I think what makes it different than every other year is the 3D part of the equation...if one is smooth and relatively artifact free and has great motion, and the other is flickery with bad motion...well, it isn't going to matter who's theater it is in... or what screen...there are "some" standards we must adhere to...

From the sounds of it, neither is a stellar 3d product (especially being first gen) and both have issues/room for improvement.........as far as which is better, it will depend on who you ask as evidence by the opinions so far I would sure hope the Sony would be the clear 3d champ considering the $$$ dif vs the 40/50 here in the states, but from early reports that does not seem to be the case.......... Should be fun in the next few weeks though! I am just happy the less than 2x the cost 40 is still in the race vs the 90 as far as 3d overall!

Dexter is getting good! I wont see tonights episode until Tues, but these last 3 episodes are going to be intense!

Well, Joe seems to love his... And he has a 990 to compare it to for 2D. The 3D part must be pretty good otherwise Joe would say so. I trust his judgement on this. He and myself may not be experts, but hell, our eyes work!...lol. If the biggest so called problem turns out to be dimness, well, I'll be a happy camper... As far as the JVC, well, no one has even seen a final production model, but at the same time they can't really pull a rabbit out of a hat at this late point if there "are" issues...more than likely if there is no delay, then these final units won't be much different than the pre-production units we've been hearing about. savvy?

Joe, I just heard that, "How to train a Dragon" is supposed to have steller 3D to check out...Have you heard anything about this?

I loved reading joerods review and very much respect his opinion, but in the end it is just one opinion. I also very much respect Petris thoughts since he actually has both machines right now (even though the X7 is pre-prod).

As Petri mentioned, the issues were so blatantly obvious on the pre-prod X7that you would have to think these will be ironed out with the final units .............if not JVC is in trouble and the good thing is we should all know in plenty of time so we can cancel our orders if needed

Sounds like your mind is already made up before seeing either though? Why even waste your cash on the 40 if you have already made up your mind? Also, why not grab a 50 to compare with the 90 which would be a better comparison?

Have you fired up the 93 yet? If so, what are your thoughts on that? I hope to get one shipped out this coming week so I can play with it a bit before the projector arrives.

The 3D part is not going to change from a 40 to a 50...The reason I'm buying both, is I just won't be able to sleep until I see them both with my own 2 eyes...

The Oppo is sweet. I love it...I already sold my 2 LG units, so I'm going to buy another Oppo for the greatroom...It is the BMW of blu-ray machines..IMHO. It is so nice, that I couldn't stop fondling it and sniffing it...(just love the smell of a new unit).

Dogone. The only 3D standards that count are THX's but they keep them secret. Knowing them could be dangerous because some might differ as to them because they are evidently based on current SOTA for 3D consumer machines even though 3D consumer machines may not measure up to commercial machines (e.g, 120 vs 144).

So we should have a new meditation mantra, if it 3D THX certified its good enough for little old me this year. The problem is that next year the SOTA will advance and next year's machines must be judged by what will be the unpublished new THX 3D standards for next year.

Hopefully the THX sticker will be removable from this year's certified projectors, so we can rip them off in respect to next year's standards which also will not be published.
