So you're able to stream Netflix through the 93 without your AVR shutting down? I'll give that a try tomorrow.

Mine will shut down with no disc and nothing but the screen saver running.

Would anyone who got the invitation for pre-release purchase (and not gonna use it) please let me use it?

Thanks!

I "literally" lol'd when I read this, but hey, never hurts to ask.

However, isn't the pre-release opportunity over? Ended yesterday or day before??

LOL, indeed!

I didn't know they have the new 3D player coming out. I currently have the BDP-80, and just got a 3D TV this weekend.

Thing is, I work across from their office in Mountain View. I could've just, literally, hopped by last week to pick it up!

I know that this tread moves very fast. for those having problems with the remote. I was able to move my player closer to the left next to the onkyo receiver. then i was able to get a better response. certainly better then before. hope this helps.

Won't hurt to drop by and beg.

You should know that the 93 does not use the mono-stereo cable like the 83 did. You need to use a mono-mono cable

I'm looking for Pronto Professional xcf files for a TSU9400 if anyone would be kind enough to share.

Thank you.

I ordered my 93 yesterday and I've already been emailed by oppo that I can pick it up in mtn view on Monday.

I haven't tried playing .mkv files via USB yet. My exact message I get is:

File Not Supported!
"The player does not support playback of this file"

It's just a standard .mkv file. H264 MPEG-4 AVC 1280x720 Audio is AC3 5.1

It seems clear in the specs for DLNA that this should be supported. Not sure why it's not at this point.

Try playing it on USB to confirm that it is compatible with the player.

Ensure that the server is not set to do video decoding. Have it send the raw data to the player.

After using my Oppo DV-981hd for DVD-a/ SACD via analog outs for years, I must say, that playback is MUCH improved via the HDMI on the 93; I can't believe the difference. I've tried ALL formats since I received the player on FRI. ..SACD,DVD-A,DTS 5.1 audio all played via HDMI without a hitch. My Coltrane 192k dvd-a sounded amazing.. this player also has very FAST loading times. After changing the the easy access HDMI menu setting from "compatible" to "advanced" I was able to receive ALL of the new formats; Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc. Blu-ray video quality will need more calibration, as I just got this yesterday havent had the time yet...also, I tried the NETFLIX feature it too worked with no troubles..goodbye ROKU!! The one thing that needs smoothing out is the loading transition, to the actual blu-ray feature, I am getting alot of green lines, blank screen, no signal mssgs, as it loads these are all just for a second or two, but it is a bit annoying. Otherwise I say well worth the $$$...

Is there a user manual available online somewhere for the bdp-93 or are they only available to those who have been delivered a bdp-93?

This is the owners' thread! Those of us who are (or those who, ahem, should be) posting here have already obtained our 93's.

Only hardcopy in the box so far.

Not at the moment. The draft manual (include with these pre-release units) is still undergoing review before it gets introduced to the world.

OK. Got my 93 today and have been playing with it. PQ is INCREDIBLE and SACD playback is without pops or other extraneous sounds. WOW.

Only fly in the ointment so far is wireless connectivity. Can't connect wirelessly to my Apple Airport Extreme. Anyone else having this difficulty? I have to uncheck "create a closed network" under "wireless network options" so the 93 sees the network--no problem there. However, when I enter my password, I get a failed connection.

Connection via Ethernet is perfect, so will be using that for now, but again am wondering if any other Apple folks are having this issue. Will be reporting to Oppo as well.

Remember that the text entries for wifi are upper/lower case sensitive.

I find the combo of WPA2 Personal security in the Airport units works well with the WPS2 PSK(AES) security choice in the 93's "Manual" network setup.

"Manual" network setup will also allow you to connect to a "closed" Airport network. You just have to enter the network name as well as setting the security choice and the password.

Regarding the tray, I just sent my 83 back for repair due to a problem with the tray. It always felt a bit flimsy and after a while, it would not open if there was no disc inside (if a disc was inside, it opened fine). A few tries and it would eventually open. This got waorse and worse until no amount of eject presses could open the tray. I opened it up and noticed if I lifted a small white "spindle" disc insert, it would open, or if I pushed down on the back of the tray itself, it would open.

I've had the 93 for most of the week and the tray feels much sturdier than the 83 did right out of the box. Hoping I don't have the same issue.

I am wondering how the DNLA server is working for everyone? I have pix, vids and music on a HP Mediasmart server. The software slows to a crawl when trying to access this content. A few times I've given up and turned the 93 on and off as it seemed stuck. How is it working for everyone else?

Thanks, Mike

There is some indexing that goes one when the 93 finds the server. Give it some time and see if performance comes back to normal.

Well, got it setup during the first half, and picked options at halftime. Watched a little of I Am Legend, and HD audio went fine out of HDMI 2 to the Denon (lip sync was off, but I read here they are working on it)

Have a question:

*) I am using Source Direct on blu-rays, and its outputting 4:4:4 24 bit, which is 8 bit, but, for some reason I thought SD would be 4:2:2? Am I looking at this wrong?

PQ was excellent, can't wait to jam a SACD tomorrow, and watch a flick. Also love how pressing the Display button a couple of times shuts off the front display completely. I used the 83 selection on my harmony, and it works fine on the 93, as well as the wireless being easy to setup (much easier than the BD85).

You get to pick the output data format even when using Source Direct. If you are using Auto for the output data format, YCbCr 4:4:4 will typically be the default for an HDMI to HDMI connection.

I see everyone has raved about how much improved the tray is on the 93. Personally I never had a single tray problem with my 83, but for some reason to me it feels like the 83's was a bit sturdier. I don't know why it seems that way to me, but it just does. Maybe something about how I think the 93's is a little longer, and comes out a bit farther, and this is giving the illusion of more flimsiness to it than the 83 had.

Like I said, I never had a single issue my 83's tray, and don't anticipate any probllems with this tray, so it's kind of a moot pont to me. Just thought it was interesting that everyone has pointed out how much better the tray is, and I prefer the older one.

Streaming on it over my media server however is just awesome! Very stable, haven't had a single lock up yet with streaming, very impressive. And can only improve through firmware upgrades

Bob,

I have reported this to Oppo, but I know you use an Anthem pre/pro so I wanted to see whay your experience has been.
Oppo 93 is working fine except for one problem.
In audio format setup--hdmi audio I tried to set it up for auto, but it only sends the core audio for BR, even when it has DTS-MA chosen.
LPCM works fine- shows 48kHz into the D2. I can't use bitstream to the D2.

Since you can bitstream to the D2v you may not have tried auto, but if you did, were you able to get it to work?

I use hdmi1 to my display, hdmi2 to the D2.

Thanks Bob. 4:2:2 is the closest to unaltered though. Correct? So I should go in and set it from Auto to 4:2:2? To elaborate a little more, the DVDO converts everything it gets into 4:2:2 first, so I figured a 4:2:2 from the Oppo is the best.

I also reported my audio sync issue to the oppo-93 email address I was sent.

As someone who's owned 3 gens of Panny's, the 93 feels quite sturdy.
