having some trouble storing my trailers. All of my 2d movies work well if I name the trailer "move-trailer". However, my 3d iso's are not working with this same naming convention. What is the correct naming covention for trailers of 3d movies? Also, I can't seem to get Captain America's trailer to work either. It is the only 2d movie that is giving me a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated! btw I'm using aeon mq3, thanks!

I have some sound quality questions I'm hoping someone can help with.

I watched The Hunger Games Blu-ray the day it came out on my little Blu-ray player. The device is connected via TOSLINK to my Meridian 568.2mm. Even though I have 7.1 speakers I'm aware that TOSLINK is limited to 5.1 lossy.

I ripped the same disc usking MakeMKV and played back the (uncompressed) file via my Mac Mini-based XBMC which is also connected with TOSLINK. The sound was different... thinner, with less bass impact.

Did I do something wrong with the rip? For my rips I have been checking both the DTS HD Lossless (or equivalent Dolby version) AND the 3/2+1 boxes.

I'm not sure which I should even be checking. I assumed that I should rip the lossless track and then the XBMC software would handle the transcode to output 5.1 via the TOSLINK. Is that what's happening?
jdanforth if you ripped it with both checked you need to go into the audio settings and see which track is being played. If you don't know how to do that, get the movie playing, hit menu for the in movie overlay, hit right cursor two times to highlight the subtitles and audio section, select that. Scroll down to the area that shows which audio stream is being used, select the correct stream, then exit out. It should save this and play it back each time you watch the movie now.

I ripped my avatar disc and had a 7.1 track and a stereo track, went to watch it in xbmc and it was defaulting to stereo!!! Once I changed to the right track it seems ok now.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that! I played a little bit of my Terminator Salvation rip for some visitors yesterday. Although I forgot to check the soundtrack I did note that it sounded every bit as good as the Blu-ray I usually demo.

Hello all!

i know this has been asked a bunch of times. I have all my tv shows as dvd rip iso. Now XBMC plays them just fine. I would like to have the individual episodes broken out on the with scraper info. I do not care that if i select ep #3 it just starts the DVD from the beginning.

I just want the show info. I have it as TV SHOWS/4Supernatural/Season 1/DVD1 for now. I have changed that DVD1 to S01E01E02 and so forth. Upper case and lower and it still does not work.

I don't want to write code for every DVD i have telling XBMC how many shows are on each DVD. Nor do i want to go back and re rip all the shows to single iso. I tried Media Companion and could not get any better results there.

Is this possible? Seems silly that i cannot title my iso to tell XBMC what it is but who knows.

Help please and thank you.

Hello all, I have an Acer Revo RL70 connected via a high speed wired LAN to a Synology NAS and I have tried everything under the sun and cannot get Bluray ISO's to play smoothly. Is this unit just not cutting it or am I missing something. I have a Dune that plays everything flawlessly. I was just looking for a nicer interface but, I'm about to give up on it.... Thanks for any advice.

If you want bookmarks vice navigate from top menu, you probably have to do that manually by edit of ifo, but in Media Companion, try using name such as:
4Supernatural S01E01 S01E02 S01E03.iso
and that should scrape, assuming it's in TVDB. (I don't think the space is needed, just for convenience, nothing or "." probably works.) BTW I can't find any series as 4Supernatural in TVDB, may be part of your problem.

If you like playing with Regex, you can probably add some other naming variation to Media Companion, or XBMC for that matter. I just use the default
Code:
[Ss]([\d]{1,4}).?[Ee]([\d]{1,4})

Your naming convention should work as described, however as Scott has alluded to, might be time to check the name of the show - no 4Supernatural exists on the tvdb. If there is such a show, you'll need to either create an nfo yourself or create the show on tvdb.

Correct the show name and S01E01E02 etc should work, without the need to alter or create regexps, or the use of a third party scraper.

FYI and anyone else looking in the Season folder is superfluous and not needed, the filename with a season number is adequate below the 'show' folder for scraping. I appreciate folks (myself included) may use it to keep things neat, but its not needed.

GreenEyez, you still around?

Has anyone made a guide for the new Aeon MQ4? Was considering the change to MQ4.

GreenEyez, I know your guide originally had MQ3 shown as the setup, but I thought you weren't using that one. What skin are you using these days?

Thanks toohip. I did see those, when I have been looking around the XBMC forum, but didn't find them very helpful. Maybe it's just me, but I found the music, with no explanation, no talking, etc... very difficult to follow. Also, at times it seemed as if they were bouncing around a ton, only to end right back up where they were, before doing anything.

To me, those videos were more "previews" than anything.

I'll just download the skin and putz around with it, to see if I can figure it out.

Although, I do appreciate you responding with the links....

I found it somewhat helpful to download the vids and run at 1/4 speed, but even then at some point it seems like "random clicking" as it is hard to figure out what exactly is the objective. I have a "test system" running MQ4 and I am trying to dig through menus as much as possible to figure out how stuff is organized.

I am cautiously optimistic that I had a breakthrough last night and am now running with XBMC playing the content at the correct refresh rating.

At first I was messing around with the nvidia control panel trying to set up a custom resolution at 23.976. I already had a custom resolution for my desktop set at 1920x816 60p. I had a heck of a time getting any other custom refresh rate to save, Nvidia panel is pretty buggy with the saving feature, you can't just click "save" and expect it to work, you have to have the right mix of check boxes checked and unchecked and then click "save". I was never able to get a 23.976 set up that played nicely with my RS1 projector though.

