Hello everyone. Read through the threads . Took the plunge and picked up the Samsung - PN58C500 at BB on Sat. Box slid nicely into my suv. Set it up in my bedroom . Picture is impressive,bright. Have it hooked up to cablevision box hdmi fixed 1080i. Also BD-C6500 Blu-ray Player looks incredible. It does have a very low level buzz noticeable at very low volume levels. Not a deal breaker. Lots I have not tried yet. So far I'm loving it.

I found a setting under eco mode that I turned off tonight while playing around, it's called Eco Sensor. was watching a blu-ray and noticed the image dimmed down on me, at first though it was a fluke or something with the set but I believe it was eco sensor being left on. Turned it off and seems to have fixed the issue where the image got darker/dimmer. YMMV

Well unfortunately it looks like I'm going to try and return mine to best buy tomorrow. Hopefully it will be hassle free. The buzzing is really getting on my nerves! If I sit on my couch inline with the middle of the tv you can hear the buzz over my surround sound when theres a scene with people talking. My couch is a good 12 ft away. Also when it sit at my computer which is on the opposite wall that is 25 ft away I can still hear the buzz. I just bought it Friday so hopefully i can swap it out with something else. I hate to do it because the picture quality is awesome!

For those of you awaiting delivery - BEWARE:

Mine arrived with a very cracked screen. The box looked fine, but I made the delivery guys stick around and open the box for inspection. Sure enough the screen was cracked in several places. It went back on the truck and Amazon is sending me a new one. Delivery is now another week out. Fingers crossed.

As with any plasma (or any delivery in general) be sure to carefully inspect before signing anything accepting delivery. Simply looking at the box is not enough. My box was pristine. There were no nanny stickers on the box to indicate it had been mishandled or laid on its side.

I made the plunge and picked up this TV today. For the price, the picture is fantastic. Only question I have is, there is a buzz coming from the TV, but only audible when no sound is playing.

What I'm worried about is, does the buzz mean the power supply will eventually have a problem in the future?

I can only go on what Samsung support and the website told me, that it lacks some of the anti-glare/reflection coating of the higher model numbers and it's response time is not the same. Now maybe it is the same but my research doesn't show that. Still a great set and if it's for movies/tv in a light controlled room probably will work fine for most users.

I will be taking my pn58c500 back as I said before. Here's a quick overview of my experience (I think I may have got a bit of a defective one). YMMV but these are my findings.

Major issue with the display - At times the picture has white dots going on and off all over, almost like interference. A power cycle fixes this but it does happen again also sometimes along with the white dots the system can not find the signal from the source, power cycle fixes.
Other findings
A lot of reflections from any lights/windows even if there off to the side or a room away (open floor plan).
According to Samsung website and a CSR I spoke to the screen is not the same as the 550 and up models. The screen lacks some of the anti reflection/glare coating(filtering?) of those models and doesn't have the same response time.
At times the PQ looks vibrant and others too dark. I did not do much adjusting of the set so this might of been changed with setup to make it more consistent.
Xbox 360 gaming (hdmi port 3). Looked good but had more lag than I was used to, could of been the network and not the display. I also read Samsungs do best on hdmi 1 for gaming.
The stand with swivel works well, wish all sets larger than 27" came with them.

Overall I think for someone looking for a nice movie/tv set in a area where light is well controlled this is a good display at a great price. Due to the first two issues I had and given I don't like all the reflections/gaming response it's going back and I am going with a different model/brand.

My guy didn't want to stick around until unboxing. I just noted on the sheet that box looks undamaged, don't know about the inside since delivery man didn't want to wait.

I originally ordered mine from Amazon when the listing said 3DHDTV -- decided to call them today about the listing error, they offered me a $220 refund. o_O

Effectively costing me $979 for this TV.

Did you happen to try the game mode to see if that improved your input lag?

Also what other model/brand were you thinking about exchanging it for? From what I have read, It seems LG plasmas have terrible input lag, Pannys fare much better but have other issues (floating/rising blacks). I'm kinda torn on what to get now...

I had the same blinking white pixels when watching Robin Hood on Blue Ray. Maybe a bad cable, tv? Not sure.

Meant to post here sooner....


I bought this unit on Black Friday.
Acutally ended up buying two...one for me and for Mother in law.

I love this set. Great picture.
Although I didn't like the results of 'dynamic' mode when I was watching football. Minor complaint.

I'm going to punch in Frizell's PQ settings, when I get back home. (currently out of town)

I have not experienced the buzzing noise that others have.

I feel it's a very good 'bang for the buck'.

I will be taking it back next week hopefully and in exchange going back to LCD with a Sharp lc60e88un model which has a matte display and does good with games.

went to cinima smooth and its greyed out

I havent had enough time to break-in my tv. I'm just watching regular HD tv instead of spending money on those discs. I guess i should wait till the tv has been broken in to adjust my picture settings.

In the meantime, does anyone have any settings they found or figured out on their own that they like?

I tried it with mine, all it seemed to do was make the TV think I had a 4th HDMI input. I couldn't find an option for cinema smooth.

Only issue I'm having is a buzz. My TV is wall mounted over a fireplace in my Living Room and I can hear a buzz depending on where I am in the room. Yesterday after having the set on all day for Football and then a few hours of xbox, I could hear a buzz no matter where I was after I shut off the xbox and nothing was on the screen.

I'm considering returning mine to BB as well if the buzz continues or gets worse.

Same here. I made the update to the 590 last night. Not a lot of differences from what I can tell. Played a movie on bluray and still can't change to Cinema smooth .

Considering buying this hog. Was originally going to go with the panny 50g25. But that thing looked so small after staring at 58"!

Question: For you buzz-hearers. Would a sound bar or ht audio system make the buzz go away? In other words, is it the tv's onboard speaker that makes the buzz??

Mine buzzes but it's barely noticeable. I hear it at night a little when the house is silent and volume is set very low (bedroom set). During the day I do not notice it. It does not buzz from the speakers. Sounds like it comes out from the back . Maybe the power supply.
