I was saying spam...because it was me who just kept posting posts after posts. That why I was saying spam. Felt like I was on AOL chat room again.

Glad you liked the samples. I have a long way to go but cant wait to make some samples myself. I have some stupid ideas in my head and cant wait till I can put them on video/audio.

What screws did you use to install your 18's?

on the center 18's I have 3.5" sheet rock screws, four of eight go right into the 2x4 bracing, the other four spin cuz the thread runs out well before the head

On the top two subs I have smaller 2" I think, wish Id have been using those the last 15 years...no predrilling, splitting, so much cleaner and no thread running short.

I love your spam, Ive been sick and you kept me busy. I really like the stuff youve shown me. The thunder makes for boring videos but I love hearing it in person!
Just glad there is another person out there who likes the same as I do.

I was just curious about your screws because I should be ready to start my build here next week. Do your screw heads pull down on the top of the driver or are they pulling down on the bottom of the frame?

I didn't see any screws in the videos so I figured they were pulling down on the bottom of the frame.

Botto of the frame, they drop through the rubber gasket to the steel of the frame. I always predrill the drivers when theyre new or reconed, the glue that holds the surrounds to the baskets usually covers the holes and makes it hard to get the screws started. Ive used fine thread security screws with T-Nuts but they were a BI-OTCH most my life Ive used 2.5"-3.5" drywall screws, too long, 2" is much better. In the van I used 3.5" star head and square head deck screws. The square heads were a huge mistake... the heads round out easy..the star heads were awesome, super grip better than philips. I gotta do some work fixing up the mounting locations in the van... gotta pull 2 screws that the heads had to be drilled off.

I think my baffle was only going to be 1" thick and recessed so I might have to have a 1.25-1.5" baffle and use the 2" screws.

I know on the THT I used hurricane washers or whatever they are called but I ended up stripping one of them in the wood so I didn't know what else was there to use. If yours screws are drywall screws, I have those already, and they are holding your 18s I think my 15s should be fine with them also.

If they dont work you can drill them out and drop hurricanes in there

So why is it Dolby Digital, not DTS? I pulled up the menu and it's Dolby TRUHD...so why isn't my blue HD light on?

Cloverfield is AWESOME! It's got great low content. I gotta say, though, that I am after stuff more like Cloverfield... that super ultra low frequency without massive midbass and highbass mixed in. I love Fringe but it comes in quick small bursts. FlashForward, 1st ep after 1st commercial break was the best I've ever seen. I would trade one Blurey a month for someone else's HULU Plus. But as far as Bluereys go, this is a great flick. Dude sayin Rob! is like the screming girl on WOTWs...just wanna choke him!

AWESOME. I like explosions from a distance while inside tunnels, has a LP filter effect. Sure in the beginning the subs are jumping out and it's insane loud, but then all the noise and impact and slam are filtered, just the low sweet pops. WOTWs distant gunfire and explosions as well. HULK (not the incredible) when the 16's shoot missiles underwater. That sort of thing.

Your 1st link...kill it....I was wathing and then noticed how long it was....man that is long.

Now when you listen this movie is the bass cranked all the way or alot?

Just curious because on my Denon AVR1509 I usually listen to movies around the -10db and my mains are +6db and sub +3db. Although I really like the audyssey volume but I have to turn the volume up to +7db to get the same volume as without it.

So just wondering. I remember Bossa saying when his subs were set up for the first time he did a "oh sh!t were is the remote," moment. But his subs were fine he just never heard the bass like that before. That was during WOTW.

I am a bit scared to break anything so I will slowly push my stuff but probably never hit much past/near xmax. But maybe on accident.

So thats why I was wondering about your settings.

I was afraid of that, I purposely did 9:55 cuz YT allows up to 10 min and I wanted to get all of that middle section to show the attention to detail they do even on what would seem to be a non-audio scene.

I watched it in my normal "loud movie night" settings for Blurey DTS (though it said dolby digital on my receiver but the dvd said it was TRUHD...noth the first time a "TRUHD" movie showed up as Dolby Digital) which is -15dB Master, -4dB SW. My loudest/lowest Blureys I watch at that level. When I replayed the scenes for the video I put SW to 0dB. From now on, when I watch it, now that i know it is safe, I will watch it at -15dB Master 0dB SW if I want it loud, if I want it quiet...people sleeping.... -20dB with +5dB SW... I ALWAYS have my subs maxed out.

When i watch HULU I set C to -12dB and SW +12dB no matter what, some showes -8dB master, some shows -25dB master... terrbile terrible. Last nite one episode of Fringe I had at -5dB! Walter's voice was deep and crisp and came from the subs..sounded amazing...other than that only special effets were heard through the subs. But the next episode was LOUD LFE, breaker kept going off.... ended up at -16dB and everyones voices and many unexpected sounds came from the subs. Im getting Fringe on BR ASAP!

If I can recommend, get The Incredible Hulk. By far best ULF I have seen yet excluding HULU TV lol
post #350 of 568
I own Incredible Hulk, 300, Braham Stokers Drac, Bourne Identity Trilogy, Never end story and Happy Feet. I will be buying alot of horror movies soon if I can on BR but alot of the movies I wanted to buy for low content have been taken off the list because of this thread. Which is good.

I had 300 a long time ago befor4e I had a system. Does that have ULF?

yah I saw that Inception link on 8 18 IB thread.

Not sure about the content of 300 but probably not. I love horror movies and alot of kid movies. And when it comes to the others I usually just rent or if its a good movie to watch I will buy it. I will probably buy the Transformer series of movies also.

Inception was good but not sure if I would buy it or not. I really want to see how the Resident evil movie is when it comes to DVD. Inception visually was amazing but I still like Silent hill more, I will be buying that one.

And I also like the fact that the kid movies usually have alot of extras where as Inception had none

Why is it that kid movies have so much? I noticed that years ago with Toy Story before I was even into HT. I loved Resident Evil's ULF but i watched it too many times.
Despicable me had lots. We, family, only got through 2 of the 15 stories I think on there.
Hopefully Pirates of the Carri bean:On stranger tides, Transformers 3 and Thor aren't disappointing in the ULF department.

Thats awesome. Thanks Oklahoma. I am glad I can have a DVD that is pleasing for all and have some low content.

I figured the shark attack would be because it was a muffled background sort of sound. Like you mentioned before Krypto. But the bass was definitely shaking with just my THT. I forgot about the rocket.
