GreenEyez - you still got the high pitched static noise problem you reported on xbmc forums - see the other user who had the problem resolved his issue. DSPlayer wasn't being used for playback - might be worth a check to ensure that you either have an advancedsetting file or are starting dsplayer from the context menu.

Hows it going Damian - nice to see DSPlayer back on the radar.

I don't drink you jokesters. Tinkering with htcp's is going to drive me to it though.

Not too bad here, still trying to make an honest living, I think. How goes with you?

The rebirth of DSPlayer has definitely caught my attention. Will need to give it a test run with LAV.

Honestly I thought alcohol was mandatory to mess with HTPCs

Actually, the latest AMD driver fixed my issues (ds player was being used, i had the advancedsetting file). But only fixed them partially, as now i get audio just fine, but no video lol.

I`m ordering a GT520 tomorrow and i`ll see how it works.

Why do we still need dsplayer as Eden is going to release soon?

Apart from the fact that Eden won't have HD Audio capability - some like the option of using Direct Show filters to enhance the viewing experience.

Ps: im still waiting for madshi to complete the test version, so right when i get it ill leave a message to say i started developing the patch required for madvr

So MadVR is coming to DSPlayer sooner rather then later, i was expecting months of development, seems it may be just weeks

Is there a tutorial somewhere for best picture quality possible using XBMC? Also, is there any way to utilize crossfire for video playback?

More good news. Ember Media Manager, which most older XBMC users know about, has a new developer that is working on it. Currently he is fixing bugs and wants to add auto-scraping /auto-renaming functions for it, just like MCM.

http://ember.purplepig.net/projects/embermm/files

When they are done, i`ll switch the guide to Ember, since MCM creates both MB and XBMC metadata files, and i only want XBMC metadata

Anyway, here`s the configuration for LAV CUVID + LAV Audio + LAV Splitters (Nvidia only, since LAV CUVID is a CUDA based decoder)

LAV filters download : http://files.1f0.de/lavf/LAVFilters-0.42.exe
Mediasconfig.xml : http://www.mediafire.com/?1gvajzxvgd8dvc7
Advancedsettings.xml : http://www.mediafire.com/?kkpvid6o3dpgj6v

After you install LAV filters, go to Star Menu orb -> All Programs -> Lav Filters COnfiguration
[*]For LAV Video -> Select Hardware decoder to use -> CUVID

[*] For LAV Audio -> Select the bitstreaming options you want, or leave everything as it is if you decode audio on your HTPC

Put the mediasconfig.xml in your C:\\Users\\Alex\\AppData\\Roaming\\XBMC\\userdata\\dsplayer folder.
Put the advancedsettings in your C:\\Users\\Alex\\AppData\\Roaming\\XBMC\\userdata folder

During playback of an MKV file, press "o" on the keyboard to get the info. Should look like this :

Hey greeneyez, thanks for this info. I havnt been able to get it going yet. I posted my below info over at xbmc but thought I would throw it up here as well in case I can get feedback on it. One thing I was wondering(maybe steelman can answer as well) is that your files are much smaller than the ones steelman has in his post below to me. They are like the ones in the program files (86) path not the userdata path. Since I thought those were already there and steelman also said they were included in the build, I was confused as why the two different type mediaconfig and advance settings files are different. Also, where you say to put the mediasconfig file in the dsplayer folder in the userdata path, there was no dsplaer file. I had to create a dsplayer file to put the mediasconfig file into. The only dsplaer file is in the program files (86) path. Let me know if you see the problem. In the meantime I'm going to keep at it and read up on the instructions given here:

http://dsplayer.wikia.com/wiki/HOW-TO:_Using_DSPlayer

- Im trying to install all lav filters and lav cuvid in dsplaer build. when i hit the c button, "play using"shows dsplayer but when i press on it nothing happens. I installed the mediasconfig.xmlin my C:\\Users\\Alex\\AppData\\Roaming\\XBMC\\userdata\\dsplay er folder. and Put the advancedsettings in your C:\\Users\\Alex\\AppData\\Roaming\\XBMC\\userdata folder. there was no dsplayer folder in the users\
ame\\appdata\
oaming\\xbmc\\userdata\\so i created oneand put the file in that. Here is the mediasconfig fileI used: ---

and here is the advance settings file i used: - - dsplayer

I didnt do anything to the C\\program files(86)\\xbmc\\system\\players\\dsplayer files but i will show them anyway.

here is the filter config file that is located there:http://pastebin.com/HhLddcSs

here is the mediasconfig filethatis there : http://pastebin.com/9EzdEFU9

and here is my error log:http://pastebin.com/wC2uDu5Q

any ideas?

Edit: I actually looked at steelmans indepth for the first time and realized they are the same as yours I believe except he was just giving me one for many file types.

Well, first let`s clarify what does 2 folders 2. FIrst of all, XBMC searches for settings found in the userdata folder in C:/User/Roaming etc. . If it does not find the settings there, it reverts to the settings found in the normal install folder (C:/Program Files/XBMC)

My files were smaller because they only contained the custom settings for MKV, nothing else. For the rest of the filketypes DS Player should revert to the default mediasconfig in C:/Program Files/XBMC etc.

