Movie sets is already in Eden no addon required. You just have to enable it in System settings, and then rescan items in library that are in a series.
I think he was looking for the manual way to add things to movie sets since some people don't like the predefined way XBMC does it which is based on themoviedb.org. Things like the Iron Man Movies, Captain America, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk being included in the Avengers Collection might rub some people the wrong way if they want to have an Iron Man set, and a set for the crappy Ang Lee Hulk movie, The Incredible Hulk, and the animated Hulk movies.

I like how XBMC does it and since I'm lazy, the automated way works best for me but I think there was an add-on called Movie Sets that allowed you to do it manually. This might be in the Aeon MQ3 skin though so if you have that skin, check the Aeon MQ3 repository. Also, bring up the slide-out menu in the Movies section and check the available add-ons section to see if it's already available.

I believe you can still do things manually with Eden's move sets, just create a .nfo file. This may also allow you to create a "Christmas" movies set. Here's the link on more info: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Movie_sets

Exactly... Want to be able to make my own sets. Xbmc actually does a great job and i love it but, I want to make my own say christmas,halloween,etc.. sets if I want and be able to put the movies that I choose to put in them...

Will have to get that skin..I have regular skin and Aeon nox currently. Tried the program Xwmm but it doesn't work with IE, or firefox. Unless it's the skin i'm using. More searching and reading.

Ember Media Manager makes it really easy to create custom sets...might want to look into it: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=116941

You can also simply just edit your .nfo file manually. Add this line to your movie.nfo file:
Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Joeforsale, working on it right now..should know in awhile if it worked or not.

Mallet21, will most definitely check into the link you posted.

Thanks brickie

Success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally it's perfect!!!!!! I have my christmas collection with my regular movies but ALL christmas movies are contained with in it. Perfect exactly what i wanted. Thanks to all who helped and gave opinions and info to get this to work!

the method that worked was from Joeforsale, post #2344. Had to create the nfo file and edit it just like the example for each christmas movie and when i scanned it picked them all up and put them in a christmas collection folder. Lot of work but this was worth it.Really looks totally polished now!

Thanks brickie

Glad it worked. I'm going to go through when I have time and fine-tune my library.

I'd say it's equally complicated and stable either way. You have to get a backend setup and all the other stuff just to get live TV. The recording features are very rudimentary, and I just use the web backend for my setup (FTR) to do the recording anyway.

Hi all -
Just starting to read about the HTPC setups and trying to get a good understanding of things - I'm wondering if XBMC is the way to go for me (and if this is a good place to ask).

My desktop computer is in the room adjacent to the TV room. I have an ethernet cable running to the sony BD player right now from the computer room that can play a couple things here and there, but the interface is clunky and formats covered are weak. I was thinking about using XBMC to serve up video directly off of the PC instead of the BD player, but not sure how control works from an adjacent room. RF would be required if using a remote but it looks like there's an android app to control the player. If that is the case, I suppose the only thing I would need is a 30' mini-HDMI cable (is that too long?) that I could run through the wall where the ethernet is being ran right now, from the mini-HDMI port on my nvidia GTX460 to the TV itself (that should carry video and audio to the TV, IIRC).

As an alternative, I see that Boxee on the PC could do some of this as well but the MKV support seems skitchy from old posts I've read (enlighten me if I'm wrong please) and it has an android app already for the remote.

Thanks!
I run a 50' to my livingroom and have no issues.
The devs stopped supporting the PC version of Boxee so I would say that it's dead and would advise against actually using it as your main media center front-end. I prefer XBMC myself and use it for the majority of my viewing in addition to WMC for live TV and DVR and the other front-ends like Plex and Boxee for messing around in and checking out random apps. If your PC is strong enough to play bluray rips then you should be ok with running an HDMI cable to the TV and using an RF remote to control the PC in the adjacent room especially if you are able to use hardware acceleration with the card in your PC.

I'll second xbmc! Been doing the htpc thing for over 12-14 yrs. Pretty much right after dvd came out..Back when sales people would laugh at me when I told them I had one.

You'll love what they can do!! And I use a laptop as my main htpc right now. It's an i7 machine though so plays anything I throw at it. Only thing I feel bad about is I just discovered xbmc recently. Can't believe all this time i was doing simple file selection. Xbmc blows away the commercial offerings!!!

Android remote for XBMC will work great. As a recommendation, run a standard HDMI and use an adapter rather than Mini. That way as you change out for cards with standard HDMI ports, you won't need to fuss with adapters. I think its better to use the standard cable and adapt for any outliers than to have to adapt for every other device. I learned that lesson when I put DVI-HDMI cables through the walls for my PC, had to tear it all out and go with straight HDMI.

