I put a file called folder.jpg in the same folder as the movie or cd album containing the artwork.

The XBMC wiki goes into more detail here
http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=thumbnails
http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Frodo_FAQ#Local_images

You can also embed the artwork if the file container (.mkv, .mp4 etc) supports it but it is more complicated

Yea iv tried the wiki to no luck. I have all mkv so maybe they are stored in there. How do I point my skin at it so that it can display it in the background of the main menu in aeon nox?

I use the default confluence skin. Take a look at the wiki for setting a custom background in confluence below, perhaps you can find the same knob in aeon.

Try doing a wildcard search in Windows Explorer for files with nfo extension. (*.nfo) Your files might be in the same folder as those.

I've read of problems running XBMC with Haswell CPUs (here and other forums). Anyone know if that's just for the core i3 and up CPUs? Are there problems running XBMC with a Pentium G3220 Haswell CPU?

PS: I'm going to build my first HTPC and never used or know anything about XBMC (or even WMC).

Given that the Panasonic VT50 suffers a bit from flickering with 24p content @ 96hz, is it better to have "adjust display refresh rate to match video" set to off or on (and setting the VT50 to use 60hz)? Or is there no difference?

Hi every1. Please, I need your help! I'm trying to play Blu Ray discs and folders in XBMC, but I can't make it! I'll use TMT 6, but I've try everything without succes. After I stoped use Reclok - that causes audio and video issues - I discover XBMC, that play my MKVs files just fine. But my TMT 6 still play videos with random freezes. So I decided to use XBMC to play Blu Rays. But after try everything - since modified files - I almost giving up of usying it. How can I use TMT 6 as a external player for XBMC? Is this possible? Some1 have a step-by-step instruction? Thank you! (sorry for the bad english, but I really need your help)

Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping someone will be able to help me out. I'm having an issue where I'm not sure if my XBMC setup is outputting 1080/24p for content that is at that framerate. Before I get into more detail, here's my setup:

Asrock ION 3D 152B (ION 2) - Running Windows 7 32-bit with XBMC v12.2 connected via HDMI to
Yamaha RX-V661 which is HDMI connected to
Samsung UN65F8000 LED TV

The issue I'm having is by default when navigating XBMC, my TV shows I'm running at 1080/60p. I have enabled "Adjust Display refresh rate to match video" to start stop. When I start a movie that I have verfied has a framerate of 24p, the tv goes blank for a sec as if to change framerates, but then just displays 1080/60p. The TV never switches to 1080/24p (or at least it's not telling me it's running at 24p...shows 60p). I'm running the latest nvidia drivers (I do not recall the version right now). Here's the current XBMC settings I have:

System Settings:

Use a fullscreen window rather than true fullscreen - tried both enabled and disabled
Vertical Blank Sync - Always enabled

Video Settings:

Render Method - DXVA
Allow Hardware Acceleration (DXVA2) - Enabled
Adjust Display refresh rate to match video - On start/stop
Pause during refresh rate change - disable
sync playback to display - tried both enabled and disabled

Audio Settings:

Audio Output device and Passthrough Device are both set to WASAPI

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately XBMC forums aren't responding right now, but there is a pretty good step by step here forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=64658

I don't remember any specific problems anyone has had with TMT in XBMC. Did you add a custom "playercorefactory.xml" to your userdata folder? Paste it here, and I can take a look at it for you. For XML files, be sure to use the forum's CODE option to insert text and preserve formatting

Here's what I think is happening:

XBMC is switching the "input" refresh rate to your AVR, but your Yamaha is not set to "passthrough" resolution/refresh rate. Everything out of your receiver is being upscaled/converted to 1080p/60 no matter the input.

Here are the typical solutions:
  • Ensure the HDMI your connected to supports 24
  • Ensure your AVR video settings are correct

That being said, you already posted your HDTV/AVR model/make so I should be able to do all of these for you. Sorry, but I'm too lazy and can only offer a starting point right now for your avr. http://www.avsforum.com/t/822161/yamaha-rx-v661-owners-thread/3800_100#post_18653829

I'd start by going direct to your UN65F8000 (same input your AVR goes to currently) and see if things adjust to 1080/24 (if not try a different HDMI input)

Then reconnect as you were but be sure to use the same HDMI input on the TV. Then make sure to try both AVR HDMI inputs. If your still not getting the adjustment begin digging through that owner's thread. After all that your problem would be pretty narrowed, and you could ask in your own thread about forcing the refresh rate adjustment with your Receiver / graphics card. I use neither that GPU nor that AVR and can't offer much else.

So one thing I forgot to mention is back when I had a PS3, I had it connected to my AVR then connected to the TV. When I used to enable 1080/24p on Blu-rays, the AVR used to pass it to the TV no problem. So I never tried to bypass the AVR because of this....but I will try it.

I have a feeling it might be some setting on the TV or with the nvidia drivers, but I could be wrong. I'll try different HDMI inputs on the AVR and TV and report back. But as far as you know, the settings in XBMC are correct? Are there any custom XML files I should be using?? Any extra lines of code I should put into advancedsettings.xml for example?

