some people choose a 3 dollar mp3 player (you know, those who needs 10 yrs later hearing devices)

Using the OPPO feedback form on their web site is definitely a good thing to do.

There is also a thread here where people are discussing their wish list for a "next player" from OPPO (to keep from cluttering up this thread):

The resale value of Oppo has no peer. And, I just ordered another Oppo 93, this time directly from Oppo on Amazon. But, I will be upgrading the power supplies because, well, I like too.

First post.

I am the proud winner of a recent contest and I won one of these babies.

But this thread is overwhelming. I currently use a LG BD-570 and am quite happy with it. Knowing Oppo is the holy grail of BDPs, I am curious as to what all the apps are that are on the 93. I see BBOD is to be removed? Not that I would use it anyway but will it be replaced with anything or are they going to pull a Panasonic and just remove it and not replace it? Regardless, a list of current apps is appreciated.

Is wireless Wi fi built in or is there a dongle that needs to be used?

I want to explore SACD/DVD-A, but more into playing BDs and streaming Netflix, YouTube, etc...Is there any reason to swap out my crrent player? In other words, will I notice the difference? I have the equipment to appreciate the added quality, if there is enough to appreciate.

Also, how is the Netflix interface? Search function? Recommended catagories?

The FAQ has a list of online services in this section: How is the BDP-93 different from the BDP-83?

It's a supplied dongle.

Thanks...

But the Oppo only supports 6 apps?! Even though it is to be removed (according to an earlier post) I didn't see Block Buster On Demand listed.

Earlier this year, Blockbuster decided to kick out all the other manufacturers and do an exclusive with Samsung. That's already taken effect.

After all the reports on here re this BD, my kids loaded this one up yesterday and it played flawlessly all the way through - no issues at all.

I even warned them it might not work and they'd have to watch it in 3D

After they'd watched it I checked my FW and no it hasn't updated.

^ Yep. Doesn't fail every time, even on the prior firmware.

OPPO will not update the firmware on line without your permission.
