Is it possible to setup the Oppo 93 where I could watch a movie and play my Xbox 360 at the same time via split screen on my Pioneer 151?

Hard drive questions...I have a 1TB USB external I've been using as a media tank and I wanted a backup...bought a 3TB USB 3.0 drive, which the BDP-93 does not find, even though the drive spins up. The 3TB drive is formatted GPT, single partition.

I am using the last version of firmware that supports ISO. I might consider changing that if an update fixes this issue...anyway...

In order to get this 3TB external to work on my BDP-93, should I try to get the GPT re-formatted as MBR w/3 1TB partitions?

Thanks!
Jeff

Yes, you will need to re-format as MBR. The 93 does not recognize the GPT format. And doing 3 separate 1TB partitions, should allow you to get the full capacity of the drive.

The 93 does not recognize GPT. It also apparently does not recognize more than 1 partition (or was it 2 total TB maximum?) on an MBR drive larger than 2 TB (not sure if it will recognize multiple partitions on drives 2 TB and smaller).

Folks have tried using a 2 TB and 1 TB partition on a 3 TB drive and the 93 will only see the 2 TB.

This is why I have 8 x 2TB drives. The 93 also cannot recognize more than 8 drives no matter how they're connected, so I have one 4-drive Probox and 1 x 4-bay dock for when I fill up the 8th drive.

Thinking whatever new quirks come with new FW will replace the old ones.

Actually, it won't be possible to use the full 3TB. Best to create one 2TB partition. Odds are good that only the first partition will be seen by the player. Anything beyond the 2TB boundary will not be seen.

I just bought a 128GB USB flash drive. The Oppo doesn't seem to recognize it. Is there a max size the 93 will take, or is it a matter of formatting?

Thanks.

Someone that knows the actual spec can probably tell you the max number. But I'm assuming its too big and not recognizing it. Can a future update reverse that? I don't know, but it seems like it would be able too.

It will take USB hard drives up to 2TB; I don't think there are different rules for flash drives.

What is the file system on the stick? Must be FAT or NTFS for the OPPO.

The partition table must be MBR (not the newer GPT) but I think all flash drives are such.

^^ when you say it like that I guess there really shouldn't be a difference. I'm using a 1.5 TB HD via esata, and as long as I turn the HD on a couple of minutes prior to turning the Oppo on I have no problems. But Esata isn't plug and play.

I had that problem once a while back. All I did is reformatted on my PC & it worked fine. Give it a try.

Release date: March 18, 2013
Category: Latest Public Beta Release
Main Version: BDP9x-77-0308B
Loader Version: CN0900
Sub Version: MCU93-09-0218 (BDP-93), MCU95-08-0218 (BDP-95)

1. Improved the support for "Episode Resume" feature observed on "Game of Thrones: Season 1 (BD, 2012)". It is similar to the "Disc Unbound" feature observed on new FOX releases, which allows the audience to select the episode located on another disc, and once the correct disc is loaded, the player will directly jump to the pre-selected episode and start to play.

2. General disc compatibility improvement based on recent and upcoming Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted disc samples.
Sweet. Not that I have had issues with either of those two things, but okay smile.gif

Please note: If you install this Public Beta firmware you will not be able to roll back to the prior, "Official" firmware. If you run into any serious problems that might cause you to WANT to roll back, just get in touch with OPPO Tech Support and they will likely be able to get you a newer version in short order to address the issue.

In addition to the items in the Release Notes, I've confirmed that this version fixes the pending bug from the prior firmware which caused YouTube and Pandora to misbehave if you played a Blu-ray disc prior to launching them while your audio settings included BOTH Secondary Audio ON and HDMI Audio LPCM.

As always, the installation instructions "Recommend" that you do a Reset after the Install. I would put it more strongly than that. In particular, if you run into ANY problems, and haven't already done a post-Install Reset, then your first step should be to do that and see if the problem is cured after you re-enter your personal settings

To do a complete Reset, remove any disc from the Tray, go into Setup and:

1) Erase Persistent Storage
2) Reset Factory Defaults. When the Easy Setup Wizard finishes, Power Off the player.
3) Pull the power plug for about 10 seconds
4) Power up and re-enter your personal settings
5) Power Off once more. Settings are saved during the Power Off cycle.

I'll also post my usual reminder that all firmware released on the OPPO Digital site, here in the US, is for the North American player versions -- the BDP-93 and BDP-95. In particular, if you have a European model player (BDP-93EU or BDP-95EU) you'll need to wait until OPPO UK posts the Public Beta firmware for those players on their web site.

That was my first thought as well. I've been holding off purchasing that blu until some sort of notification that the audio dropout problem has been fixed, either by a FW update or a re-issue of the disc.

^ You do know there was a recall of the disk, right? Info posted on The Digital Bits.

Thanks again Bob, I think I will just sit back and wait for the OFFICIAL release....I am sure my 93 will let me know if/when the official release is ready, as the automatic FW notification is enabled.

Love this player!!!

Ditto! Will be interested to play with the GOT "resume" feature though.

I just got off the phone with Sony customer support. They said they stopped sending out the "fixed" disks because reports said it did not fix the problem. I asked if Sony is working on another press that will fix the issue, and he said no.

SOL !

PS, The audio plays fine in my cheap Sony BD player.
^ Sony should be ashamed of themselves. The original disc should never have gotten out the door authored that way.

Ah well. If I recall correctly the workaround is to use HDMI LPCM or Analog audio output instead of HDMI Bitstream.

It's a good thing you don't have the more expensive Sony Blu-ray players, as the disc fails to play on them, too.
