Jim - Is this is a light controlled room?
For reference, my current screen is a 142" 16:9 dalite high power with the 2.8 material. With my masks on, my 2:35:1 setup is also 133" Diag.
it will depend on your expectations of brightness as the lamp dims. My first lamp on my RS50 dimmed quite a bit (about 40% in 250 hours) and I lost a good bit of light during the initial calibration. The 2.8 high power screen works wonders to keep it still enjoyable, but I finally got the point where I had to stop watching 3D but 2D was still fine. Not bright, but still ok with it in a lights out environment.
The bad thing is though, I have other (brighter) projectors as well. So when I see the lumens they put out in 2D and 3D, it does leave me wanting more with such a large screen. I am an admitted brightness fanatic, so my version of 'not bright enough' might be just fine for others.
For a quick comparison, my new Sony HW30 is a fair margin brighter than the RS50 (both with new lamps) and there are scenes in 3D where I will have to squint, even through the shutter glasses. This is my idea of 3D. very bright and easy to see.
I think you will be ok with 1.8 gain at that size as long as you can position the projector for maximum gain.
if I recall correctly, you also have a CRT projector. What are your thoughts by comparison so far, or is it too early to decide?
