Killer review. Thanks for posting it. Really reminds me of why the YSPs and Mitsubishi Unisen are really 'the' soundbars. Nice that they mentioned Cambridge Mechatronics( behind both) and the man responsible for the amazing technology.

Quick question though, about this statement

"If you have a Panasonic Viera TV, the Yamaha’s HDMI sockets will even talk to the set and respond to remote commands from it, turning off and on in sync. Impressive."

Does anyone know if this is only with the panasonic? I'm torn between a samsung and a panasonic plasma and this may make my decision for me.

Not for me I guess. Got in before price went up. Paid $503 plus tax this morning when I received email that it was back in stock. Opted for 2nd day over the free shipping option. $580 out the door. And it's already en route!!!!

You should have opted for the free shipping. When I snagged mine late last year, I went with the free shipping and it arrived in about three days.

But major props for getting your 2200 at $503.00!

Any recent news/deals on this 2200 soundbar? I've been looking to make a switch from my 3.1 system as there is no good place for a true center channel where I mounted the TV.

Was looking at Polk products and stumbled on the 2200 as well as the Sonys and references to the JVC. Didnt intend to replace my Onkyo receiver, but am open to just using it to drive two bookshelf speakers for our music and have a soundbar/sub system for tv/movies.

Is 799 the best price now? No more sub 600 deals on Buy.com lately?

Been using mine a week now. What great sound! My room isn't ideal as I'm renting at present but the surround effect is quite good. Very good, full sound when just playing music -- I stream via AirPlay through my Apple TV and it works well. But where it truly shines is with movies which sound truly amazing, even dialogue is crisp and clear! At $800, I'd agree it's a bit steep but well worth the sub $600 I paid. It looks great too. Very minimalist. Also works perfectly with my Logitech Harmony One remote. Thumbs up!!

The only reported means of mounting the 2200 to a TV I've heard of was someone (I think in this thread -- haven't gone back to check) using these soundbar brackets.

Not sure how well they work with something as substantial and deep as the 2200, though.

Does anyone know, whether the YSP-2200 projects soundbeams via the ceiling as well or only via the walls. As it has only one row of speakers, I expect, it cannot adjust the beam vertically, right?

I have a somewhat difficult room geometry with the TV in the edge of the room, so one side wall almost in touch with the TV and the couch (+ has a window and curtains) and the other wall 9 feet away. So it is probably hard for the YSP-2200 to project sound via this wall.

The ceiling would be a perfect reflector, but probably the YSP-2200 cannot use it. Should I look for a projector with multiple rows of speakers instead?

The projector depends on side walls. However, you may still get a decent sense of surround without close proximity to walls. Worst case, a nice broad soundstage. Yamaha's algorythms relay on phase shift and sound delay. The speakers inside are not aimed at the side walls. The phase shift focuses the sound beams in the necessary direction.

Sounds almost like the room I have

Oh well right now I have a Sharp SP10 so everything will be an improvement.

Cheapest I've seen the YSP 2200 ($599) is www.primetime-electronics.com but not sure if they can be trusted.

It should works VERY well in this room. You just need to set it up really well, and get the caibrations really right.

That sounds promising. :-)

I thought with the TV and the couch not in the center between the side walls and almost no distance between couch and back wall, that room would be far from ideal for a sound projector.

Maybe the YSP-2200 can compensate for the different distance to the side walls, but I don't think it will be able to generate sound from behind by bouncing from the back wall as demonstrated in the Yamaha product videos.

Anyhow, I think I'll give it a try.

Yamaha has launched also nice home theater rack systems, where ( simillar specs ) the newest 7.1 YSP 2200 has been used as surround sound. According the specs, the YRS 1100/2100 has additional 2x50W drivers, which expands the watt performance to 232Watt.

What do you think about the design, where the 13cm subwoofer is integrated in the main sound bar chassis? How does this differ from the YSP 2200 in terms of sound performance/quality?

Who knows? Probably almost the same + all in one / - all in one / - height etc. set / - must fit your space

I sit 2meters in a front and centre of my Bravia EX 40" TV set, so the rack - soundbar would be perfectly placed.

Personally I dont like too much bass, the sound clarity / surround is preffered more.

What I dont understand, it looks like the YRS 1100 ( the rack ) has 42Watt power consumption and the YSP 2200 55Watt. Its probably because the YSR has only one PSU for the whole unit and the YSP of course two separate ( bar and subwoofer ). That also means, the additional 2x50Watt speakers on the YRS 1100 are used only with stereo sources. Will have to ask by Yamaha about the watt/performance design.

I just received my Yamaha YSP-2200 today. I have read most if not all the threads of the soundbar. My question is, by setting the subwoofer on it`s side can a person set something (Direct TV receiver) on top of the subwoofer with damgeing by creating to much heat? Or should I put something between to dissipate the heat?

I don't think a passive subwoofer generates noticeable heat.

But it generates a lot of vibrations, which might be an issue with whatever you place on top. And this might damage the surface of the subwoofer and/or what is on top over time.

A Direct TV receiver may not have moving parts, like a DVD-player, so it might work, but the risk of damaging the surface is still there.

It would also be positive to check the operating instructions for the sub. Many subs are optimized for performance to work in a specific location with a specific orientation. Not sure about this model, but that has been the case with other subs in the past from Yamaha.

Thanks, peter248. I did not even consider the vibration concern point, great point will keep that in mind. And thank you drfreeman60, the instructions only show the placement of the subwoofer such as under the t.v.. So you are suggesting set it up and then test different locations by trial and error?

As of today, a RESELLER on amazon is selling for $589 + $47 for shipping. 96% positive rating off 68 ratings.

Sooo tempting, except that I'm going out of country for 4 months. Not sure if I should buy now, or wait till I get back.

Yamaha probably not. Asked them and they said it was not designed for wall mount.
Got my unit but didn't see where to attach to the universal brackets. It was done before but how?