Looking at the log (thanks for posting it, needed the info), it doesn`t even take into consideration the mediasconfig.xml in the userdata folder, it just reverts to the standard one in C:/Program Files/XBMC etc. , i.e. it starts to load the MPC filters and ffdshow. But since you don`t have ffdshow, playback normally fails.

Ok, i`ll give you the complete mediasconfig.xml to put inside C:/Program Files/XBMC instead of the one you already have (make a backup of that one btw) in a minute, i just woke up and need some coffee

Cool, thanks. I think I could figure it out, but yeah, if you don't mind making the file, that would be great. Thanks. I want to to use dsplayer with all lav spltters/filters and cuvid for all filetypes. That way when madvr is implemented I won't have to change it again(hopefully) to include the rest of the filetypes besides mkv.

Oh, I wasn't sure what you meant by or if you were asking me something with your first sentence, " Well, first let`s clarify what does 2 folders 2" ??

Here it is : http://www.mediafire.com/?bm4ld4fwb4n3zv6 . Sry for the delay, went back to sleep after that post, lol. Just put it in your normal C:\\Program Files/XBMC/userdata/sistem/players/dsplayer folder, replacing the one you already have.

And about that sentence, well, i was so sleepy that i wasn`t even typing properly. I actually meant : "Well, first let`s clarify what the two folders ( C:\\ProgramFiles/XBMC/userdata & C:\\Users\\Alex\\AppData\\Roaming\\XBMC\\userdata ) do and how they influence your personal settings (including dsplayer settings). "

So I added the new mediaconfig file to the C:\\program files\\ path and removed the old one from C:\\ users path after i backed it up. I also left the advancesettings file in the C:\\users path. when i play any movie it uses the standard player, when i press "C" and hit "play using" dsplayer it works on MKV's, but thats it. When I press "O" and read the info at top of screen it says Im using Lav filters and video decoder for every filter on mkv's. But when I press "play using" and dsplayer for anything else it uses the regular player and filters again.

here is my error log: http://pastebin.com/aPYTMMaX

Edit: oh, also there is a dsplayer in my C:/user path this build(I used todays build) as well

I could just edit the file you gave me and under each audio/video format/container type where it lists wich filters each one uses, just replace those with the lav filters, right?

Also, how would I get it to use the dsplayer as my default player for everything so I dot have to us " C, play using" any more?

Did you maybe give me the wrong file by mistake, it looks like lav filters are just used for ISO, and mkv.

Yes, they are only used for ISO and MKV because that`s how i set it up. Yes, you can try to use them for other filetypes, just replace them (the current splitters/decoders) with LAV. What filetypes do you want LAV to be used for? I can make you another one for other filetypes if you want.

i`m gonna look into that advancedsettings.xml, that should make ds player the default for everything, maybe i mistyped something. Just woke up, need to drink some cofee, lol

Edit : Try putting the advancedsettings.xml in your normal XBMC folder (C:/ProgramFiles/XBMC/userdata), for some reason i think it`s not reading your custom xmls in the Roaming/XBMC folder.

Don't think that will resolve the issue of default playback. I would suggest that if it isn't working it is only 1 of 2 things - incompatible xml file, or file in the wrong location.

@joeydrunk - could you provide a screenshot of your userdata location?

I actually thought of that and tried it but it didn't work. I think I'm going to do a fresh install and try it again though. I think all of my SD stuff is either avi or xvid. Besides mkv j think that's all I have, I'm going to double check though. I was going to change it and add lav to extra file types but for some reason whenever I try to make a .xml folder with notepad and then I open it, its blank. I havnt done thus in awhile since I was making a playercorefactory file, is there something I'm not doing right? I just save it as a .xml in the title and that's it turns up blank every time. Oh i tried.playing two.different ISO as well and it just plays the sound. I think they are dvd ISO. If you can think of something I'm doing wring with my making of a .xml file I can do it or if it isn't a hassle for you and you wouldn't mind makng me one with avi and xvid that would be wonderfully. I'm going to download xbmc again and move the other file and try it.

Well, i`ll upload a pic of the userdata folder how it should be from my end, so we can double check. Just a sec.

No problem, i`ll edit the XMLs for AVI and XVID, but in a couple of hours, i have some stuff to do right now, i`ll pm you when i`m finished.

OK, here is the pic :

Figured out something btw. The dsplayer folder in Roaming/XBMC only appears after you first played a movie with DS Player, not upon the initial install. That`s why it wasn`t showing up for you the first time.

Reading between the lines and by Joey's report of blank xml files - it sounds like its the set-up of the xml that's the issue.

Joey here's an advancedsettings config - paste it to notepad and when saving make sure that the 'file name' is called advancedsettings.xml and doesn't have a .txt extension.

Code:

   dsplayer

save it to the c:\\users\\username\\appdata\
oaming\\xbmc\\userdata folder.

Basically, here`s how you should save it.

Save as type : All Files . Very important, or else it will just save it as a txt file
post #1380 of 2944
That worked for making .xml files. I didn't switch it off .txt to all files.