The settings you have auto-adjust the refresh rate on my display (at least they did when I tried it out)

If the "quick switch" option doesn't work with any of the inputs, then you may be in for a ride. I know there's an override option in XBMC for adjusting refresh rate in advanced settings (section 3.46 of http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Advancedsettings.xml), but I don't know if that will be of use to you in case the problem lies in your gpu. It seems like your looking at a problem outside XBMC, but related to your particular setup.

@Dr_Kn0w - does 1080p24 show up as an option in your Video settings dialog?

All my XBMC knowledge is on Linux based systems, but if you don't see it in this screen you won't be able to load it on playback.

Forgive my ignorance, but when you say "does 1080p24 show up as an option in your Video settings dialog" do you mean in the XBMC Video settings section? If so, on the Windows version of XBMC, it only shows the initial resolution (IE: 1920x1080, 1280x720, etc) but does not list 24p/24hz or 60p/60hz.

If that's not what you're talking about, then please let me know where to check for this info.....

Dark_Slayer - Don't know that would be any help. AFAIK that only shows what xbmc is receiving from the mediainfo of the file, not what refresh rate is being displayed or played back.

On my TV the info button on the TV remote tells be the refresh rate and resolution.

Mine too David, but that's not what Dark_Slayer is referring to - he is referring to the stats OSD within xbmc (navigated to by pressing 'o' while playing a media file).

Fyi,

For those of you who are also Media Browser users, the server now has the ability to manage NFO files as well:

MB3 server just got real. Might be bringing the client and MBT back into the picture smile.gif

You mention create/editing of nfo's is available? Is this functionality only available to MB clients and the HTML5 web editor? Or will it pick up nfo changes made by XBMC clients???

Specifically interested in the playcount item within XBMCs NFO, because if XBMC updates that to 1 or greater the watched status shows up. Would the plugin be polling for NFO updates and incorporate the watched status into MB3 server?

If so ---> cool.gif
Right now we write nfo's so that XBMC can use them. We don't actually read them, although we can in the future if you'd like. This whole plugin started because we had a few xbmc users who preferred the metadata that we get, so they wanted us to be able to save to their NFO's.

Right now in the plugin's configuration you can chose a user, and it will save the user play count information in the nfo, along with watched and position. But as mentioned, it currently does not read the files if you make changes to them.

Okay, so I bypassed my receiver and direcly connected my HTPC to the TV. Low and behold, 24p works! So it appears my receiver was not passing the 24p through. I find that weird cuz as I mentioned previously, I was able to pass 24p when my PS3 was connected to my receiver. Maybe that is because the PS3 forces the refresh rate??

If that is the case, do you think the refresh rate settings for advancedsettings.xml will help or am I SOL?

On another sort of related topic - My LED TV has a refresh rate of 240Hz. For this specific TV (I've asked this question in this TV's owner's thread...no responses) is it really required to enable 24p for this TV? Meaning does this TV even use 3:2 pulldown, or will it work some kind of magic in the background?

@Dr_Kn0w - if you have 23.976 Hz enabled properly your display refresh rate should be that as well. My plasma does so running through a Denon rxr from an XBMC Linux HTPC.

In order to get this to work 100% accurate I had to setup 'custom modelines' in /etc/X11/xorg.conf for XBMC on Linux...the modeline info was presented from the Denon rxr NOT the plasma...none of this might help you for Windows-land sorry...

I've done some googling and haven't found good answer either on how to make the 'refresh rate' option show up.

My two Ubuntu minimal boxes with Nvidia binary drivers have this refresh rate option...other Linux laptop does not...I'm guessing it doesn't show up on the laptop since it's just using default Linux Intel GPU drivers...everything is run at 60 / 59.94 Hz including the HDMI output. I could perhaps get this to work on laptop too, but it would likely require some more modeline futzing.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The more I think about it your issue the more it sounds like the XBMC / the PC is not getting the proper EDID info from the Amp. I'd try to focus on that...http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=146911

The custom modelines thing on Linux is related to this problem as well BTW...

Thanks! I really appreciate the effort in trying to resolve my issue even though you're not 100% familiar with this in a Windows environment. I will check out the thread you recommended and report back if I find some sort of solution.

I think you may have more luck checking your receivers settings for a 'through' setting, which won't interfere with signal. lLooks like its processing the signal prior to passing to the tv.
Hi guys,

I have zero experience with skin editing etc. so please take that in count when reading this topic smile.gif

I am using the Aeon MQ4 skin with the MULTIPLEX view. What I want is XBMC to show me what type of movie it is when scrolling through my library. With this I mean specifically: I want to be able to see in a elegant way which type the movie is. I want to see 4 different kinds of movies:
1. movies that are not D-Box and not 3D
2. movies that are not 3D but only D-Box
3. movies that are not D-Box but only 3D
4. movies that are both D-Box and 3D supported

I think that the nicest solution would be to have 4 kind of covers (I don t want cases!)
1. a cover with no information on it (so only the movie cover).
2. a cover with a small D-Box logo (eg. in the corner)
3. a cover with a small 3D logo
4. a cover with both a small D-Box and 3D logo

