The Intellibeam works very well,,, with the mic it maps out your whole room and and wall locations to reflect the sound beams off of.

Saying the YSP's are doing "faux" surround is not really correct,,, the YSP's are actually doing real surround sound, they are 5.1 to 7.1 discrete channels coming out of the bar and the sub and bouncing off the walls back to your ears.

Faux surround is just that,,,,,,,, fake surround created in most cases from a 2 channel stereo signal.

NOt sure if anyone posted this yet or not,,, but here is the YSP-2200 product bulletin:

One thing I noticed was the remoter has been cleaned up alot from the usual YSP remote that had so many buttons they were a total cluster f#@k.

Perhaps Yamaha cleaned up the menu's as well and made the 2200 easier to navigate,,,, Im even hoping for better looking on-screen menu's.

It has fewer drivers 2W x 16 beam drivers and a sub. How might this compare to the ysp-900 with 23 drivers at 82 watts. Already have a separate sub.

Noob question, how well does it do with blinds? My TV is flushed against the condo window and I normally have my blinds down when watching a movie. Are blinds solid enough?

Yes, Davyo is exactly right. The technology is froma company called Cambridge Mechtronics. And it is the real deal. Yamaha YSPs, Mitsubishi Unisen. EVERY other virtual surround option, at least to my ears.. is not really in the same ballpark:[/i]http://www.cambridgemechatronics.com/technology/audio

Yes,, blinds are fine,,, they will reflect sound.

Things that hurt soundbars are curtains and soft stuff on the walls,,,,, so dont hang any pillows on your walls.

Hey Frosty

Yea,,,, the Mitsubishi Unisen,,, man those TV's sound amazing,,,, If they made a 65 inch size I wouldnt even think of owning any other TV.
At least they finaly came out with a 55" size though.

hell davyo from my perspective this 2200 may be the ultimate soundbar: hd audio, wireless and thin with YSP technology!

too bad it's expensive for me! hope it will be much better than the s400 which was a huge letdown for ya

Agreed,,,, on paper the 2200 looks like it might be "Thee" soundbar !!!

And yea,,,, the S400 was a let down for me as well,,,,, I was not impressed with it at all.

I was talking with a Yamaha Rep today. He said the new 2200 is his favorite soundbar. He actually thought when he heard a demo, it sounded better than the ysp 4100 or 5100. He said it was playing the DTS ma of Terminator Salvation and it was phenomenal . Killer looks also.

I'm totally buying this probably the day it is released. The price point is exactly what I'm wanting and I don't want a 5 to 6 speaker setup.

I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I'll make sure to give my thoughts on the forum.

BTW, it is now on the Yamaha site.

I think this is really an important point. Obviously, the proof is in actually hearing how they compare. I would think if you can get a 4100 for a little more than a 2200, that would still be the way to go.

Could not agree less.

I owned several YSP's, ones with less drivers and ones with more drivers.

As I recall the difference was slight and not night and day.

Even if the 4100 was less money than the 2200 I would still get the 2200.

Reasons: the 2200 has a much better design, a far less clutered remote and Im thinkin/hoping, an easier OS and menu's.

YSP's up until now have always been a pain to manualy adjust and set-up, the menu's have sucked and the remotes sucked,,,, meaning, some of the things people hated about the past gen YSP's seemed to have be resolved with the new Yamaha 2200.

Just my opinions of course.

If 16 drivers and 32 watts (+ a dedicated subwoofer it must be mentioned at 100w) can sound better than 40 drivers and 2 woofers at 120 watts using the same technology, then indeed I would be impressed.I find it hard to believe that intelli-Beam is going to work better with 16 drivers than 40 drivers. But that's why I said actually listening to them would tell the tale. All things being equal, the simplicity of the 2200 may well trump a 4100, but I find it very questionable that the 2200 would sound as good as a 4100. But that's why we have people who buy multiple soundbars and test them, so we can at least have some basis on which to discuss our various opinions.

the 2200 is 300$ less than the 4100...so that is money!
to 4100 is huge, the 2200 is sexy...
but will it be night and day between the 2 bars in performance? nope probably not !

I have owned one Yamaha YSP and demo'd a second. I agree with Davyo, that the number of drivers and total amplifier power are not relevant with how these units work. Since the amplifiers are not amplifiers in the normal sense but computer chips, these ratings have almost nothing to do with the reality of listening.

I was never thrilled with Yamaha's psuedo surround in the past. Unless Yamaha has changed their methods, their units generate their surround and other effects through phase and time delay techniques. While these may work well in simulating surround, they also leave a number of problems of their own which out weighed the other positive attributes of their system.

i've bought this projector yesterday for my living... i come from a Onkyo 705+polk surroundbar+polk subwoofer.
My living room is 5 meters for 7.. most of all i changed to remove most of the cables "on air" and with no possibility of installing a real 5.1 cause my wife
The sources connected are a ps3, satellite tv and WDTV live for 1080p movies only..
the price is higher than others bars, here in Italy is 800 euros, while others are average 400 euros... i was intended to buy Ysp 4100 or 5100, but the extra 300-500 euros for those ones made me desist.
i read someone saying this bar had 4 hdmi in, that is true for ysp 4100 or 5100. we've got 3 hdmi 1.4 in and 1 out, that is good for people with 3d compatible tv , my screen is a Pioneer 4270, so i'm ready for a future upgrade. The 4100 and 5100 are now 3d compatible with new frmware, but only for video, ad the hdmi 1.3 don't permit the manage of the audio 3d.
My impressions now:
the auto-setting is very fast, at most 3 minutes, but not precise, i suggest changing manually the parameters for better results, especially for the back surround and with rooms not regular in shape.
the sound, that is more important.. the 5 beams work well, with good localizations of the surround sounds, an improvement to my previous bar.. this one sounds clearly and, thank to the subwoofer that "enters" when we need the right power, powerful.
i listen to movies at max 50 on 99 audio volume, and the walls often dither..
even with high volume we have no distortion, with clear voices in the front and no special effects covered in the surround.
Even trying some stereo material, as music videos and satellite radio, the listening is satisfying, not for audiophiles with great expectations but for the average listener good enough.
the look is great, and the sub even if powerful is so small you can put in design furnishing. For my tranquillity and my wife's happiness!
In conclusion, as all you know real 5.1, not considering real 7.1, is far better than these projectors, don't hope obtain the same results..
