When I play back a Netflix movie with DD+ on my bedroom PS3, it displays Dolby Digital on my old JVC receiver, connected via optical.

My point was it works. I still see people stating that DD+ doesn't work through Netflix.

DD+ and DD are two different things. For whatever reason Sony hasn't enabled DD+/DTS-HD/TrueHD playback outside of Blu-Ray playback. Same goes for 24fps, that could be why there is no 24fps DVD playback.

Yes, it should. The DD+ signal is being converted to standard 640k DD. It does this for everyone.

the people in this thread do understand that they can only get DD+ using HDMI too many posting they are getting DD+ with optical.If you are getting DD+ with HDMI post your settings not just that you are getting it.please....

You said you can only get DD+ over HDMI, then you said everyone's posting that they are getting DD+ over optical (I am one that does). I wasn't able to get it to work over HDMI. Go figure.

you are not getting Dolby Digital Plus.over optical.
Dolby Digital Plus is supported by HDMI™ 1.3 and higher, enabling transmission together with high-definition video through a single cable connection.read this page.

My system that supports DD+ (Pioneer KXP-1020) has never said "Dolby Digital +" on the display, through HDMI.

All I know is Dolby Digital works, both on HDMI and optical, and is good enough for me. If I needed anything better I'd go to physical media. The picture quality on Netflix, even HD, isn't enough to justify worrying about whether it's DD or DD+.

as for The picture quality on Netflix it is damn good on my 12 mbps internet connection.always plays in x-high/hd.

Well I just updated the Netflix app on my PS3, and I can confirm that Dolby Digital Plus is being bitstreamed to my receiver. I tested it out with Thor, and it sounds awesome. My Pioneer VSX-33 displays Dolby Digital Plus on it's display.

I just ran across the thread by accident and started reading and wonder if this was an old issue resolved last year or something since all but the last post were 8/11 or before. I just walked over to my receiver and and am getting Netflix DDplus displayed, I use LPCM over HDMI. Pretty sure the little I've used Vudu I got the advertised audio (renting movies).

Pretty much gave up using PS3 for streaming video apps. Now using Sony S590 for Netflix, Vudu (both DD+) and Amazon (DD).

All in all I think the PS3 does a nice job streaming Netflix, and VUDU. Don't really have a need for Amazon's new service.
