2 questions:
1-How can one be sure that whatever BR player you use, that there is not some downconversion of the files to make them readable without problems on whatever display panel
2- Are you sure that bad outcome of your experimental method is not linked to other factors like different dvd quality used I mentioned in onother post ( or other factors )

The GH2 and TM700 are not the same since the GH2 has a much larger sensor and no power zoom lenses. I have the GH2 coming today and it will not be used for the same type of videos that I shoot with my TM700 since I will only be using it with manual focus lenses like with my Pentax K-7.

I think TM700 will be ideal for me since I am a beginner. I really want to learn how to make simple short films, you know, just for hobby and fun. Someone already gave me links on where to buy materials to make a 35mm adapter.

Do you like your TM700? This guy who gave the links loves his TM700 a lot.

With my PS3 slim using latest firmware version, all 4 clips were fine, no issues. However, on the last clip, it was fine for the first 10 seconds. After this, it would pause for split second, no audio for that split second. It did it ever 3 seconds gap until the clip ended.

UPDATE:

Just read from above that aznative and I have the same experience with PS3 slim.

Yup. First, I checked the contents of the image before I burned it. So I mounted the iso.

I did a dir listing so you can see how the AVCHD structure was laid out.

I watched all the clips on my linux using command line mplayer and it played flawlessly. My system is an i7, ATI 4850 or 4870(couldn't remember) and 4gig ram, Fedora 12. The native TM700 is 00004.m2ts.

I burned the iso image using imgburn. Tested it with PS3 slim and my Pioneer BDP-320.

I'm going to test it again with on my Pioneer since the volume when I tested it was low. For the PS3 slim, guaranteed that it's choppy in the 5th clip.

Addendum to my first reply on this. It turns out that I had made a mistake while burning the ISO image on a DVD.

Upon correctly burning your ISO image a second time, it does play in my Sharp Aquos BD-HP21 drive (even though it is not advertised as AVCHD compliant). The first few files play perfectly, but the very last file starts to play fine but stutters slightly after about 10 seconds or so. Looks like the disk isn't spinning fast enough, because if I pause playback and then continue, it's fine again for about another 10 seconds or so, and stuttering comes back. It looks like the internal playback memory buffer is emptying by data starvation.

Just thought I'd let you know...

1. So you tested with a DVD-R, and not a BD-R. You are the first to demonstrate that DVD-R has sufficient bandwidth to support 28mbps 1920x1080/60p streams. Congratulations.

2. If you have access to BD burner, perhaps you like to burn a BD-R copy and test it on your PS3.

Sorry for not updating it last night. I was tired so post my results. On my Pioneer, the first few clips played fine but the last 2, the audio was cutting.

However, on PS3 slim using the burned iso image on DVD-R, first 4 clips played really smooth and fine but not the last. Like the previous poster, rewinding it will play it fine. I guess if the player can add another larger buffer, it would solve the issue.

I don't have a BD recorder.

Pardon my intrusion. You guys seems to be experts, so I could not resist asking.

I just bought TM700. I play the files on HTPC connected to 720p projector with HDMI. 1080/60i (HA, 17Mbps) plays about 95% OK. Playback could be smoother. 1080/60p judders a lot.

I guess part of the problem could be hardware of my HTPC or software (codecs etc.). I am suing Windows 7 Media Center to play the files from HDD (WD Black 7200rpm). CPU is AMD 5000 and graphics is on board HD3200. I would appreciate if you could point me in the right direction so that I can enjoy the smooth playback of 1080/60i and 1080/60p files.

Most likely, the culprit is your hardware. I've downloaded 1920x1080 60p sample files past few nights and the playback on my Fedora 12, i7 cpu , Visiontek 4870 is very smooth. I think even my old Nvidia 6600 GT will play it fine as long as cpu is i7.

From what I know, high-bit rate video files are cpu intensive. They are just static frames compared to vector graphics. That's the time you need powerful GPUs.

Sorry to hear that the pioneer cannot handle the 28mbps clip. Back to square one, i suppose.

I think if buffer on the bd players can be increased, problem can be solved. I went back few seconds and it played fine on the spot where it was choppy.

That video card is beefy enough for these types of videos. You need a powerful cpu for this type of videos.

CPU utilization was only 40% during play back. Does this mean CPU was not the limiting factor? Or there something else that I am missing.

When I played the first file, 00000.m2ts, cpu was only 28%.

The 00004.m2ts file is very highly cpu intensive. I'm not familiar with your cpu model. It looks like powerful than i7. Did you play 00004.m2ts file?

By the way, I love this cpu, no stutter on all 5 videos even when played at the same time.

The TM700 generates raw/native *.mts files at 60p. I suspect that your *.m2ts file was rendered in some way. (Likely through a Sony codec at 60i and it looks great on your big screen.)

The TM700 has good PQ in special circumstances but the files to observe it are difficult to play. I suspect that many people, new to HD, are using TM700 rendered files and expressing their amazement - when the rendered file is no better than a HD Canon or Sony of two years ago.

Yeah, they re-encoded it. I'm actually shocked to find out the bitrate, It's 30 mb/s. It's even higher than the 00004.m2ts' bitrate from our avchd iso image. I downloaded the video from Vimeo from here, http://www.vimeo.com/10663543. I had to sign up to download it.



What you don't like about TM700? Please let me know so I can study my decisions. Thanks.

When I played the first file, 00000.m2ts, cpu was only 28%.

The 00004.m2ts file is very highly cpu intensive. I'm not familiar with your cpu model. It looks like powerful than i7. Did you play 00004.m2ts file?

By the way, I love this cpu, no stutter on all 5 videos even when played at the same time.

It is AMD 64 X2 5000. I think I am missing some application. When I tried to play the iso burned onto a DVD (using DVD ROM drive) and 7MC, I got an error - Tp play this DVD, you must first install a playback application that supports Blu-Ray Disc. That application is probably PowerDVD or TotalMedia Theater.

I can confirm that the Oppo BDP-83 with the latest Public Beta Release firmware (BDP83-52-0816B, August 24, 2010) only plays the first file correctly.
In 2-5, the video stutters and the audio is intermittent. This is the .iso burned to DVD-R, not BD.

I did post some interesting findings in the TM700 thread about the Sony BDP-S270.
I have discovered it can play 1080/60p .mts files with no problems at all.

Spurred on by some other posts, I decided to try 00004.m2ts on a USB stick on my PS3 and it's fine even though it still stutters when played back from the AVCHD ISO on DVD+RW. Perhaps your theory about DVD read speeds holds more water than I thought...

I'd also like to try the actual AVCHD-USB format instead of playing it as a media file but I don't know how to author it. I tried just renaming the UDF files to their FAT equivalents and that allowed it to recognize an AVCHD structure but then it said it couldn't play the video.

Is there any interest in this topic still, or has it become irrelevant with AVCHD 2.0? I have a HDC-TM700 recording that may be more of a 1080p60 stress test than the one here, due to some higher peaks (it is slightly lower on average). My PS3 can't play it properly at all, at least not from the SDHC card.