After no luck on that I went into xbmc and set the refresh rate to sync to the source, had the xbmc resolution set at my custom 1920x816 60p, and loaded up a 24fps movie. It worked!!! I hit the button to bring up the menu overlay and it showed the video refresh bouncing back between 23.9 and 24hz.

After success with that I thought maybe it would work now at 1080p so I set the xbmc res up to that and tried it again, and again it locked up. Now this got me thinking, it works with a custom res but it locks up at the standard res!?! So what would happen if I always run at a custom res? With this in mind I went into the nvidia control panel again and set up a custom resolution for 1920x1072 60p. Then I went back into xbmc and set it for that custom resolution, had the playback refresh synced to the material, loaded up a 24fps movie, and again it seemed to work. At that point I may have heard angels singing.

Why did this seemingly work? I don't know, I have some guesses but nothing concrete. I need to take the time to watch a full movie with these settings and verify it really works.
Hate to burst your bubble mate, but I'm sure that the stat you refer to is only what the native fps is of the file being played and not what it is actually being displayed at on the screen (Check it without the adjust refresh rate turned on - it records the same thing at 24p, 50p and 60p). If you've set the desktop resolution to 'any res' 60p, then it will playback at 60p with attendant pulldown, not the 23.976 you desire. Only way to get that is to do as you have attempted to and set a custom resolution for 24p, or settle for the default 24p, which on my nvidia card was way off the mark.

I upgrade to the most recent drivers 306.23 (I had problems with other drivers, not retaining the custom settings - which seems to be resolved in this revision). Have you had a look at this thread http://www.avsforum.com/t/1417683/madvr-intel-igp-and-ram-speed/150, might be worth a look. Some tinkering may be required to get close to 23.976.

Good luck - again.

you are right, I will put the champagne away. Thanks for the link, will check it out.
Ok Steelman I may have got it working...sort of. Some reading and some help from the forum for my Onkyo receiver suggested that the Onkyo doesn't like RGB input and tat I should go into the nvidia control panel and set things to YcBcr. I did that last night and also set the color to the 1-236 overriding the previous 0-255. Changed my hdmi input settings on the projector to match and recalibrated the brightness and contrast.

I then tried to set custom resolutions and refreshes for 23.976 and double that, neither would sync with the projector. Then I tried setting the desktop to 23hz using the default one already set up in nvida control panel, it did sync. You have to deal with a low refresh desktop but that isn't too big of an issue since this htpc is only going to be used for movies through xbmc.

Leaving the desktop at 23hz I went into xbmc and instead of setting it to adjust refresh to the source, I set it to sync source to the display. Played through some movies and they work. I do believe it is playing them back at 24p this time, although I was wrong before so I may be wrong again.

The other drawback to doing all this is that I somehow lost my onscreen onkyo volume display, not sure why but maybe it doesn't play nice with some of the new nvidia settings.

Wow I find XBMC confusing...

I hate the Aeon Skin.

Can someone please recommend an XBMC skin made for Mice users?

I don't plan on using a remote, just a mouse with a scroll wheel. I want everything to be left clickable. Basically I want to make XBMC as similar to Media Browser Chocolate skin as possible.

Default Confluence skin

Hey everyone new XBMC user here. Migrating from WMC7 as it seems support for that product is dwindling while XBMC is ramping up. XBMC 11 with the audio plugin. Confluence (default) skin. Installed on a Windows environment.

Four questions so far:
1) Can I turn down the volume on the navigation clicks? Very annoying while listening to music and navigating. Disabling it would be OK too
2) I am having issues using the "i" button to bring up the context menu. If I actually move the mouse over the item I'm trying to open (as opposed to using my remote or keyboard to navigate there with the arrow keys) it works, otherwise it will just perform a "right click" action wherever the mouse pointer actually is. I tried disabling the mouse altogether but that did not seem to help either.
3) I have all my videos and music sorted in a file structure that I would like displayed. Using the file view is great, but I would like to make it look more like a library view where I don't have the "add-ons" and "add files" options show up. The music library especially needs this - scanning my music to the library did not provide the navigating experience that I would like.
4) For the videos sub-section on the home screen I would like to replace the "movies" and "tv shows" sub menu items that show up with these: "non fiction and nature" "movies" "tv shows" "concerts" "standup comedy" "documentaries" "music videos". I'm OK so far using external metadata on TV shows and movies and would prefer to not use the "special library types" for those two sections, but to get all of my video folders to show up on the sub menu.

So far looking pretty good! Snappy response and it is handling my large media libraries well. I still need to get down and dirty with bluray rips and HD audio.

Having an minor issue with new ipad /(ios 6.0) and "Official Xbmc Remote" I am able to connect to it and the control work on the ipad. The issue I am having is that there is no cover art on all my movies, and musics. On the ipad I do see the movies title, and musics with songs and artists. How do I get the cover art to show up.? On my other tablet Transformer running Jellybean with the same app I am able to download all the covers and it does show up on the tablet but I cant get it to work on the ipad app. I also try XBMC Commander app and that app is able to see my movies and music, but just like Xbmc remote there is no cover art. On Commander app there is a option to download all data which I believe is cover art.. After downloading all my data it still does not display cover art. Am I missing a step or two? Thanks

Awesome! Btw, does anyone know which PVR programs support CableCard? I know NextPVR and MythTV do, and Media Portal has alpha support. Any others?

Is that app a remote though? It seems to be more "get XBMC on your phone" type of app.
