Zoom on BD-J titles probably falls into the same type of tweaking that OPPO will do.

Bingo!

I believe the problem is partly fixed in this firmware. I'm no longer seeing the gross imaging artifacts. It's been a while since I last used the current "official" firmware, but I believe the size is closer to the mark in the Public Beta as well.

However there are still improvements to come in Zoom quality. And of course no Zoom is yet available for any Blu-ray discs that depend on BD-Java.

Hi bluechunks

I have the latest firmware but have not installed Twonky Media Server. I'll give it a try. Thanks

Best regards

I have audio turned off of the HDMI in the OPPO since it only goes to my projector and my Yam RX-Z9 does not have HDMI thus the reason for using the 8CH connectors for the audio on BR is to decode DTS Master/HD and DD True HD formats.

Also some things I am finding out on using external storage and playing BR m2ts files.

-You pretty much have to save any files in the Root Directory of the external storage device or you cannot see the files.
-If you have more than two files in a folder it does not recognize any files.
-Putting files in a folder named AVCHD does nothing special.
-Transitions between files is not seamless, and at times creates audio sync issues.

I still haven't been able to get it to bring up a dvd menu like popping in the dvd even though I have a 1:1 folder structure from the BR disk.

Erik,
Have you installed the Public Beta (0126) firmware yet?

Well, it does. If you crate a bluray structure under a folder named AVCHD and hit select on it , the 93 will play it. This only happens if you are playing from a local USB disk, not if you are streaming. I guess Neuromancer has said it was working for streaming as well when they started beta testing it.

I do not have the Beta firmware installed. I am playing from a local USB disk, not streaming.

I have put all of the files in a folder named AVCHD and nothing happens.

Anyone know if the newly added Picasa can have background music?

AVCHD must have specific contents, as shown here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD. If you move the BDMV directory of a BR copy into an empty AVCHD folder it should play.

You should install the latest beta before reporting errors.

When I turn on my 93 the blue 'on' led is dim for a couple of seconds and then it lights up. Is this normal?

Thanks,

Same here. No biggie.

Yes. You're the first person to mention it!

I've complained about that. The power light goes Red -> off -> Blue, which makes the player look dead for a short time during startup. No one has told me but I suspect it is unlikely this will be changed.

This 93 is incredible. I picked up a HDCD copy of the Grateful Dead - Dozin' at the Nick (GDCD 4025) yesterday at a garage sale for $2.00 and disc 3 is pretty much hammered. The 93 just walked right thru it. I can't belive how good it sounds. Blows my old DV-980 out of the water. By the way the 980 sold for $170.00 on amazon yesterday.

Yes, it's very annoying. I actually thought my unit was DOA when I first turned it on. Hope they can do something about it.

I think it's a minor matter, but I also knew people would complain about it.

Make your needs known to OPPO directly; posting here is not enough.

Last night I had what I thought was an extraordinary auditory experience with the 93 "in the digital realm."

I bought a copy of the CD Last Night of the Proms 2004. This is a recording by the BBC of a live performance at Royal Albert Hall in London. If you're not familiar with The Proms in general and the Last Night in particular, read more about them here. It's been happening for over 100 years!

I had the good fortune to watch a few years ago a TV broadcast of the 2004 concert and the prior one held in 2003. Interesting at least to me is that apparently on the BBC TV side of things, both were recorded in HD and 5.1 surround sound. The two CDs may be in stereo although there is nary a word that says so on the CDs or the packaging. In any event, my AVR applied Dolby Digital PLIIx to what the 93 produced for my 7.1 speaker setup.

Oh my! I was there! A live performance with all the nuances as recorded by over 70 microphones! Absolutely sensational. A not-to-be-missed experience.

This is not the first time I have been tremendously impressed with the 93 as a digital music player. I'm sure it won't be the last either.

My observation is that while we often praise the 93 for how well is does with upconversion of SD DVDs, damaged DVDs and new media, the machine practically jumps up and salutes when it's given high quality discs to play.

Outstanding! Bravo!!

I must pay more attention to "On" and "Standby" lights. Never noticed.

Quick question on sound.

Mine is set to "Bitstream" over HDMI and HDMI res. to 1080P.

When I tried an old Star Wars in DD 5.1, my AVR said it was getting PCM. I went through all my settings and manual and couldn't find out why this is happening.

BTW: I love my 93. (First Oppo)

I installed the latest beta firmware.

I have moved the BDMV folder into the AVCHD folder. When I go to the AVCHD folder and select it acts like it is going to do something and gives me the loading file % clock in the upper left and then just hangs up with the counter on 0:00:00 .

Anyone tried to eject a BD-disc when the player is streaming from the network (wired) ? This causes my player to freeze/hang every time Dvd-disc works fine. (Using Playstation Media Server v.1.20.439)

When playing the same files from the usb harddrive BD-discs ejects just fine and movie continues to play.

Thanks Bob. At least they are making some progress it sounds like

Here's another one for you.

At the end of the power on sequence, around the same time the 93 says "No Disc", a dim green LED on the front of the USB WiFi dongle flashes once.

This appears to be the only time it flashes. It doesn't flash for WiFi traffic.

I just took Neuromancer's advice and emailed Oppo about it. One more voice.

Weird. I have the same setup as you and have no delay at all, but I am using HDMI 1. I have the AV7005, component video to a Pioneer PRO-610 RPTV. So what's the difference? I am streaming most of my discs from a media server rather than using the discs themselves. PM me if you want to compare settings.

AVCHD over DLNA has never worked. This is due to the DLNA server/client not supporting the meta data required to load the contents as a AVCHD.

Instead, go to Home menu (Home button on remote) and select Netflix. It will ask if you are already a member and when you select Yes, it will then display the special code number you need to type into the Activate a Device portion of Your Account on the Netflix web site.

Leave that code number displaying on the Oppo while you go type that in using your computer. The Netflix site is talking to the Oppo while you do this, and that's how the activation completes.

At that point the activation code number will vanish on the Oppo and your Instant Queue will display.

Wow. Thanks. I was up until 5 am last night trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. After your response it took about 30 seconds. I'm not sure if this particular set of steps was hidden away in the owner's manual or what, but I spent a great deal of time looking for whatever it was that I was missing. Thanks!!!

So I guess I'm a little late to the party here. I just noticed on their website the new firmware tonight. I read the changes on the website, but just wondering if there is a more in depth or more complete list of little tweaks/changes made in this release somewhere?

Or is what's listed everything?

Mostly curious about any changes/improvements made in streaming, and any PQ enhancements made overall to any format

It lists everything you really need to know. There are some behind the scenes changes, such as issues related to the player not finding all files and directories when using USB and eSATA, but the main changes are listed in the Release Notes.

The player is designed to compensate the sync for its own internal processing (video and audio). This is done continuously, as there are times when the player is processing less and other times more. There is no control of the sync, so you can't set a delay which compensates for your downstream processing.