Yeah, I still don't understand how none of these media streamers from huge corparations like WD and Sony down to the more boutique expensive players like the Dune can't get this right. You would think one of these companies would have either copied what XBMC did or just reverse engineer it and create a settop box with the customizability of XBMC, a built-in scraper that is fairly accurate, solid format support and content playback, with a beautiful UI. The home theater geek would be lining up to throw anywhere between $300 - $500 maybe even more at them seeing what the Dunes go for with their lack of any sort of online content just based on their rock solid playback of local content.

Great suggestions all, thanks. Few more questions....

If I use my desktop to serve via XBMC to TV, do I have to go through manually and change audio out to HDMI every time I want to watch TV and then switch it back when I want to use the computer?

As far as control goes - Is there a way to use my harmony one remote via a RF/IR translator where I could get the signal through the wall instead of using an android app to control XMBC (if I'm not around for the kids to use my android)?

Our local cable company recently started renting cable cards. If I understand it, I can get a TV tuner card for the PC that would accept the cable card, get some kind of guide service, and then record that to HD?

That's probably a whole other can of worms... I think I might just start off with trying to rip some BD for the kids and myself to HD first and see if we can get things started after getting an adapter and cable...

Actually, Sigma Designs did approach XBMC about a port (http://xbmc.org/?s=sigma+designs). That was over a year ago. Everyone expected it to feature in the 8910 chipset--which seems to have been sidelined.

Got a quick question..When I first started doing this it would scrape and generate "back drop" files that my WD media player was able to use as well...Using IMBD to scrape by the way.But now when it scrapes i get the backgraound all pretty like it should be,but there is no file generated that the media player can use..I did change skins from default to Aeon Nox.Any chance this change is the problem? Or could it be imbd scraper is the problem?

Not a real big deal, just means i have to use a program to generate a background that the media player will show when going thruu movies....Just that the initial ones that xbmc generated are nicer with a better layout. Just can't figure out how to get it to generate "sheet" files anymore. Any insight is appreciated..I figure it's something simple i'm missing.

I don't think a skin will change how files are scrapped. You will probably have to manually change the image file from .jpg to .png or vice-a-versa like we discussed before.
I didn't think so either.. Just can't figure how how so many of movie folders had the sheet file auto generated whereas to now it doesn't..Not a big deal I guess. Got another program that generates it for the media player and I just place it in folder with everything else and when I use the media player it displays just like xbmc. Was just wondering if there was a setting I may have changed since the ones that xbmc did generate are a little nicer than the other ones I make.

I added my first album to XBMC today and added my music directory as a source. Just did one album to start to make sure there are no kinks. I then sorted by track number. One track, track #8, is at the top. The rest are in order. I've examined all the meta tags and they are all right. Yet track #8 gets sorted at the top. Any ideas why this unexpected result if the tags themselves are correct?

Man I love XBMC. I made some bad remarks about it earlier because I didn't really know too much bout it. What a mistake! I have one mac mini in one room, and just did the fire core on atv2, works great! So much you can do with it, the best media player period.

are we at the point yet when we can play blu-ray folders (unencrypted from anydvd hd) directly or does it call TMT still? I tried this a few years ago (calling TMT) and gave up in frustration. I suspect I will have to call TMT for HD-DVD since it's long dead but if I have to call TMT for blu-ray how cleanly does it work now if you're just using a remote and don't want to use mouse/keyboard?

Xbmc treats your bluray similar to mpc-hc. It chooses the largest file along with the hd audio and play it automatically.

Can someone help me to get analog and digital audio working simultaneously? I'm just using coax/toslink out but need to get analog working at the same time (for another room).

In the XBMC settings it seems you can only select one or the other? Is there a way around this? Which renderer am I supposed to pick?

Thanks!

I use the "Dual-Audio" patch. I get get simultaneous audio over coax and HDMI. It also allows analog. You replace XBMC.exe with this file.
Get it at http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=86038

Is anyone having issues using eden final 11.0 and music? Im using last.fm and musicbrainz to scrape, neither seems to scrape anything.

I cant even edit music information anymore. I use to be able to edit and look up artist information.

I reinstalled xbmc and still the same thing.

Nothing is scrapped and i cant even change album informaiton.

Furthermore even when i go scroll over music it says i have 0 songs, even though i have alot of music in there.
haven't tried it with music yet so can't comment on that problem, but would like to 2nd bringing back the ability to edit information if you thought it was wrong.
