and just for the record, this is a GREAT 3D BD player LOADED with Internet Apps and Web content, not to mention great BD playback quality and super fast speeds when loading. Probably the best 3D player on the market when it comes to bang for the buck.

Check their ad before you go. I got mine there, but it was an open box. I've seen it at a lot of dealers for under $140, so they might price match. Ask them.

Why not connect the 570 to internet and let it do the upgrade directly off the net? Am I missing something here? But yeah, both the 470 and 570 are fantastic 3D players. All they lack is a second HDMI out for audio.

I (well, JVC) bought several 3D Blu-ray players to check compatibility with the new projectors, and I have to say the Sony 470 is in a different class to the others. That's definitely the one I would buy with my own money.

Is the Vudu app available on the Sony 570?

Petri, that is like pulling teeth with the built in WiFi or even the dongle with the cheaper 470. At the time I did not try to update firmware via LAN cable because I was no where near one and didn't feel like moving the BD player to the basement just to upgrade, so what I did was do the update for both using a USB thumbdrive and it worked like a charm, and also gave me Hulu+ and Amazon on demand as part of the FW upgrade, in addition to DLNA compatibility which was not there straight out of the box.

No, but there are more than two dozen internet video apps that will make you say: "Vudu Who?"

I agree Gary, but for about $30 more you can get the 570 with the built it and more stable WiFi option versus the $70 Sony Dongle. If you're BD player will sit right next to the router or if you have your network hardwired throughout the house then the 470 is the one to get, otherwise, spend the extra $30-$40 on the 570 for the convenience factor alone.

Can any of those apps stream the latest movies (no 28 day wait like Netflix) in 1080p/24 with 5.1 DD like Vudu does?

It must be a Sony US wide sale on the S570 because Bestbuy's website is listing it for $139 as well, so I printed the page and will get my price match guarantee of almost $50 tomorrow (since I bought two at the same time) while I am picking up Legends of the Guaridans 3d

By the way Jason, this is the BD player I was refering to this morning when CT_Webbe recommended the Oppo93 which I also own and use for the theater and RS40. If you don't want to spend $500 on a new 3D BD player, or can't even aquire an Oppo93 at the moment even if you wanted to spend the money, then the Sony BSP-S570 is a WONDERFUL alternative, with the exception of the non-backlit remote, which is Pretty lame!

I believe both the Sony movie service and Amazon on demand can in both HD and SD for the usual $5-$7 premium.

Ah, so that's what I was missing. Yeah, I avoid WiFi like the plague and opt for wired GBit ethernet whenever possible.

I've got my BB connection about 6 inches from where the 470 sits in my office so I thought it was a bit cheeky to get a 570

My 470 works great, just as long as it plays blu rays and 3D movies, I have no complaints. Can't wait to finally put it to use when my emitter gets here tomorrow. My RS40 just isn't complete until I watch my first 3D movie on it

I was pretty happy with the Sony for 3D and made a decision not to watch the Acer for a month so that I would have new movies to watch on the Sony when it came. A week later I decided to plug the Acer in again and WOW. The Acer blew my mind again at how much better it was then the Sony. I had that sinking feeling in my stomach like Oh **** I just spent 15x the price on something that is inferior to a little Acer.

Zombie, you asked what scenes showed ghosting in relation to the Sony vs. Acer. I realized pretty much every scene had some form of ghosting or another. Some minor, and some obvious. Anyway I was gonna sell the Sony and just stick to my Acer/epson combo because I was going to move in march and needed to save money, but now Im not moving until the fall so I got's some money I can still spend. I'm getting the RS50 now, and hopefully Im not gonna get slapped in the face twice! The dealer was like naw theirs no ghosting on the Sony, and I pointed out scene after scene to him and he was like "I'll call you latter today when I get info on the JVC". This is my last attempt at going 3D with a non DLP projector. If anything I will just use the JVC for 2D and continue my dual PJ setup.

When I told my dealer that my 500 Acer is better then the Sony, he gave me a look like he wanted to hurt me. I told him if he wants, next time I come over I'll bring it and show him how 3D is supposed to look. Maybe he can become an Acer dealer

I'll bet you're popular with the Sony guys. It looks like the honeymoon is truly over. My hats off to you for telling it the way it is - it takes a lot of guts to admit when you're wrong. The Acer floors me every time I turn it on. I've spent a ton on this stuff over the years and have never before found this kind of value for the money! The Acer is the best consumer purchase I've ever made.

As amazing as it was last night, I have no doubt that a highpower would take the whole 3d experience to the NEXT level.

Hey Toe, what is your throw and seating distance? I'm looking at getting the same size screen (when AVS finally comes through).

Projector throw is 17.5' and my seating distance is ~12.5' When are you looking to get your screen? If I try out the highpower, I am only going to keep one screen and sell the other so I will have either a ST130 or 2.8 HP for sale 9' wide 2.35 (again, assuming I try out the HP which I am leaning toward at the moment).

I'm having network problems - can't get my Samsung 3D TV or the Sony 570 to play nice with my modem/router. I also have other issues to sort through. Connecting should be plug and play for most people.

I had all sorts of problems trying to get the Samsung to connect over the Internet using a wireless USB dongle. Wound up giving up and going with a wired connection which was a real pain to run but worth it in the end. Once I had a hard wired connection it talked through my switches and routers no problem. Let me know if you need any help.

My seating will be about 9-10' and throw less than yours also, so hopefully brightness will not be a problem and will not need a HP screen, even in my less than ideal room. I hoped to be in the early shipment with AVS so I could throw something on the wall to make sure of the size needed, but looks like I am further down the list. I have not even taken my Oppo 93 out of its box yet!

Man, reading about these close seating distances makes me regret the near 14ft seating distance I have from the first row to the screen. I wish I was a lot more conservative and forward thinking about the 3D effect, being that much better a few feet closer. I can move my front row maybe a hald foot without sacrificing aesthetics and overall clean look for the 2nd row riser. But I certainly cannot go up to 10 ft or even 12ft. I could buy one of those cheap gaming recliner or a beanbag or something in between for my own enjoyment of upclose 3D, but I would not experience the bass shakers in my theater seats.
