wilson art 5x10 screen questions

looking at the WA 5x10 for my panny 4k- couple questions:
1. Whats a good size for the 2.35:1 from this sheet? LxW
2. any good ways to attach it to wall and keep flat?
3. if screwed to wall- I would need maybe 1" of space to screw it in- wou;ld have to reduce size

just trying to get th emost out of a 5x10 sheet- want to keep as large as possible, while being able to attach to wall- I screwed the last one to wall- kinda ghetto.

help!

yes- i AM that dumb.

I just dont want to spend $ for a sheet/frame/masking to have it not fit correctly with th projector...

Given 10 / 5 = 2 and you need 2.35~2.40, you best bet is max out the width, reducing the height and use the excess top and bottom to attach the screen to the wall. You can always mask that latter with timbre covered in black velvet or car carpet.

you say your "looking at it" so i assume you have not bought it. I say get the 5x12 sheet instead, it is almost perfect 2.35:1 ratio already and you just need to mask the sides for 1.78 content. I have an ae3000 and it works great for me. bought some wood and brackets and built a frame, screwed it on and it works fine.

You need to mark out your screen at 120" x 50" for a 2.4:1 screen. You can use the rest to mount and then cover with a mask.

Have you checked out these very complete threads?

DIY Screen FAQ/Reference and then this one for lamiante in paticular Laminate Screen Material and Testing! .
Besides the 2:35:1 aspect ratio thing all your Q's I'd say have been asked there and many-many good examples, along with build pictures and different methods.

I'd also say post room dim's seating layout, speaker locations, etc....many things to consider....
Picture/graphic design is best for other members to quickly assess your situtation and offer advice.

Why not use wall, paint?

If you have a wall upon which to afix a screen, is the wall reasonably smooth?

Instead of fussing with a screen, paint the wall with white primer, then paint it white.

Because unless the surface is perfect, brush or roller marks can be seen.

I have a WA Screen. I'm pretty sure I bought the 5x10 sheet. My final screen is like 108.75 x 83.5. (Scope)

I made a frame from tubular aluminum and then bought heavy duty velcro tape to mount the screen to the frame.

To mount to the wall, I used a commercial french cleat from HD that is made from two long pieces of aluminum.

The whole thing was dead easy and took an evening to put together. The only potentially hard part was running a router around the edge to trim it up. Makes a huge mess. Do it in your garage on the floor.

Its been a great project. Good color repro and I never worry if the kids get close to it. I've got a PT-AE1000U that is very happy with this screen.

i got the 4000 going- and zoomed all the way out with 2.4 movie in, i still have about 2" width not filled- should i just make the frame the witdt i am getting?

put in a 2:35 movie- zoomed all the way out i am getting 117.25" x 50"...
this seem OK to make my sceen frame to?

Measure many times, cut once

For a 2.35:1 screen you need 117.5 wide [50 x 2.35 = 117.5] and for a 2.40:1 screen you need 120 wide [50 x 2.40] which is probably best for zooming anyway.

I've decided to use this thread as it does discuss the issue that I need clarification on.
I've just bought the Ae4000u and have a sheet of the WA on order to make my own screen.
It will be a CIH. Is the Ae4000 a 2:35 or 2.40? I've found reference to both. The manual says 2.35 but Projector Central says 2.40. With a 42" high screen there would be 2" difference in width depending on whether its 2.35 or 2.40. Which is the way to go?

2.35 or 2.40 is not a function of the projector, it is a characteristic of the content/movie itself. I have an ae3000 and am switching 1.78 and 2.35/2.40 myself and love it, it works great. i have a 5x12 WA screen also. it is basically a perfect 2.35 fit.

you are essentially just adjusting the size and position of the movie content to fit your screen.

16/9 = 1.777777778 ratio you PJ digital panels, now multiply that by a-lens 4/3 expansion and you get 2.37037, so most people make their screen to 2.37 by design.
It's easier for marketing types to say 2.35 or 2.40 as rounding the decimal and less explain to people.

In the end, you'll probably slightly overscann into your black velvet border anyway, so we are splitting hairs here....good luck with the screen build.
