EDIT: There is audio settings (duh) but i mean beyond TV Speakers ON or off...there isn't any way to force to external speakers{or change audio to PCM, or anything else! . They claim its plug and play via optical out. However when i turn the input to optical on the Vizio soundbar it flashes an error code which both companies seem to be pointing the blame. If this is true it means the highly rated 42LD450 isn't compatible with ANY soundbar and i would NEED a sound system.
So, here is what I found from the LG Owners Manual, Page 70...
And it is quoted:
This function allows you to select your preferred Digital Audio Output.
The TV can only output DOLBY Digital if a channel is broadcast with Dolby Digital audio.
When Dolby digital is available, selecting Auto in the Digital Audio Out menu will set SPDIF(Sony Philips Digital InterFace) output to Dolby Digital.
If Auto is selected in the digital audio out menu when dolby digital is not available, SPDIF output will be PCM(Pulsecode modulation).
Even if both Auto and Audio language have been set in a channel which broadcast Dolby Digital Audio, only Dolby Digital will be played.
If the sample rate converter on this chip does not support 44.1 to 48kHz, this content should always produce
stereo PCM at digital output.
Therefore, If our TV's have no option to choose (no available menu) how the audio will be broadcast out of the TV through the SPDIF/Optical port, and the station or channel we are watching is broadcasting in Dolby Digital (the little info box that momentarily appears when the channel is changed, will tell how it is being broadcast) then we are OUT OF LUCK -

No Vizio Soundbar!!!
So what I just did moments ago, to check this, I scrolled thru my channels (by the way I am now OTA & so happy) and I found a station that was broadcasting in SD Mono &
VOILLA! The soundbar worked. But I have the majority of my channels broadcast in D.D. & unfortunately, all of the faves are broadcast in DD as well! So...
Now I need a work around. I am, for the time being going to keep this tv, & I really don't want to take this soundbar back to Walmart.
Any thoughts. I guess I could use the RCA connectors. But my tv only has the one out - the Optical.
