IIRC, I had seen it when graphing the theatrical cut on dvd with speclab.

Okkei, you are right, there is some 1-10hz energy, but like you can see it's not very strong in signal. Theatrical cut may be stronger.

Funny thing about that scene. Spielberg wanted the rings to be exactly a circle. They tried several ways to get this to happen, ie. banging the dash, using a sub, etc. But it all came down to...... He had the production team drill a hole under the truck-through the dash-up to the bottom of the cup. He then had a guitar string attached to the bottom of the cup and had someone "strum" the string to get the 'perfect' rings.

Every time I heard that part on the bonus features I wondered about the rings in the giant foot print

Would like to know what type of surface you plan to use as the "cone area".

I want to ask again, to a less inclined guru, can you forwarn me what I need to look for? I don't want to grab the wrong versions, wrong formats, or anything else. Can I get a quick dummed down definition of things I'll need to look and watch for?

The plan is to use that foil backed insulation foam board from Home Depot. I figure I will need to laminate it or possible put something on the back to stiffen it up some. I may consider using two layers because it also needs to provide thermal insulation from the attic.

Just yesterday I came across this... http://www.accordionboot.com/ It's a rubber accordion boot material that may work for the surround edge. I'm going to order a sample and check it out anyway.

As for drivers I'm now focusing on the Tang Band W6-1936S. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=264-907 It has an aluminum flat cone that should work well for mounting the coupler to connect it to the panel. It has 7.4 mm peak excursion which with the surface area I plan to have should be more than adequate.

Hopefully I will be able to get started on it sometime after the first of the year. Right now I'm in Korea, was supposed to go to Shanghai next but now it looks like I'm going to Taiwan instead. I'll be lucky to be home by Christmas. I'll probably put together a prototype of the panel with the drivers and get one functioning in the garage first just to verify everything works as expected. Once that starts I'll start a thread.

Second, IDK about you guys, but every single movie is different on my system, and, I am ALWAYS redlining... Every time I change movies I have to re-set the sub level. WOTWs is obviousely the lowest setting. I usually have to fast forward to a couple loud parts, start low, reply louder, replay louder, oh oop... back off a notch...start movie. Then still a "whoops" can happen.

Did you bottom out your 21" subs?

Did you bring down your twin towers? What happened to all those IB 18's you were running?

I had 6 18's, 4 for the van and 2 for the HT. I am replacing the 18's in the towers with larger subs. I have been waiting 2 years for the IB3 22 but I may go with Maelstrom-X 21's or Incriminator Audio modified Death Penalty 21's. I'm waiting to hear back on any of those three.

The Haunting and The Frighteners not yet on blu-ray, so forget them. Windtalkers is on blu-ray but it's theatrical cut and i'm not sure is the sound mix same as in dir cut.

some new titles for your list.

Daredevil, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Planet terror(elevator scene with QT strong 4hz), Mission impossible 3, Rambo extended cut, Superman returns, Inception(some subsonic stuff here and there), Knoving(not much under 20hz, but worthy try anyway because it's really loud mix), X-men origins: Wolwerine, Sunshine(tons of subsonic stuff), 28 weeks later(city firebombing scene have some pretty crazy stuff), Transporter 2(end fight in airplane have subsonics), Silent Hill(lots of 20hz), Star wars: the clone wars(lotsa subsonics here too), 10000 BC(mammoth hunt strong bass to 10hz, bad movie though), Avp 2(lots of 10-20hz bass, nuke especially), Day after tomorrorw(helicopters freezing in air, very deep), Alexander(elephants stomps to 10hz in battle scenes), Live free or die hard(city powerdown scene have 10-20hz bass), Batman begins(scarecrows voice), Open range(deep gunshots and thunder scenes), 30 days of night, The Fountain, Matrix revolution, Blade 2, Ghost in the shell:innocence(check masterlist :O), Hancock, The Invasion, Letter from ivo jima, The Shooter(Napalm explosion).

Enjoy.

You commented on having to adjust your system for each movie. I used to have to do that, and I don't know exactly what changed, but it's rarely necessary anymore. Boy, that was a pain in the azz.

The most memorable scene in my room lately has been "The Last Airbender" opening scene where that thing comes out of the ice. The walls were pulsating, my wife was scared, and my mains quit running! Thought I blew something up! Ran to the equipment rack (in another room) and saw that it shook my banana plugs right out of the back of my amp!

From comments about it and watching the trailer I wasn't going to get it. You just changed my mind.

Yup, watched it last nite, Wow is all I can say. It is a real good movie also. In the beginning there's some places where the bass seems a little mismatched, as the movie continues it really comes together.

The last 45 minutes rocks. Watch out single driver HT subs, this one could make any single bass driver fart, and quick.

I went into this thread thinking there'd only be a handful of suggestions so i figured I'd get them all, but now that theres so many and so many of them don't look like something I'd care to watch Im picking out what looks at least decent.

The Last Air bender was an awful movie that would only be suitable for my 10 year old....if it were to for the 2 scenes that are demo worthy when it comes to LFE. That first scene with the sphere emerging from the ice and the second to last scene with the water wall. I am actually glad I purchased the movie on blu-ray because of those two scenes. I would be interested to hear how well some mid range commercial subs up to $500 do on those two scenes because those are what my diy directly compete with in terms of price.

One more movie I want to mention is Serenity (blu-ray) great LFE throughout the whole movie. In my opinion it's a great under rated movie. Scene 2 re-entry into the atmosphere is unreal, like your strapped to the afterburners.
Serenity is great for LFE - I keep forgetting about that one somehow.
Sorry I figured I would ask as I am going to buy most of these movies for the low content. But does Event horizon have any low content?

It is a bit old but I figured I would ask. I wish they would redue alot of the older movies soundtracks like Event Horizon , Shining and others. It seems the Shining would be my favorite to add some low content but that is just wishfuk thinking.
Event horizon do have some LFE and what i remember it was pretty strong in places, though no idea what freqs there is, not seen the movie in years and i think shining did have some bass too but not in demo level.
Sorry one more..... what about Butterfly effect. Seems to me they could be some intense bass scenes but I dont know for sure. Plus I have only had my THT for some months now so alot of movies I remember have not had a play on the THT.(Not that the THT is playing single digits or anything.)

But soon I will be starting my other sub build to play the 5hz content.

Oh and I believe the movie "9," had some good low content.
9 has extensive low end... definitely worth a try. I only rented it once back when I had the LLT. I should buy it and run it through the tapped horn.
