Right now I just have
band - song title.mkv

IMHO the XBMC wiki isn't so good when it comes to music video. It's also a problem of how skins deal them. From what I've seen in default Confluence, Music video behaves like other video db items, but there is also linkage in the skin to "artist" and "album".

I believe XBMC will parse the filename in the video library update process expecting something like artist - songtitle. Those are used by the scraper to compose a search url to scrape data on the file (unless you have a paired nfo file). The video database will update musicvideo data table with title, artist, and album (main metadata). A link to art will allow a thumb, poster and fanart assigned to each MV file. Also, the artist is stored into the actors table and an artist (actor) thumb can be saved. I know thumb can be generated from the MV file itself (if auto-thumb is selected in settings options). I don't know exactly how local art is selected (for example, folder.jpg, fanart.jpg from containing folder).

It seems like MV artist and album data can also be used to find details in the music database, but I'm not sure how that works or maybe I am wrong on this. Note that MV doesn't have a concept of "album artist".

Personally I have my musicvideo source set up musicvideo\artitstname\albumname\. I haven't figured out how best to store local art.

Anyone else can correct or provide more info would appreciate it.

What exactly does Hardware Acceleration (DXVA2) do?

Does it improve picture quality? Turn it on when you have a discreet graphic card?

It offloads decoding to the processor on the video card, instead of using the main CPU to do it. If your graphics card supports it, you should use it for better video decoding performance and less taxing of your CPU (/heat/fan noise).

Has anybody run into what seems to be a slight crackling audio noise when letting xbmc built in player play a mkv file? I get this on all files...Not bad, just something I notice..I thought I had read others had this problem and there was a simple fix.. But can't find it now. Just curious. If necessary could just set it up so zoomplayer plays all my media, which is what I'm used to anyway.

Try messing around with the audio settings. For instance, if you're using WASAPI, try Direct Sound.

I'm new to XBMC. For DVDs in my system, each DVD is in a folder with a name (and most of them have the year, although many do not). Under each folder are Audio_TS and Video_TS files. The Audio_TS folder has nothing in it. The Video_TS folder has number of files, .VOB, .IFO, and .BUP. The main folder for each DVD has a few files, JPG, XML, and NFO. Which one of these files should I be renaming to a title and the date?

Also, Amadeus has two disks. Do I follow a similar format (e.g., Amadeus (19xx))? What about the individual disks? "Amadeaus (19xx), Disk 1"?

Thank you.

PAUSE in XBMC.

When you pause a movie in XBMC, the screen darkened, you see the big PAUSE word, and details of the movie pops up.

Is there a way to get rid of all this? So when you pause the movie, all you got is a frozen frame just like pausing it on a blu-ray player?

Are you using space bar key for pause/play? Make sure you are, I don't have the same behavior you describe using this key. See here:

This is 'skin' dependant, certainly doesn't happen on the default Confluence skin. Choices are either to recode the skin xml files, ask the skin dev to change it, or use another skin. Either way the best place to ask would be in the skin sub forum on xbmc forums

I've experienced some odd behavior after upgrading from XBMC 11.0 to 12.0. Wonder if anyone has any ideas on how to fix.

I've noticed that with XBMC 12.0 my videos and/or display will move in and out of alignment. This was not something I experienced with XBMC 11.0.

I am using the dot by dot display mode on my Pioneer 6010 television. When I start up Windows or start XBMC everything is aligned properly. No black bars on any of the edges, all text visible, etc. Image goes right to the edges. No under-scan or over-scan. I can watch a movie or a tv show or two and everything is fine. And then randomly I will notice that the display has shifted up several pixels, enough that there is a now a narrow black bar on the bottom of my display and text that was readable at the top of the display has now partially moved off screen. This will then appear in the main screen or while watching a video.

If I re-start XBMC or reboot my PC this will correct itself but it ultimately returns. If I don't re-start or reboot after a period of time it often will correct itself as well.

Using the video calibration feature is not the answer as well. When it gets out of alignment I can use the video calibration feature it to make an adjustment and re-align the display, but it will then get ut of alignment after using calibration as well.

Any idea on what I can do to keep this from happening? I am driving my Pioneer 6010 display via an Nvidia GeForce GT 430 card and HDMI through my AVR. Any settings in the card itself to keep this from happening or in the display?

Thanks!

@ anleva, you haven't activated the Pioneer's 'orbiter' feature by mistake. Seen reports that indicate it can, in some instances, move the picture in the manner you describe.

I'll check tonight. I didn't adjust anything on the Pio though in the upgrade to 12. If I remember correctly the orbiter was to move the pixels slightly to prevent burn-in right?

I believe so (I have the 5010, but its never been switched on) - the suggestion was/is just a guess. Certainly a strange behaviour and one I haven't noticed.

Which graphics card are you using? nVidia by any chance? I noticed there are some settings on scaling in the nVidia control panel. Whether the GPU or the display does the scaling and 3 different options for sizing. I was thinking some of those settings might help here. I was thinking somehow things are getting re-scaled improperly?

I have read in the past people mention that their video calibration settings in XBMC don't stick. That is they work for that session but when they exit and re-entered XBMC they would revert back to how they were originally. But it's odd that for me one second everything looks great and is in alignment and then all of a sudden everything has moved up and I'm seeing a black bar.

Anyone still using Ember Media Manager and having trouble downloading full-size wallpapers/fanart? I'm using EMM 1.3.0.9 and when I download info for a new movie, the images it's downloading are only 300x188. It used to download large 1920x1080 wallpapers. I don't recall changing any settings that would cause this.

Ideas?

This happened to me once, but it was after I changed the playercorefactory and advancedsettings xmls back and forth a few times

I just setup a central mysql library for the first time this week and added the advancedsettings xml. All my video settings stuck, did you change or add any player configurations

So far I am disappointed with frodo 12. It crashes far too often for me. At least 2 times a day.

Mine has only crashed maybe three times total since I started using it during the RC phases. So YMMV. If you post your logs to the XBMC forum someone might be able to help you track down what's causing the issue.

I'm sticking with Eden until somebody comes up with a "dual-audio" patch for Frodo (if ever!)
Is it possible to go back to Eden?

What would need patching?

No, I don't do live TV on xbmc. It happens when I'm playing movies or music.
What OS are you using lulimet? Also having an idea of the hardware would be helpful. I have Frodo running on four different PCs here, I still have to experience a single crash.

Win 7 Home premium. It's an Acer Revo 3700. Atom D525 processor with nVidia Ion 2 video. I never had this problem with Eden.

Hey,
This guide is awesome! Any word on when it will get updated for Frodo? I am about to put together my first HTPC.

Anyone have problems updating their movies playlists?

So, I've created different playlists for the different genres of movies (e.g. Action, Horror, Kids, etc.)

After I add new movies, XBMC won't find them so I tried to update the playlist and always get the error message "Can't Download Content...blah..blah".

I don't get it, what's there to download? The movie is there, all the posters and backdrops are there. I used MCM to scrape the metadata.

Did I missed any settings or something? Anyone having this problem?

That's pretty much the same hardware in one of my machines, which is fine, except it can get quite warm after a few hours of usage. It needs good ventilation. Could it be an overheating problem? Is the whole machine crashing, or just xbmc?