User butchabay already helped me on my way with this by doing something with the MEDIA FLAGS.
wq7_Hj.jpg
At this moment I only have the D-Box logo working for my movies that are D-Box supported. I had to make this work by doing this:
1. Rename the logo http://i.imgur.com/47GOi.png to dbox-logo.png
2. Put the logo in C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\addons\skin.aeonmq.4\media
3. Replace MediaFurniture.xml in C:\Program Files (x86)\XBMC\addons\skin.aeonmq.4\720p with this file https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2xPvwtDF2aMRTdEVHlUdnkxZkU
4. Rename all my D-Box supported movie folders from eg. Avatar to Avatar.dbox (I use one folder for each movie)
5. Rescan my movies

So IF you guys cannot help me with the 'cover solution' I talked about maybe I can extend the 'media flags solution' that user batchabay made for me. Only thing is that I would need to change a few things which I don t know how to do this myself.

I can imagine that I will have 4 different movie folders in the end:
1. C:\Movies\Avatar
2. C:\Movies\Avatar.dbox
3. C:\Movies\Avatar.3d
4. C:\Movies\Avatar.dbox3d

This D-Box logo I would like to use:
http://i.imgur.com/47GOi.png

This 3D logo I would like to use:
Blu_ray_3_D.jpg

IF you guys can help me with the 'cover solution' it would be great.
if you guys can help me with the 'media flags solution' I hope someone can make me a MediaFurniture.xml for my purpose. Also I would like to DISABLE all other media flags. So:

1. No media flags for a movie that is not D-Box and not 3D (for folder eg. C:\Movies\Avatar)
2. A D-box media flag for a movie that is D-Box but not 3D (for folder eg. C:\Movies\The Beach.dbox)
3. A 3D media flag for a movie that is 3D but not D-Box (for folder eg. C:\Movies\The Great Gatsby.3d)
4. Both the D-Box and 3D media flag for a movie that is 3D and D-Box (for folder eg. C:\Movies\WreckItRalph.dbox3d)

For the media flags solution I would also like (if it is possible):
1. for a movie that is D-Box but not 3D show the D-Box logo at the far left corner
2. for a movie that is 3D but not D-Box ALSO show the D-Box logo at the far left corner (at the same place as 1!)
3. for a movie that is both 3D and D-Box show the D-Box logo at the far left corner and the 3D logo on the right next to it.

I hope it is a little bit understandable what I m looking for and if someone can help me with this.

Quick question:
I am using Frodo 12.2/MQ4 skin

I have movies and TV shows setup from my server. I would like to add items like documentaries, concerts, kids movies, etc in the same fashion as Movies/TV shows as a principle item in XBMC. How do I do this.

Also, I use Media Center Master to scrape all my content. What are the best setting in xbmc so that it lets MCM do all the work and no re-scrape?

thanks

Are your movies in different folders on the server? Also, you should go ahead an update to MQ5. Stable at this point and lighter weight

If your movies are in different folders, you could easily do this in MQs skins . . .

As someone who's using MQ4, you probably already know how to add multiple sources into the default "Movies" category under sources

What you want to do instead, is create a source for each folder. - i.e. add //path/to/documentaries as it's own source, and tell it to scrape as videos. Then kids, etc. Each one separate, don't bundle them into the movies source.

As to the scraping, XBMC will scrape the nfo and look at TMDB if something is missing. If you have used MCM to scrape all your movies and generate nfos, then it won't be rescraping that info. It does, however, still take a while the first time because it is creating a videodb from all your nfos in the collections you add. Don't mistake this for re-writing your MCM data, which it's not (I use MCM as well)

Now, when you are in MQ5 go to settings -> edit main menu

For the main menu editor, you probably want to hide the default movies. Then go to one of the 7 custom menu entries. It will ask you what you would like to 'replace with' and you should choose a "Video Node" . . . here is a picture

When selecting your video node, go to Videos->Files->Documentaries. Documentaries, kids, etc will show up under files if you followed my instructions above. Then you can replace the backdrop (or use multiple rotating backdrops) as well. You'll also want to rename the menu item to match your collection

Then go to your next Custom menu item and repeat for all your folders

Dark_Slayer: Thanks for helping me out.

Each of my folders on server are separate:

Omega (sever)
- Movies
- TV shows
(so far, this is all that has been added, I have used MCM to scrape all of them, etc. But when added to XBMC, alot of info is not showing up. in MCM I have set it up so that it creates xbmc NFO's)

after the above, I also have the following folders yet to be added to XBMC
- Concerts
-Demo
- Kids Movies
- Kids TV shows
- Foreign Film

Also, thank for the scraping info - my movie collection is 900+ so it must take time to create the videodb.

Where do i get MQ5 from. I have his repository, but MQ5 was not in there for me to add as a skin.

When I get home tonight after work, I will load MQ5, then following the above. I think thats what i did wrong - ie, not adding the content before the playlist.

Again, thank you for your help - its very much appreciated.
